Title: Spotlight to local quality posters
Post by: Turbartuluk on November 03, 2023, 08:11:41 PM
Inspired by some merit sources i tried to figure out, how to highlight the most helpful posts and users without creating a bunch of rules but in an simple and organic way.

I came out with an evaluation to concentrate on those posts and users which were found to be helpful and are likely to serve as a role model. Maybe this leaderboard can inspire others on how to create interesting content and push forward the community at all.

If you are interested in evaluations for some other local boards you may have a look to the international Thread Homage the Bitcointalk Heroes - monthly spotlight to local quality posters (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5467743.msg62886877#msg62886877), it will be updated soon.

The evaluation was made by using @DdmrDdmr Merit Dashboard (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4428616.0) and @TryNinja Ninjastic.space (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5273824.0).

First of all here is the Leaderboard of all users who have made at least 5 posts and received at least 5 merits in the nigerian local board during Oktober. The list was then ranked by Merit/Post-ratio. To everybody on the list with a high ratio, I owe you respect and appreciation.

This is stunning, man! You have my support. I saw your post on  my other thread. The merit/post ratio helps to identify spam and merit backscratchers on the Local Board. It is now up to other Nigerians to determine whether they want it or not. We vote on everything here, so you might add a poll to your discussion. For a long time, I considered adding the Merit/post ratio to my statistics thread, but I didn't want it to get any larger than it already is.

This is a great stats you have putting together and I am very impressed by the data and information you shared about the local board. I am totally in support of this thread and I will want it to continue like this for every month so that it can encourage others in contributing quality posts to the local board. Well tried OP, you have just made everything simplified and will be a great tool (thread) to follow up in the local board every month.

Thank you both for your feedback.

Sorry, but i don't get what you mean by this?! What shall be the question for the poll?

To my mind everybody is already voting with his/her merits. On the path i recommand there are only 2 steps to go:
1. Give merit to quality posts and those which are helpful for newbies or an enrichment for the community.
-> One can then make some statistics like mine to easily see through the wall of spam
2. Look if the most merited posts are somewhat bitcoinrelated or not
-> Off-Topic Diskussions like Politics, tribalism, general Business, real estate, etc. are fine but i guess it is a good idea to keep the the merits for those topics Bitcointalk was made for  ;)

I guess that is the choice you can vote for.

You have a fantastic idea, but this is a foreign local board, and our regulations are different here.If you have to collect our users data, you must first obtain permission from the community.  A simple Yes or No poll will provide you with the information you require. As I stated in my first post, you have my support, but I cannot speak for the LB on my own.

In terms of merit, we presently do not have a merit source assigned to the LB.

Sorry, but I still don't understand. So the question of the poll should be if this evaluation should be continued or not?
And how do i create a poll?

Btw: I don't collect any user data, the data is already public. I guess with registration to bitcointalk every user allready agreed to the terms of use and this kind of "transparency".  ???

I know but i guess @hugeblack can be seen as a kind of merit source for the LB. Anyway that does not really matter because the number of merit shared in the LB is high enough.  ;)

You can locate "add poll" at the bottom left of your Topic.

If the community was against it, they would be here demanding your head, but none of them have done so, indicating that they are not. You'll be OK.

Not limited to the LB alone, Hugeblack thread is for all LB lacking support but he's help is isn't enough, he doesn't understand Pidgin English and find it difficult to merit one. We need a merit source who understands the culture and the language

Don't get me wrong. Those staticstics are no substitute for a local merit source or a useful structure of child boards. I just could be a temporary solution for the meanwhile and some kind of help to get any structure into it, because sometimes things can last a little longer. ::)

No, I understand, but if you're going to do anything, we'd like it to be permanent and constant; if you're not sure you're willing to work with us long term, there's no point in starting in the first place. Also, how do you intend to run it? On a monthly or weekly basis.

At the current state of automation, it takes me about ~1 hour so i guess weekly basis would not be realistic. Maybe i can save some time in the future with further devellopments.

But to be honest it also depends on participation here. I will at least provide statistics for some months from now to get it running and then we will see if it will be accepted by the community or not. ;)
