Title: Imagine African countries using Bitcoin to pay salaries,
Post by: KupaCrypto on January 07, 2024, 10:01:25 PM
I don't know if the government of any African country have adopted the system of paying salaries in Bitcoin, but I know here is Nigeria they haven't, it's possible to pay employees using Bitcoin or other crypto currencies ,
With the services of some crypto currency payroll agencies  like Bitwage, papaya global, ontop,  which will make it possible for the government to pay their workers in Bitcoin or other crypto currencies and can be sent  into their digital wallet,
Since it has to do with the government another agency can be set up in the country in respect to paying salaries as Bitcoin which will somehow help in the growth of the economy of the country.

I don't know if the government of any African country have adopted the system of paying salaries in Bitcoin,

No African country has announced the full adoption of Bitcoin as legal tender aside the central Africa republic who is the only country in Africa that have adopted Bitcoin as an alternative and even at that,  they have not made it known whether or not Bitcoin is used as an official currency for workers salaries,  although we already are aware of the sceptical nature of many governments towards bitcoin and many of the countries have been on attacking mode and the majority give a red light to Bitcoin adoption.

So for that,  we are still far from achieving that state where an African country will adopt Bitcoin to pay salary,  and not even El Salvador who was the first country to adopt Bitcoin has not implemented that law in its system yet.

Help me understand how paying workers in Bitcoin will help fasten the growth of the economy.

Receiving Bitcoin as a salary can automatically implement a financial inclusion to the receivers.  It is the state where the person can do transactions internationally and can participate in economic online activities whether they are banked or unbanked.  This will help people to have access to international commodities and possibly trade or create online international/local markets with the use of Bitcoin.  This will serve as a new means of income to these people.  With growing livelihood, it will more likely contribute to the growth of the economy of a country.

Of course, there should be programs and activities to inform these BTC receivers on how they can maximize the potential benefits of using Bitcoin.  If there is no information desimination and just paying them with BTC, I think it won't have any help to the economy.

Nothing is impossible especially now that the most respected investment companies have an interest in Bitcoin. With that being said, the citizens of Nigeria appear to be enthusiasts of cryptocurrency but the stance of their government appears not to support BTC which shows that what you said can't happen for now in the country.
Central Africa Republic is the only African country with the possibility of using BTC to pay salaries.
I believe other African countries governments will never like the idea of paying their worker's salaries in BTC which will limit their fiat currency usage.

While we're on the Bitcoin community and optimistic with this approach, we like to receive salaries in Bitcoin and that won't even be a problem to us even with the volatility. But with these government agencies, you just can't hope that they'll have the idea of what we're optimistic with and then apply it to them as soon as possible. It doesn't go like that as these sectors in the government can't settle for the volatility that Bitcoin has and their employees also won't agree to that part because they want to receive what they've worked for as equivalent to it. While some may agree that it's totally fine as they are also going to invest on Bitcoin why not accept it as payment so it goes directly. Again, it's not for everyone to agree with.

There’s one hurdle to cross first and that’s electing a government that is bitcoin friendly. Friendly enough to make it a legal tender in the country and go a step further to want to create an option for its civil service employees to receive their pay in bitcoin.
It would take a lot more than wishful thinking to actually make this a realization as a lot of thought process and work needs to be taken but I don’t think a new government agency is really required. In my opinion, The existing treasury department or the finance ministry in the country  could suffice and perhaps in coordination with some other relevant government agency, handle such an assignment when tasked.

Actually, economical growth cannot be met exclusively with the adoption with Bitcoin, in my opinion. In order to improve the living standards and the economy of a whole country the administration of such country needs to apply reforms and important investments in infrastructure. Adopting Bitcoin at most can help to open the market to speculation of the price, increase the reception of money from abroad and in the case of un-trusted governments/banking it can help for people to hold their assets in a way which are not easy to seize by crooks.

Paying with Bitcoin to the African people could help a bit to encourage people to save, because of the expectations of them for the price to increase, but that is very situational, most western economies and within capitalism, consumption of goods and services is a central role to keep a good economy.

If we talk about improving a country, then it would be more straight forwards to get people to work instead speculating with Bitcoin, but that is just my personal opinion.

Paying salaries in Bitcoin, in a country where there is a high poverty rate and where the population needs to spend 90% of the salary directly, is useless. Most of the population cannot keep Bitcoin as an investment and therefore will not be able to benefit from price fluctuations, and the high Bitcoin fees may wipe out most of the salary.

With a fee of 47 sat/vB and assuming that the person will make an average of 3 transactions and that the transaction is 1 input 2 output, he will need about 21 US Dollars per month, while the average salary in Nigeria is around 30,000 NGN (69.17 US Dollars) according to https://www.timedoctor.com/blog/average-salary -in-nigeria/

We are talking approximately 1/3 of the salary in transaction fees  :) :) :)

If there are social security or pension funds where workers' salaries are deducted and kept, then Bitcoin can contribute to mitigating the effects of inflation.

That's just what I was thinking. Receiving the salary in Bitcoin, so that people will immediately exchange it into local currency in order to spend it does not make much sense. And more so after the era of high fees we've had recently, where until recently you could pay $20 if you wanted to have some guarantee that your transaction would be confirmed. What the OP says as a dream is fine, but it's not going to happen, and certainly not in the near future.

You could do your research on that. As far as I know, Central Africa Republic is the only African country that has made Bitcoin a legal tender. The rest of Africa are neutral about Bitcoin.
You forget they already stop to accept Bitcoin as legal tender since Q1 on the last year. (https://www.centralbanking.com/central-banks/currency/digital-currencies/7956294/car-to-drop-crypto-as-legal-tender)

Paying salary in Bitcoin will have no positive financial effect on these workers. Workers in most of these developing nations depend solely on their salaries to survive. Which entails that they will immediately change Bitcoin to fiat to take care of some expenses. It will only benefit those that have other sources of income, which could now allow them to hodl the Bitcoin until the price increases. It would have been a good idea if the transaction fees were low but how can the government cover the cost of paying these high transaction fees?

Every government will always promote its local currency, I doubt if any politicians will decide to ditch its local currency for Bitcoin for salary payment. For me, these workers should be taught how to make extra money from different sources and some can be introduced to Bitcoin as an investment platform.

I know some African countries has adopted the use of M-Pesa (A centralized digital payment system, that has been developed before Bitcoin existed)

I think governments like something that they can control and centralized services like M-Pesa will be their first choice. (They cannot monitor or manipulate Bitcoin transactions or block Bitcoin transactions)

This is what I don't understand with people saying that workers being paid in bitcoin or crypto will further their economy. While owning bitcoin isn't really taxed in Africa (yet), and the citizens will get their pay 100%, what difference would it make if they will be needing to spend all of those to meet their needs anyway? There's no real saving there, nor will they ever benefit from the fluctuations in price for bitcoin. If their wages aren't increased, even if they get paid in bitcoin, they'd still remain to not get any substantial savings or investments on their end.

Basketball stars[1], famous people, professionals, and even decision makers who accepted payment in Bitcoin agreed to allocate a percentage in dollars and the rest in Bitcoin. even if the government decided to pay in Bitcoin and there was knowledge of its use, most of us would prefer to transfer 60% to Bitcoin and the rest to pay in local currency, and even signature campaigns. Here, those who pay with Bitcoin sometimes try to pay with altcoins, so it is a successful idea if it starts with a certain percentage, for example 10%, and the richer, the higher the percentage.

Before that will be possible we should first think of adaptation and legalizations when it's being legalized by the African countries be it Nigeria then we can think of legal tender. Even though some individuals are using it for something special within their business it's still not legal why because they government has never announced it any day despite lifting the bans, still i have never came across any news of African countries using that to pay salaries to workers except individual businessmen/women can implement that secretly without the government having any idea related to their action.

For several countries in Africa that still have the problem of hyper inflation, perhaps a bitcoin payment solution for employees could indeed be a temporary solution. But for several other developed countries, this may depend on whether the employees there are familiar with Bitcoin or not.

But I feel that African countries may now be more friendly towards crypto and bitcoin. So it is not surprising that crypto adoption there is increasing rapidly. Especially in Nigeria. I like the enthusiasm of the people of that country. However, for now I am putting more emphasis on increasing the literacy of Bitcoin and crypto knowledge there by the government. So that when Bitcoin adoption takes effect, everything will be ready for this.

Actually even in parts of the world that is not Africa, i have not heard of salaries being paid by bitcoin unless of course it is a job technically related to bitcoin or cryptocurrency like if it was a task you found here it is possible that they may pay you in bitcoin or other altcoins

But if you are talking about everyday jobs i do not think it is possible for normal folks would have a hard time using bitcoin for their everyday lives assuming that their salary is the one letting them live day by day

Don't overlook something that has not properly studied yet and we know bitcoin is very volatile currency which is hard to adopt by some people in the world and if happen that the employees will receive bitcoin as their salary then the market dump for sure a lot of people will get crazy for that scene so I think this need a lot of study and also need to conduct a good introduction so that people will not be surprised on any turn of events that might possibly happen in the market.

For now its good for bitcoin to exist like this and let the people discover on how to use this since by the time people is well prepared for adopting this currency for sure they would provably know how to deal with bitcoin if they receive it on their wallets as part of their monthly wages.

But for now this is far to happen to many issue at government side that need to address since they don't see bitcoin as good alternative to their currency.

Adopting a salary payment system in Bitcoin will depend on each country's regulators. They need to check and see everything before they start adopting it. If Bitcoin is not used as a means of payment, it will be difficult for workers to use their Bitcoin for shopping.

But if the government has fully legalized the use of Bitcoin as an alternative payment, there is no problem. However, the current increase in transaction costs makes regulators think long before they decide.

Maybe another way is to continue paying salaries using the usual method. Meanwhile, regulators can allow people to use Bitcoin or crypto to invest in Bitcoin fully. This will give people the opportunity to start investing in Bitcoin so that it can help improve economic conditions for the better.

I know there are companies that pay in Bitcoin, but I know no government of an African country pay its workers in Bitcoin, maybe because Bitcoin is not a legal tender yet , but it can gain popularity to the extent of being used as a legal tender and then government workers of that country can earn in Bitcoin, Which will be good for the good of the country and workers, but the instability of Bitcoin can cause a decline in countries adopting it as it's legal tender, because the Values may increase or decrease anytime which will affect the value of the Bitcoin in a  normal currency value.

You must be a big dreamer, my friend. First, Bitcoin is not a legal tender in the country, the central government must approve it after it has been successfully passed by the national assembly before such happens. Secondly, it will be an option for staff and not by force simply because they must agree with some terms if they would be paid in Bitcoin as Bitcoin is a volatile asset, which means that most of the staff will not receive the amount they were supposed to be paid. At times, it will be higher and at times it could be lower and devastating, so it will be impossible for the government to force it on people.

The workers also have the right to take the government to court if they are adamant about it as they are entitled to have to get paid for what they worked for. Thirdly, this is meaningless to the economy as it is, what if the workers agree to it and the citizens of Nigeria disagree? I mean the market sellers and all the people where the workers will spend it disallowed it? It will only amount to waste as the workers will quickly be changing it to fiat so that they can be able to spend it. Lastly, have you thought about the higher fees that the government and the staff will part ways with in the name of Bitcoin? In Nigeria, a few dollars is a big money due to the economy and bad FX. Imagine this time when the average fee to send Bitcoin is about $5, which is huge in the country, this can't be a good idea that could replace the almost no-fee transactions they receive their money with and are used to. There are many other factors to discourage this view of yours but let's leave it to this for now.

Anyway, while thinking of paying salaries in Bitcoin we should also realize that Bitcoin transactions right now don't give us joy. Fees are unbelievably high and discouraging, to say the least; frustrating. Again, whatever countries that make Bitcoin a means of payment should make it optional. We can't say because we're Bitcoin enthusiasts that everyone should be forced into accepting it as legal tender. There should be moderation and consideration for others who aren't in tune with it.

My country just lifted ban on cryptos and their related activities a few weeks ago. From precedence, I don't think that government of my country can come around to using it as a payment option. That's my feeling. I may be wrong.

It is a very bad choice for anyone to receive their salaries in Bitcoin. It is because Bitcoin is the worst payment method. It is slow and expensive. Bitcoin is good as an investment which has out performed nearly all asset classes. At the same time it is not a good payment method.

I don't think any countries have yet adopted Bitcoin to this level where the companies are encouraged to pay the salaries in Bitcoin. El Salvador is maybe an exception.

The government paying salaries to whom? The government officials or the employees in the private sector?
1.The government can't pay salaries to the employees in the private sector, because they are in the private sector. ;D It's obvious.
2.No government in the world would agree to pay the salaries of the government officials by using BTC. I don't count some small counties, which have weird presidents like El Salvador.
3.If the business owners(in Africa or anywhere else) want to pay salaries in BTC, almost no government in the world can stop them.
The problem is that the employees have to convert the BTC to fiat, in order to pay for food, bills and taxes. This makes the whole process a little bit pointless.

Why are you imagining the impossible in the first place? African countries are yet to accept bitcoin as a recognized legal tender and you are already imagining using bitcoin to pay salary? Aren't we supposed to be thinking of ways to get it approved first before any other things? The only thing I see using bitcoin to pay salary is problem upon problem. I hope you know the process undergone before salaries are being paid to civil and public servants. Now, imagine using bitcoin as a payment method with the fluctuating nature and what will happen before this process is being completed.

Despite that almost all the workers are learned people, majority are still not digitally exposed and by paying them with bitcoin, government is putting their hard earn money on risk of theft. Wallet security is very necessary in order to use Bitcoin safely. We have unlearned staffs such as the guard, messengers and cleaners. Unless government intends to suffer this category of people, this is not a good idea. Even if they (government) eventually approved bitcoin as a legal tender, I don't see using it to pay salary as wise opinion.

No African country would like to support a payment gateway like Bitcoin which they don't have control over in view of that it is not possible for any government to adopt Bitcoin for payment of salary, majority of the countries are not crypto friendly Nigeria recently lifted the ban on cryptos, even if the government eventually adopt Bitcoin for salary payment how many employees are crypto enthusiast? I believe they are just few compared to other users who are investors and traders, however with crypto enlightenment and growing adoption with time it adoption for payment would come to reality.

We should not expect this to happen any time soon, while the adoption of bitcoin all throughout the world is growing, most of those that are adopting bitcoin are doing so because of the profits they can get and not to use it as a currency, so I doubt that even if governments changed their posture all of a sudden and allowed this to happen that there could be a lot of people willing to do this, when they can use their fiat currencies instead and pay less fees for each transaction.

Well yeah it doesn't matter if your country does not support Bitcoin as a legal tender but as long as it is not banned there then your're good. Making Bitcoin as payroll depends on your government but I doubt that will happen because of Bitcoins volatility and it's tricky fees. It will only help the growth of your country's economy if local businesses or local wallets will offer goods services in exchange of Bitcoin.

This seems like a horse before the cart scenario. If the demand was there, then it would already be gaining traction but the reality is people in these countries are often on subsistence level wages. The money that they earn is very quickly turned around and spent on just the basics that are needed to survive, they don't have any time for extra transaction fees or a slower pace or transferring it into another currency, when they can simply save that money by getting paid directly in the local currency. Nor do the employers particularly want to jump through this extra hoop when there are already established payment systems that would drop their prices even, if crypto actually posed a financial threat to their profits.

Theorically it will be the best choice for economy in Africa , with releasing their currency for paying salaries and give bitcoin or usdt in place of it will be helpful for the citizens and for economy , but the Big problem African country still colonized by european country indirectly , they won't be happy when africans country use bitcoin , Euro domination would be in danger and will dicrease ..

I'll start with the simplest question. If you answer it, we will continue to simulate the situation to understand how feasible this is.
The question is extremely simple. Let’s say that in your country they started paying people wages in bitcoins. Accepted, ok. Question: how will the entire population of your country pay with bitcoins - for bread, water, travel on public transport, pay for kindergarten or school for children, buy tea, coffee, buy medicine at the pharmacy...? So - your idea of how this will be implemented?

im more inclined when it comes to people getting their salary in cryptocurrency but in form of stablecoin, because its not easily get swayed by volatility in which might be a real burden for people even more so with small enough salary, if they want to invest in bitcoin they can easily swap because its already in form of USDT and also for daily life it will be a lot more convenient since this coin available across many blockchain you can literally choose which blockchain you wanna use depends on the transaction fee.
with the fee of bitcoin im worried that some people are hesitant to use it because the fee alone might eat good amount of their salary even obvious with presence of ordinal inscription that quite literally boost the fee to be high right now.
i can be wrong though but when it comes to salary, volatility, fluctuation, and also fee cost should also be judged thoroughly.

How will paying salaries using Bitcoin or Crypto help the community's economy? because people will only receive the same amount if they use other currencies and they can even experience losses when the price of Bitcoin drops just a few percent in one day, and I doubt that the government or companies will want to use Bitcoin to pay their employees not because of the euro problem but because it will making them incur greater costs to implement it at least if we look at the current Bitcoin transaction costs, and also by using Bitcoin the banking sector will not be involved in it while companies will always need banking for their company's funding when needed and reducing the role of banks will be displeasing to the parties banking which can interfere with how banks make decisions when entrepreneurs want to take out credit.

As far as I know, Central Africa Republic is the only African country that has made Bitcoin a legal tender.
Bitcoin is no longer a legal tender in Central African Republic, that law only lasted a couple of months and the country has already rescinded it, reports have it that they backtracked because of how poor the country is and their lack of electricity and other basic amenities, read the news here: https://bitcoinmagazine.com/culture/why-bitcoin-failed-in-car
Theorically it will be the best choice for economy in Africa ,
I don't see how this would help the economy, mind you that they are going to be paying the equivalent of their fiat currency in Bitcoin, that is you will be given the worth of whatever you are earning in Bitcoin, now you have to withdraw it and in doing so you have to pay transaction fees, Bitcoin is also volatile and a dump can take a good chunk out of people's salaries. This plan cannot work, especially in a poor and underdeveloped society.

I am not aware of those crypto payroll agencies you listed there but that was cool. Employers can try using it, if they think it's a hassle to manually send the BTC's to their workers. BTC is decentralized so it has nothing to do with the government, although BTC must be legalized first by the governments in order for the employers to start doing this innovation.

the first thing you should have considered would have been to verify how many African countries have accepted bitcoin as a legal tender and then you look at out popular it his before even considering suggesting that people receive it as their salary.

How many workers in Africa even have a bitcoin account?

The journey to getting bitcoin adopted in the whole of a nation is a long one and would not be all that easy and the starting point of such journey would be first on educating the populace about Bitcoin and it advantage over the fiat currency and then when people have started looking into it, you can them think of using it partiallyvfor transaction purpose and later on you could look at the possibility of it general acceptance.

I think even if the government of a particular country thinks about using Bitcoin to pay salaries, the Instability in the price of crypto currencies will make them change their mind, but another thing is we in Nigeria we keep experiences increase in price of things that really matters to us like food, a bag, Petro, kerosene, gas, transportation, things like that increases In prices by almost 50% person without the government increasing our salaries, so just maybe instability in Bitcoin might not really be a new challenge to us in Nigeria if we start using it, because we have seen worse and still growing.

I don't see this happening in Africa especially Nigeria, even if CBN just lifted the ban recently doesn't mean the government will start paying salaries with bitcoin, seeing the increase of bitcoin adoption in Nigeria still doesn't mean people will like the payment method and the government will not just pay salaries using bitcoin. Just imagine the government starts paying with bitcoin what will happen to those workers that has zero knowledge about bitcoin and when dealing with government jobs it has nothing to do with age sometimes that's why most elderly men still work as government staff so do you think people like this will accept the payment method and talking about the high transactions fees businesses that accepted bitcoin as a means of payment are regretting talk less of government workers, I personality don't like the idea when it comes to the government sector but private business can adopt this method especially if the CEO is a bitcoin enthusiast

Good creativity but that's going to rubbish the economy. Where do you place the indigenous currency of the country? The Naira that is weaken already and you decided the country to use Bitcoin as legal tender? As much as I like Bitcoin, this one will not work for a Nigeria because right now we are facing a heavy transformation due to lot of changes in policies which might take time before the economy settle down.

However, I don't mind if it's legalized or been accepted as a legal tender and it can be voluntary for any one who wish to pay his staffs ad workers in bitcoin and that again should be on the request of the employers if he want fiat for his payment or bitcoin for the payment, it's as simple as that but I think there might be a little problem with the ongoing transaction fees war on the bitcoin network. The fees that are used to pay transaction fees on the bitcoin, if converted to fiat is more than the minimum wage, how do you expect that work? Bitcoin will be very hard to implement my friend, maybe not for now.

doesn't need to be enforced to the whole population its like giving alternative, whether to be pay through fiat or btc is fine, it depends on the individual to choose.
but I do agree that maybe even the government themselves might not agree with the idea, since its more likely gonna be concerned about the volatility but honestly its a great idea, since the price of bitcoin are keep increasing anyway overtime the allocation for pension fund could be allocated to bitcoin investment basically like 401k plan but with cryptocurrency thats gonna be great retirement plan tbh, but thats just my opinion, after all, bitcoin also have its share of volatility that causes it to dump unless we have indefinite time to hold its might expose some problems.

As far as I know Bitcoin is not a legal tender in Nigeria, so if you are working in registered company in Nigeria, your company would need to follow government regulation and using the national currency. But if you are working in small/individual company that hasn't been registered then I guess you can ask your employer, but I don't know how the law works in Nigeria so there might be a problem.

What could be the problem is the fee and transaction delay I think if the network is busy you might get your payment delay or your employer will need to pay more fee. That case won't happened if you paid with cash.

All that being said I do agree that using Bitcoin for salary payment will significantly increase it's awareness.

That's an attractive offer but considering that we're still mostly fiat when it comes to stuff like commodities and services, I think that it's not a good thing that you're only getting paid in bitcoin, maybe if they offer 30% of your salary then that's probably more acceptable but other than that, it's problematic especially if you're paying rent too.

I have seen any form of the government sectors paying salaries with the means of Bitcoin or any related cryptocurrencies. To my best of knowledge, crytop currencies has been on suspension prohibiting any form of crytop transactions alongside in the governments sectors but in lately December 2023 the banned of the crytop currency was lifted meaning that the government sectors and the banks are now authorized to start acceptingbto transact with the crytop currencies. So on this note, as time keeps up most of the government sectors may have their salary earners the opportunity to receive their payments through the crytop currencies so, there is every possibilities of advancement in earning salaries with the Bitcoin crytop currency in the country Nigeria even though it has come through yet but a matter of time.

In Nigeria here the ban on Bitcoin have just been lifted, there people can take advantage of it, not just people, but governments too, most of these government officials actually have Bitcoins, most of them might be in to crypto currencies because it is very easy to purchase crypto currencies when you are a government official in this country, you will have the capital to purchase as many as you want,
I know businesses that pay through Bitcoin, no jokes, but they are private companies owned by individuals outside the country, making Bitcoin a legal tender will be the stepping stone of this , tho most self centred officials in the government won't buy the idea, but generally it I think it will boost the economy of Africa.

This innovative idea could transform financial institutions! Bitcoin in remuneration structures through Bitwage or Papaya Global is feasible. Think about it: Bitcoin's blockchain technology provides security and transparency. This might greatly reduce fraud and fund mismanagement, right? Think about cross-border payment simplicity. Paying salaries in Bitcoin could reduce banking fees and exchange rate concerns in countries with a large diaspora or overseas workforce.

Creating a government organization to manage Bitcoin salaries could boost the economy. The goal is to put the country at the forefront of financial technology, not simply digital currency. This might spur global tech investments and local fintech breakthroughs. It may also promote financial literacy and tech expertise, encouraging innovation. This prospect excites me! The adjustment may be difficult, but the long-term rewards for the economy and individuals may be revolutionary.

Many African countries are basically "de-facto dictatorship", they may not be as dictators as you might see from China, but more like Russia. In theory, Russia is a democratic nation, they do have elections, have you ever seen Putin lose an election? That dude is a dictator that makes sure that he wins, there is no scenario where he loses, but you still go out to vote right?

So, that is kind of the situation at many African nations as well, maybe not in the highly developed ones like Egypt or Nigeria or South Africa, but there are plenty that are doing terrible. This is why you should be considering the possibility that you may end up with some more strict approach to it, you might be allowed, but you would be watched for sure.

Even if governments pay in their own fiat, what is stopping the people who receive it from converting it into bitcoin and using it?

Honest;y, we are not yet there to see such things of government giving the employees to receive their salary in bitcoin and I hope that day will eventually come. But let's focus on what is at the table now and I get that you are implying that their fiat are highly unstable and undergo inflation more than they supposed to be, but the choice is in our hands.

BTC is in high demand right now.  Big institutions are interested in BTC transactions.  World wide transactions are possible through it.  But I don't think African governments will legalize it. They will never do it, i.e. never introduce BTC as a payment. Because it will damage their traditional currency.  They never want their fiat currency to suffer.  So it is also wrong to expect that they will introduce BTC as payment.

Paying salaries in Bitcoin can be risky, considering that it's digital and volatile. If a country has a low percentage of Internet penetration and the population there has a very low level of digital literacy, paying salaries in BTC can be a very unkind thing to do because people can lose access to it, struggle with learning how to use it, lose some of the much-needed funds to volatility and/or fees, etc. Bitcoin can be a choice, but forcing it upon people isn't a good idea. And adoption of Bitcoin makes sense in places where people are already very familiar with laptops, smartphones, daily usage of the Internet, something like mobile banking, etc. Otherwise, it's just too much, all at once, when there are other priorities.

No African country has adopted the system yet, but from the way things are going, if any African country will be adopting the system, then the first country that I am expecting is Nigeria. With the way bitcoin adoption is spreading so fast and the current president who is in power really in support of bitcoin, all the bans that were placed on cryptocurrency by the previous administration have been lifted just within the short period of time that he got to power. Let’s hope to hear more good news about cryptocurrency from him.

African countries will first adopt Bitcoin as a legal tender before they can start to talk of paying their workers salaries in Bitcoin, with the adoption it will be more convenient for them to pay salaries in their local fiat currencies. Central African republic, is the only known African country that has adopted Bitcoin as a legal tender and only them can easily make that kind of decision to pay workers with Bitcoin. I believe that private companies in Africa, can decide to pay their workers with Bitcoin, so far it is not banned in that country, but many workers will prefer to be paid with their local fiat currency, so that they can easily spend it in their country. With government adoption as a legal tender it will be easy to transact Bitcoin in any country.

But government agencies? That's a different story. They operate on a bedrock of stability, risk aversion, and established systems. The volatility of Bitcoin, no matter how alluring to us, can send shivers down their spines. It's like asking a seasoned captain to ditch the trusty map and navigate by the stars – an exciting experiment, perhaps, but not for everyday sailing.

The employees, too, have a valid point. Wages are the fruit of their labor, the bedrock of their lives. Receiving them in a fluctuating currency, no matter how promising, can introduce a dose of anxiety they might not be comfortable with. It's not just about trusting the tech, it's about trusting their livelihood.

So, what's the answer? Is Bitcoin salary a revolutionary utopia or a risky leap of faith?

Honestly, it's both. It's a future some are sprinting towards, while others cautiously peek over the horizon. And that's okay. Progress, like Bitcoin, thrives on diversity of opinion and pace.

It's very sad to know that the Nigerian government are not paying mind to Bitcoin the same way the youth are waving the flag for them in the crypto world. With the level of advancement in the outer world, Nigeria alone ought to be benefiting from it but our old cabinet of government in power would never let it come to pass, rather than them putting a stop to it and tagging it illegal whenever they like. Well, let's see how it goes now that the ban is lifted.

I really think a lot think more about their investment than what this move would do to their country!

You want to know what would happen if your govemermnt would want to pay all the wages in Bitcoin?
Bankruptcies, deficit, sky high inflation and your currency would be toilet paper!

Why? Just think of the Weimar Republic (Germany) after ww1 and their problems, they had to pay a debt in a foreign currency so they had to purchase that using their own, which nobody wanted so they had to print more to purchase $ then more and moee and more...
Now, let's take Nigeria for example, for the govemermnt to pay all the wages they will need to purchase (If I get this right) (https://punchng.com/fg-to-spend-n7-76tn-on-salaries-others/) 7 billion worth of Bitcoin, now the obvious problem, who would sell you 7 billions dollars worth of bitcoins and get nairas instead? Well...nobody! So you would have to offer more, and more and more as you buy a hard currency with one that nobody wants, till you will have to pay 1 trillion billion naira for 1$. How do you think that would work out for the rest of the population?

Think of the consequences before you think of your own pocket!

Well, that's exactly what will happen there. To be honest, those investors who are used to just taking money out of stocks or investing in them are different now because they will be able to directly buy Bitcoin without hesitation, unlike before. It's not like they will really hesitate a bit.

But right now, I can't say where it's good to invest, as long as you do your own research and don't have anyone else to blame. And besides, this is our free will to do in the field of crypto space.

Nowadays there are quite a lot of investment options so that every year there are always new investors born in any field, because there are many sectors that can be used by them for investment so it is very natural that now investors can earn money through several of these sectors when they have make investments based on your own desires.

If you have no doubts about Bitcoin and stocks, you should also be able to recommend it to others without any hesitation. Although everyone will also do their own research personally after hearing investment advice from other people, for now at least these two things are the best as future investments that can be utilized by everyone.

We are still far away from those days as for government to consider paying their employees salary in Bitcoin or any other crypto currency they need adoption and I know there are lot of crypto users but not enough for government to take this step and even if government decides to pay who will be held responsible if the price dumps? there are certain challenges due to which we cannot expect payment through Bitcoin.

The most important thing is the fact that very few countries have crypto friendly policy and rest are not in good terms with crypto .

Paying salaries using Bitcoin is actually no longer a difficult thing to do because we have various kinds of exchanges and also digital wallets that can be used as a medium for transferring Bitcoin to fellow users and of course the fees can be very cheap. But the thing that makes it difficult is the acceptance and regulation of Bitcoin in the country itself, if the Nigerian government still doesn't give good permission for Bitcoin to be used then that's quite difficult.
The Nigerian government especially, will definitely not be that easy to give permission to companies who want to use Bitcoin as a payroll for their employees, well that really makes adoption difficult, the opportunity for Bitcoin to be used as a payroll medium in Nigeria in my opinion is really very small.

You have said it all. if I had merit,I would have also given to you about your analysis. Because bitcoin transaction fee is getting higher by the day and checking at the least salary someone could receive in such a country like Nigeria, you'll see that you would have almost lost your salary to Bitcoin fee. I doubt your 1/3. i think 4/5 because you'll almost sell your money to fee. Like in a sales of $40 you'll use $32fee for $8 Fiat sales.

Even the company that want to pay you, would loose more money than gaining. Emaging sending salary of $15 with fee of $32 you will see that such company will decide not to continue which is bankruptcy. Because most workers are no serious in there day to day activities and reaching the time of payment company will also like to pay them accordingly on how there work are.  Most will receive higher while others lowoer bit plus or minus the company will lost %40 for a %60 salary.

Think about it, is it useful for them to do that at the present time? Since most of the countries here have weak economies, it can be seen that they are not really ready to accept truly new things, in general, paper money is still a tool for them to use every day.

And if that proposal is applied, they will have to spend more budget to improve service quality. I find this idea not really convincing at the present time. Even countries with top economies are not ready to adopt that, although I can sense the potential of blockchain technology but let it take its natural course like how ETF comes as a inevitable with bitcoin.

You could do your research on that. As far as I know, Central Africa Republic is the only African country that has made Bitcoin a legal tender. The rest of Africa are neutral about Bitcoin.

Once you search on the internet like SatoPrincess given will show the same result. Theres nothing wrong with the payment of the bitcoin but again the market is volatile, imagine it's your payday and the market crashes instead you will receive 100% of your salary you will lose 30% because someone dumps the market, people will disagree with this if they know how does the market go rapidly up and down, adaptation and use of it is i guess enough but taking as one of the salaries for them i guess quite big game changer on the society, for sure people will still seek for the natural currency of their country.

Well, that's exactly what will happen there. To be honest, those investors who are used to just taking money out of stocks or investing in them are different now because they will be able to directly buy Bitcoin without hesitation, unlike before. It's not like they will really hesitate a bit.
Nowadays there are quite a lot of investment options so that every year there are always new investors born in any field, because there are many sectors that can be used by them for investment so it is very natural that now investors can earn money through several of these sectors when they have make investments based on your own desires.
I do agree that it is going to be quite a tough deal if we are not careful with the new people, I mean they may make mistakes and even though what they do with their money is not our problem and we should not be really looking out for others if they do not want to listen, but also what they do could end up being terrible for us as well.

Most newbies who have absolutely no idea what they are doing could end up with a big loss and that should be the key factor here, and that means if they all end up selling at the very wrong time, they could make the price drop and that could be terrible. I think that should be the key factor here, and that should be something that would be giving us some sort of benefit if they know what they are doing.

yeah.. It's about the readiness of these nations to embrace such a significant change. Implementing a system of paying salaries in Bitcoin could indeed pose challenges, especially in regions where the infrastructure and understanding of cryptocurrencies are limited. The transition to a new form of currency requires significant adjustments, both in terms of technology and mindset. Moreover, it might necessitate additional budget allocations to educate and facilitate the workforce in adapting to this change.

Even in countries with more robust economies, there is a hesitancy to fully adopt Bitcoin for salary payments. The volatility of cryptocurrencies and the regulatory uncertainties surrounding them make many governments and businesses cautious about such a move. Allowing blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies to evolve naturally, without rushing into widespread adoption, allows for a more stable and sustainable integration.

I feel this is only likely if the user of the BTC to pay salaries also had a natural way to acquire BTC like maybe usage of Solar or hydro power for mining or similar methods.   If BTC is in natural circulation then it seems a good idea but the usage as currency has to be efficient for them to make sense.    BTC is great in a variety of ways but my number one question for any business usage vs alternatives is the efficiency and ease of use to make that business case, it is very hard for BTC to go vs normal FIAT usage on something routine like salary payment.
Nigeria has a bias to oil as a member of OPEC they have a large investment and asset base in that commodity.   The other perspective would be in a technologically sector, BTC is obviously part of that development in an economy so if it helps to develop business in that respect it would be worth encouraging and thats partly why I think BTC is not banned in many countries for its jobs potential in business development.

And all of those are important reasons why we are not going to see this happening there soon, it is known that when it comes to the adoption of new technologies, the richest countries are the ones that are often at the lead, and this is because not only governments can afford to switch to an experimental technology earlier due to their higher wealth, but people themselves can take the initiative to do so on their own as they more easily recognize the advantages such technology represents.

African countries are much into the usage of cryptocurrencies as their national currencies have dropped value due to inflation. It is very common to see the bitcoin and cryptocurrency acceptance in few African countries. This show the increasing adoption of cryptocurrency. Look at El Salvador, initially everything was opposed and the government stood strong and now they're making the best out of the decision.

There is not a single country that has legally legalized cypto currency or bitcoin as a legal payment, let alone to pay the salaries of government employees officially. only Elsavador, a country in Central America, has begun to legalize bitcoin as a legal means of payment. other than that, it is only legalized as a commodity for buying and selling.

That's a big imagination but who knows it can be a reality in the future. The awareness to use btc as a means of payment is very low compare to the interest of making profit out of it.
Untill people stop treating btc as an asset to make huge profit but an alternative mode of payment to spite the banking institution such imagination can hardly become a reality.
The awareness of btc is fast growing in Africa and hopefully the idea of using it to conduct day to day transactions will also grow alongside.

The idea is nice but, that will only be a transition into a cashless society. Even with the much glamour for cashless society by the previous governments and the vision 2020 agenda, it has not been achieved due to poor network infrastructure.

Businesses not adopting the idea of POS machines plus the expensive nature of these machines , small businesses find it hard to adapt to the cashless economy idea.

One mistake in your post is that, your post did not classify the type of persons that should be paid crypto currencies as salaries because, how will an old woman or man know how to navigate get his or her bitcoins changed .

Besides the exchange rates and charges may also lead to short falls in their salaries within the same day salaries are paid. So someone that gets 100k as salary may end up getting 80 to 90k Nigerian Naira due to charges.

It is not possible, no country will allow any crypto currency to dominate their paper currencies in terms of usage and other transactions.

Africa already has the awareness of BTC and cryptocurrencies in general. Most people still think they are dumb or don't have a nack for the finer things and future initiatives of life, but they are wrong.
If we start by first checking out the first African countries to adopt the use of Blockchain network in creation of something similar to crypto, that is the CBDC initiative, then you will understand that what most African countries need is investors and more campaigns and outreach that talks or sensitizes on such matters.

Nigeria is known to be one of the highest users of cryptocurrencies but it is rarely used for transactions. It is mainly used to cushion the effect of the failing local currency. However, Nigeria is still not ripe for the adoption of Bitcoin for the payment of salaries. The OP should recognize that most of the people that are into cryptocurrencies are youths, the other older people might lack basic knowledge of using cryptos. I am sure many workers will protest such a move by the government.

The Nigerian economy is also a fiat-dominated one in that most transactions are done using the local currency. We saw in the news how the scarcity of physical Naira notes led to anarchy in Nigeria. This is a clear indication that Nigeria is not even mature in online banking transactions.

There is no benefit of paying workers using Bitcoin for payment of salaries except these workers will be able to hodl it for a long time until the price appreciates. Based on the standard of living of most Nigerians, many of them spend their entire earnings on basic needs because their salaries are not even enough to cover expenses. So it will be rare to see workers saving from salaries except they have other sources of income.

El Salvador, the first country to accept Bitcoin as a legal tender is not paying it citizens salaries in Bitcoin. So I wonder why the op would possibly think an africa country would do this. Nigeria, Ghana and South Africa are the countries toping the chart in crypto adoption in the continent but the idea of paying salaries in Bitcoin is not going to happen, not anytime soon. I think the high rate of illiteracy in Africa is one of the reasons this move will fail if any government wants to go down this path.

Yes, Nigeria's economy is fiat-based, therefore using Bitcoin for wage payments seems risky. But isn't progress about that? Entering unknown territories? For any nation, youngsters are the driving force. Their interest in cryptocurrency isn't a fad; it's strategic. Bitcoin could help harness this youth enthusiasm for innovation and financial inclusion

Bitcoin's volatility is a genuine risk for workers' savings. It also limits Bitcoin's potential. Bitcoin can teach financial literacy and empower you, not only save. Workers can learn about market dynamics, diversify their financial portfolio, and engage with a global asset. The immediate change may be difficult, but with the correct education and tools, it can lead to financial resiliency the Naira lacks

Paying workers salary with bitcoin I don't see how it will affect the economy for better, and I don't think this is the most important thing the government can do concerning bitcoin.  The best thing the government can do about bitcoin is to accept Bitcoin for people to trade, invest and use bitcoin for business purpose. I think this will be good benefit to people more than talking about paying people salary in bitcoin.
I think government allowing people to use bitcoin freely will help the economy better than paying Salaries in Bitcoin.

Instead of people leaving their money in the bank, when we know money in the bank loses value with time it will be better for bitcoin to be considered as a store of value because with time this will add value, it will really be of advantage to people more.

That would be really cool but I'm worried about the volatility of bitcoin because that can spell disaster for people that's reliant on that income, imagine if it's payday and that day was also matched or coinciding with the dump in prices, you basically worked for less because of that and you end up with a lower take home pay which would be bad for the family if you're sustaining one. I think in an ideal world, we want this to work but the volatility that bitcoin have, it's difficult to say that it's going to work.

Good ideas when have company using bitcoin to pay salaries for their worker, for some one have target with investment their money for the future by receiving salary through bitcoin will be their saving assets. Depend on values of payment salary receiving if bitcoin on higher price its not really worth due upcoming day get chance for bitcoin correction.
Actually have positive and negative viewed but I think receiving bitcoin as payment salary more dominance with positive side,
the worker can hold and waiting few week or months later bitcoin price will up but if payment time on bitcoin higher price they can sell early before buy back later after bitcoin getting down.

Come on, this is such a long shout to even imagine it possible. It’s something that wouldn’t even happen, even in a case where Bitcoin is accepted for exchange or recognized by governments of the world. What would that say about fiat currency?
It would completely undermine the power of the fiat currency. This is the government’s product we are talking about here and some means by which, they extend a great hold of power and control on its citizen and you want them to take that way from themselves? Nope, they wouldn’t.
In the things I see possible, I don’t think this one would be the case if we still have governance and government.

Citizens might as well get comfortable with fiat because, it’s not going away. If anyone is obsessed with being paid with Bitcoin so badly while working a civil job, you could as well use your salary to buy Bitcoin after wards.

Not just that, it's just one of the issues in implementing bitcoin as a salary, not just in African countries but in other countries as well. As you've mentioned, bitcoin is volatile. Do you think most of the workers will accept it if the value of their salary decreases? I think not. As a reminder, I'm not against bitcoin; in fact, I'm an investor and trader in it and other crypto currencies, but the thing is, I don't think bitcoin in these days can be a good implementation for salary.

Another example is that not all people or workers are open to crypto currency or bitcoin, so it will take some time for those who have no idea about it to adopt that implementation. Another example is the most recent and popular issue these days: the high transaction fees when transferring bitcoin from one bitcoin wallet to another. With the current inflation rate in the economy, do you think workers can shoulder the transaction fees every time they need their salary?

Since it has to do with the government another agency can be set up in the country in respect to paying salaries as Bitcoin which will somehow help in the growth of the economy of the country.

Government agencies are full of bureaucrats who slow down every process, and this includes Bitcoin. They don't necessarily hate it, but the way a government works is that everything is usually done at a snail-pace, so in other words, months or years.

Also, the central banks of those countries would be fiercely opposed to anything involving bitcoin, since that would hurt the banking systems in those countries.

And Nigeria lifting its ban of bitcoin does not mean they will make it a legal tender and the advantage the government will want to be taking will be on tax any were the government does not make money from then they don't really give too much meaning to it. Its good the ban was lifted but I doubt if the government will make bitcoin as a means of payment for the Civil workers before they can even accomplish that their will be a lot of challenges. As for me its better this way you have you cash you invest willing and make your profit rather than collecting bitcoin that is volatile in nature and once the price is down it will have effect of the reserve of country so as it as both advantage and disadvantages so the government really need to deliberate before making such decisions.

Any individual can decide to make it a legal tender in their own company and if it was my business I will do the same thing but at the same time I will store it and I won't sell the once collected already from does that spends their bitcoin.

I mean making it legal tender and accepting crypto are not that similar, one is a whole nation which makes everyone accept it no matter if they want to or not, while the other one is a personal choice. I think accepting bitcoin or any big name crypto at your job is not that bad of an idea, it allows you to be a lot better and it gives you another payment option.

Doesn't mean that you should ONLY accept bitcoin, that would be a bad decision, it would limit you, like accepting only cash for example, or there are now some places that doesn't take cash at all, I feel like those are not really that great. So, the best way to do business would be accepting all kinds of payments that you could technically accept, it is a good move, same with paying salaries as well.

Also, the central banks of those countries would be fiercely opposed to anything involving bitcoin, since that would hurt the banking systems in those countries.

Despite that, it also would hurt the economical development of those countries. Fiat currencies are inflationary what is needed for development. Bitcoin however is highly deflationary, what means it is more worthy to hold them, because it can be expected that its value is more tomorrow than today. This will lead to a downfall of consumption and collapse of the economy. Bitcoin is good to be a value storage but not as a daily usable currency to pay bills with.

Governments and their process have an obvious bias toward politics sometimes its just corruption and failure, laziness in the system that benefits the employees over those who are recipients of the service and this includes central banking I think.   In private business with very large companies I've seen it first hand this also can happen, a large company has a strength to suppress competition and this can lead to similar failure to serve the customer.   However usually private business is undercutting each other but with a natural currency, the national debt the fixed rate forced by central bank its hard for a market to stop failure before its too late.   Im uncertain if BTC can help Africa or any other developing market especially but it should at least offer alternatives to those who have none, its some life line Im just not sure how much.

With the services of some crypto currency payroll agencies  like Bitwage, papaya global, ontop,  which will make it possible for the government to pay their workers in Bitcoin or other crypto currencies and can be sent  into their digital wallet,
It's hard for governments to implement this, because they would have to purchase Bitcoin in order to pay their employees through cryptocurrency. And then there is an issue on this process, due to the possibility of purchasing Bitcoin for an expensive price, and then on the moment they are going to execute the payments the digital currency is devalued... Then the government would face deep losses which would impact the national economy negatively.

Maybe they could create some terms where payments in Bitcoin would be only allowed when the current market prices surpass the prices they purchased Bitcoin for. This way they would never be in loss when paying their employees.

Now, about middleman payment services, I don't think it would be necessary to adopt one or another agency. The government just needs a personal digital wallet to send BTC directly to employees' wallets, like in a P2P transaction. This way the whole process is much simpler, cheaper and safer. Simpler, because it doesn't need a third party service to happen; cheaper, because exchanges' fees are abusive sometimes; safer, because it's dangerous to let your coins idle on someone else's hands, as we have seen so many scams and hacks happening along the years in crypto industry.

Think about it, is it useful for them to do that at the present time? Since most of the countries here have weak economies, it can be seen that they are not really ready to accept truly new things, in general, paper money is still a tool for them to use every day.
Not just them being able to do it or even being ready due to the economic crisis, another thing is: are they even prepared for them to handle such based on technological advancement, and are the citizens even ready to adopt to that? And what it takes for them to just move from the fiat system down to crypto as payment? It's truly not that possible, and this is what I think is the least on the list of any country to do as this won't take them anywhere rather it might end up creating some unnecessary chaos on the system.

It would be a huge step forward for crypto currencies if a country would decide to pay everything in bitcoins going forward. As this is never done before it would be a case study for the future and if successful many countries would follow. The best would be if a small country would try to do it first, the less people living there the less transactions will be needed. Also it should always be an option, every citizen should be able to choose between paying and receiving money in bitcoin or his local currencies. Forcing a whole country to adopt bitcoin without alternative could lead to a big backlash. Then it would make sense for a country to accept all tax payments or other income from the government to be paid in bitcoin. Because if they start paying out large sums of money in bitcoins, they need to get the coins somewhere. And if they have to buy the coins every month via an exchange it makes them predictable and some trader could try and take advantage of them. The best case would be if the government could match their income and expenses, avoiding to run a deficit and making their currency more stable for the link to bitcoins. But it shouldn't be that the government will exchange large amounts of their currency for bitcoins for private investors, or the other way round.

Electing a "Bitcoin-friendly" government is the crucial first step. This would require a political landscape receptive to the disruptive potential of cryptocurrency, willing to navigate the complexities of integrating it into the existing financial system, and addressing public concerns about volatility and security. It's not just about lip service; it demands a deep understanding and genuine commitment to the technology and its implications.

However, I think  about existing government agencies handling the task is insightful. Creating a new agency might be seen as bureaucratic bloat or even a lack of confidence in existing structures. Instead, leveraging the expertise and resources of the treasury department or finance ministry, along with relevant agencies like central banks, could be a more efficient and politically palatable approach.

Of course, this wouldn't be a simple tweak to existing functions. It would require careful collaboration and adaptation. Existing financial regulations, accounting systems, and infrastructure might need significant adjustments to accommodate Bitcoin transactions and ensure transparency and stability. Additionally, educating civil servants and the public about using Bitcoin as a salary option would be crucial, addressing concerns about practicalities and potential pitfalls.

Bitcoin's legal tender status in Nigeria is indeed a crucial hurdle for widespread adoption as a salary option. While smaller, unregistered businesses might have some flexibility, legal and regulatory uncertainties would likely make most established companies hesitate.

The transaction fees and delays you mentioned are also valid concerns. Bitcoin's network can get congested, leading to higher fees and slower processing times. This unpredictability might not be ideal for a consistent and timely salary payment system, especially compared to the familiarity and immediacy of traditional currency.

However, despite these challenges, the potential benefits of using Bitcoin for salary payments shouldn't be ignored. As you mentioned, it can significantly increase awareness and adoption, particularly in a tech-savvy country like Nigeria. Additionally, for individuals concerned about inflation or currency volatility, Bitcoin could offer a more stable and potentially appreciating alternative.

Most countries on the African continent are poor and have very low per capita incomes. There are many other low income countries including Nigeria where many people are getting involved with Bitcoin and I really appreciate those people. There are other African countries, including Nigeria, which are far behind other countries in terms of technology or in all other aspects. Even those who are technologically or otherwise backward, who are using Bitcoin or are involved with Bitcoin are playing a major role in their country's economy. There are other countries, including Nigeria, where jobs are paid in bitcoins, so the news seems unbelievable to me at first. But since so many people in Nigeria are now involved in Bitcoin, the Nigerian government can think about it if they want.
As they are not able to improve their economic condition by other means, they can apply this method.

And this is happening despite the Nigerian government not being very friendly to bitcoin and those which have chosen to adopt it, but when people have to choose between the outdated beliefs and laws of their country and surviving they will pick the latter without a moment of hesitation, and as bitcoin gets more expensive and its adoption grows we will see more people challenging their local governments and do whatever they want with bitcoin, a possibility that governments do not like one bit, but that they cannot really stop from happening.

I don't know if the government of any African country have adopted the system of paying salaries in Bitcoin, but I know here is Nigeria they haven't, it's possible to pay employees using Bitcoin or other crypto currencies

That is not even possible since no country in Africa has adopted the use of bitcoin as legal tender yet and if they did, it is not necessary they pay their workers salary in bitcoin because not all of their workers are computer literate that can manage a wallet by themselves. Only Central African Republic have taken a good course in bitcoin and I don’t think they pay their workers salary in bitcoin.

Quote
With the services of some crypto currency payroll agencies  like Bitwage, papaya global, ontop,  which will make it possible for the government to pay their workers in Bitcoin or other crypto currencies and can be sent  into their digital wallet,
Since it has to do with the government another agency can be set up in the country in respect to paying salaries as Bitcoin which will somehow help in the growth of the economy of the country.

This is not the most convenient way to help grow the economy of the country and that is why the government is not yet to buy the idea yet. They could see the advantages but are not yet convinced with the disadvantages. As we want full adoption and widespread use of bitcoin, we need to look at the aftermath of it when used for any purpose that will not be convenient for the users since this is a technology that needs to be introduced gradually and users enlightened about it before them agreeing to save or use that currency for their own purposes.

Believe me, when I say it will be done very fast, if there are something in it for them. Let's take these examples :

1. Let's say your country are being sanctioned by other countries, then you have an incentive to bypass the sanctions with say Crypto currencies. (This will motivate the government leaders to push for this change)

2. Let's say your government are corrupt and you want to hide bribes and payments, then you will quickly move to a currency that can help you with that. (Monero)

3. Let's say you destroyed your local currency (hyper inflation) and you need another currency to protect the value of your wealth.

4. Let's say the majority of your voters wants to use the new currency and they base their decision to vote for you on your support for this, then they will rush the process.

In cases like this, countries will rush the implementation of new currencies or new technologies, because they are getting something from it.

all countries or almost all countries in the world, no one has paid their employees with bitcoin, let alone government employees, aka civil servants, of course, have not implemented it. except for private companies whose companies are engaged in the field of bitcoin, crypto currency or exchangers, there may already be those who apply their salaries paid using bitcoin.

I disagree with you. It is very possible for them to move from a fiat system to Crypto as a means of payment. Technological advancement is not fully accepted once it comes; it takes time and process for people to believe and accept it. There are tech-inclined people in these African countries that will adopt it first and start using it; even government agencies can easily adopt it, giving the masses some time to get acquainted with it. Do you remember when the ATM (automated teller machine) was introduced in some parts of Africa? Some countries were against it and said it wouldn't be possible now that you can find ATMs in almost every country in Africa.

there are several reasons why companies are reluctant to pay employee salaries in bitcoin; first, the company gets paid from their clients in the form of fiat currency. second, company assets usually consist of fiat, bonds, and other stable assets, not volatile assets like bitcoin. third, it is much more efficient and effective for companies to pay their employees' salaries in fiat currency, where they can avoid fees and employees can receive their salaries directly and not have to bother exchanging them.

that's the reason why companies are reluctant to pay their employees in bitcoin, because it is not effective and efficient. regarding the good potential of bitcoin in the future, it is up to the employees, whether they will invest in it or not.

I think you yourself know that it will be very hard for a country to adopt bitcoin and start using it as a means of paying their workers when they have their own fiat currency that is legal in the country at large. Did you know that for the government to start paying their employees with bitcoins, it means that they have completely accepted bitcoin as a legal tender in such a country, which the government did not want? Although I read in some previous replies that they said Central Africa accepted bitcoin as an alternative means of payment, even with that, they didn’t make it their main means of payment for their employees.

Furthermore, there are countries that lack proper technology. Even Nigerian workers have such problems. There is not much technological advancement in the country that will have a positive outcome for using bitcoin as a means of payment. Don’t forget that bitcoin is something that someone must learn before starting to use it, so I don’t think most people have time to go back and learn the process of bitcoin technology now.

And remember that even if they do, the government will be the one responsible for teaching them. There will be many bills for the government before those people learn the technology, so these are the things that I think the government will not allow bitcoin to be part of the currency to pay their employees.

Central African Republic has followed the path of El Salvador making bitcoin as a legal tender. But the rest of the African countries don’t see bitcoin as a legal tender, although some of these countries are currently active in bitcoin investments. So if Central African Republic is accepting bitcoin as a legal tender, it’s highly possible that employees may request from their employees to pay them in bitcoin.

However, in some African countries like Nigeria, their central bank is not recognizing bitcoin as a legal tender, even though Nigeria is known to be a crypto friendly after it has lifted its ban on crypto. Most likely, these countries do not see bitcoin as a currency but mostly a property or a long term investment.

Nevertheless, I’m still seeing bigger chances for most of African countries to accept bitcoin as a legal tender in the future. The fact that bitcoin is already legal in their countries, then most probably years from now it will be from Africa again that we will hear bitcoin considering as a legal tender. With that, it’s not surprising if employees will be paid in bitcoin as long as there is mutual agreement between the employer and its employees.

What African governments need to consider is their economic and monetary policies, because adopting Bitcoin as a payment option means impacting changes on policy and also on traditional finance itself. It all depends on how stable the currency is as well as public support for the Bitcoin payment option, whether they know each disbursement process. Nigeria itself has been around for quite a long time and could be said to be Bitcoin friendly and even then it depends on the region whether it is really used to the digital payment system. Because what often becomes an obstacle for the government is access plus establishing regulations. To achieve payments using Bitcoin, the most important fundamental thing is that lower middle class people receive education and training on how to use Bitcoin well and understand the volatility of the Bitcoin market, especially workers and entrepreneurs who will receive these payments..

Introducing bitcoin as a means of payment, or introducing Etherium, or introducing Avalanche will not solve anything. As many examples have shown, when people tried to slip populist solutions to distract from real problems, and from solving real problems rather than manipulating the consciousness of citizens. The best example is El Petro (petro), a cryptocurrency developed by the Venezuelan government. Instead of taking real steps to solve economic problems, to fight corruption, to restore normal relations on the world market, the government decided to give itself a head start by telling people the fabulous result of replacing one unit of account with another. I predicted the result even at the beginning of this "project" - the only useful solution is an opportunity for the anti-people rulers to stay in power....

Once again - no replacement of units of account will not fix the problems of the economy.

Africa's economic and monetary policies, including Bitcoin adoption, are at a crossroads. Beyond being Bitcoin-friendly, you must comprehend digital currency's dynamics in a typical financial setting. Nigeria may lead, but what about other regions? It's not uniform. Regions, difficulties vary. Let's not even mention Bitcoin's volatility - a fantastic rollercoaster for the brave

Lower middle-class education and training? An absolute must. We're not simply educating people how to use Bitcoin; we're also discussing its effects on their daily life. And the government? Their job is vital in fostering innovation and public safety through regulation. They should take on the issue of balance. Bitcoin adoption is a step toward economic empowerment and inclusivity, not merely a financial decision. Progress is about that, right?

Why did the African country announce something about that matter—that the companies in their country will pay Bitcoin to the employees that the companies have? As far as I know, there seems to be no such news yet. Also, I have never heard of a company in the world that pays their employees in Bitcoin instead of their fiat currency.

Moreover, in these times, it seems that it is also not advisable or recommendable to pay bitcoin for employees' wages. Because of opportunities like this in these times of approaching halving and bull runs, every bit of bitcoin is very important.

I think this is complicated to do but maybe possible of both parties the government and the employees will agree to the mode of payment but for me it is unlikely to happen due to the risk of volatility.

You won't say it is not advisable to pay workers with bitcoin except you are talking about the internet challenge and the volatility which happens to be the challenge so far because the price can change at landing and some people might feel cheated with that or feel it is an intentional act that the sender reduced the quantity of coins. If not for such volatility doubt, nothing is wrong with sending someone who is knowledgeable about bitcoin his salary through his wallet. Afterall people still trade on P2P and arbitrage.

Many governments in Africa are finding it difficult to adopt bitcoin and talk of paying their workers in bitcoin. I don't even think that even countries that have adopted Bitcoin will plan on paying their workers in bitcoin. I don't really think it will make more sense for any government to be paying their workers in bitcoin. Due to the volatile nature of bitcoin, the price is always fluctuating, so if workers are paid in bitcoin, it will affect some workers because some of them may lose money in the bitcoin market, which is not stoppable.

And even in some countries, governments have to start paying their workers in bitcoin. I don't think it will start in African countries because I believe the rate of internet ignorance is very high, and if possible, any African country will start paying their workers; it will not be in this current generation, it will be in a generation with some level of ignorance in African countries.

In short, I don't think Bitcoin was created to replace fiat money; it was created for the purpose of privacy, and I am sure people's privacy is what governments don't really want, so I think it will be so hard for the government to pay workers in bitcoin.

I think African countries have similar issues as Latin America.
Companies not paying much for people just biding their time, the skill level mainstream is pretty low.
In South America companies are not investing into their labour force.

If we want to Africa start paying salaries in Bitcoin they should expand their Internet scope cause what I know is not the majority of African people can't access the Internet tho. Rather than expecting African countries to start paying salaries in Bitcoin in a short time their people are already able to earn Crypto online in many ways and it will boost their knowledge about cryptocurrencies.

In some countries the average salary is less than what you can earn in a signature campaign on Bitcointalk. I imagine fees could be an issue for these people. You could probably find a workaround using Fedimint or something custodial.

In general, it is positive if employers want to pay their workers in Bitcoin. In cases where there are accounting errors we will always have a permanent record on the blockchain to be able to correct mistakes.

Exactly,  government deciding to pay workers in bitcoin will not solve anything about financial crisis and economic problems of s countries if things to be look into are not solved accepting bitcoin won't do any much different for the economy.  The main thing Africa governments needs to look into before accepting bitcoin and for payment of workers salary is for them to learn good management of funds, if their is no good management of funds and to make good investment i don't think accepting bitcoin will make any difference.  Its just like an investor that lacks good management, the problem of lack of investment will definitely affect decision to accept Bitcoin or pay workers in bitcoin.  Good management of fund is what Africa needs to help the economy.

As far as I know, until now there is no country in Africa where local companies pay their employees' salaries using Bitcoin. Perhaps these companies consider that using Bitcoin will increase the company's burden since they need to invest in it and incur fees to pay for each transaction. And also employees might object to the rule because they have to exchange the Bitcoins they earn into fiat for their needs. These reasons may be the underlying reasons why companies do not pay their salaries in Bitcoin to their employees even though their countries allow Bitcoin to be used as legal tender.

Even Central Africa Republic adoption of bitcoin too is in low key because after the announcement of their adoption of bitcoin as their legal tender, I have not heard anything from them again. Or is it that they not much in this forum? Because I have not even seen their posts in the forum. And if really African countries accept bitcoin and using it to pay salary then the inflation level would come down because the use of local currency will reduce and one the uses of local currency is reduced then the demand of dollar rate in the continent will also reduces them dollar will fall out from the continent.

Accepting bitcoin in all sectors of the governmental institutions is what we are hoping to see and do in the region we are really tired of the high inflation in the continent.

Well for the fact that Nigeria still remains the only African country that have the highest volume of bitcoin transactions shows that even those countries that have made public acceptance of bitcoin are still on a very low key level and still very far from being called a fully bitcoin legal tender country, any ways we also have to look at the the other end of things such as the level of bitcoin usage within the country and what the total bitcoin volume are based on the total adoption level in the country.

So for that, we are all aware of the fact that bitcoin usagebliity in Nigeria is still very high even higher than what we have in the central Republic who is already a bitcoin legal tender country.

Once again - no replacement of units of account will not fix the problems of the economy.

You are absolutely right !
And I am very sorry to see how the residents of some countries are once again being manipulated by the government, telling them fairy tales about how they will become rich after they replace their currency with Bitcoin. It all ends with this:
- a lot of time will be lost
- there will be no positive result
- the people will continue to remain in the role of a fool who is manipulated, most likely by a highly corrupt government
- the population will again come up with a new “culprit” for the failure of the project, and it will be anyone except those who promoted this fake.

As a result, the population will become even poorer, the authors of the project will become richer, everything will go into a new circle - a new fabulous “salvation” project, and so on in a spiral many times over. Until the people understand that they are being manipulated and the government is not solving real problems, but is only making money

Title: Re: Imagine African countries using Bitcoin to pay salaries,

Why did the African country announce something about that matter—that the companies in their country will pay Bitcoin to the employees that the companies have? As far as I know, there seems to be no such news yet. Also, I have never heard of a company in the world that pays their employees in Bitcoin instead of their fiat currency.
Well, based on my understanding, OP is trying to say like "what if" African countries will try to use Bitcoin as payment for their employees? I think this is complicated to do but maybe possible of both parties the government and the employees will agree to the mode of payment but for me it is unlikely to happen due to the risk of volatility.

Some people here wish that, no African country has yet announced that and will not, that it is economic suicide to introduce Bitcoin as the first currency in a country. Not even Ecudador has dared to do that; although Bitcoin is an official means of payment there, the main currency is still the US dollar.
