Title: why storing trust wallet in a hardware more recommendable than i mobile devices
Post by: AVE5 on April 06, 2024, 02:03:15 PM
While still growing in our crypto investments, lets not pretend of know what we actually don't else it's technically mean that you're playing our with your assets.
I've been hearing about how trust wallet is a good recommendable Wallet for beginners but the wallet must be stored on a hardware storage such as the laptop and the desktop but shitty and risky of stores on the mobile devices such as phone.
What's really the difference in the storage system since it's the same wallet platform?

Trustwallet is closed source and it's not recommended. There is no way to know how keys are generated on trustwallet and whether they are stored on their server or not.
Take note that whether you use trustwallet on your mobile phone or on desktop, it's unsafe.

It's always recommended to use a trustworthy open source wallet.

Don't get it all wrong, your bitcoin or crypto asset is not stored on the kind of device you're using, they are directly stored on the blockchain, you only need to have access to the unblocking keys that will grant you control over their access from the blockchain, as regarding the use of trust wallet, its not the best in the sense that its a non custodial close source wallet, had it been its open source, i would have recommend you from using it, its safety is not about the kind of device used on importing the wallet, but the source code that is not open to the public.

You probably end up like this user My trustwallet of $211,000 has been stolen, any help or advice is appreciated (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5491674.0)

After all it's your choice and your money, I won't loss anything if someone compromise your wallet. :P

There are no difference if you install the wallet be it in laptop, desktop or phone, if you connect it to internet, all of them are hot wallet and they're prone against hack or malwares.

Phones and laptops or other online devices are not as safe as cold wallets like wallet on an airgapped device or airgapped hardware wallets and some hardware wallets that are reputed.

Phone is riskier because you are carrying it about but laptop is not also that safe.

Just as hosseinimr93 posted already, Trustwallet is close source. Not recommendable at all. Better use open source wallets.

Who told you so, actually is a newbie, a beginner too.

Trust wallet is closed source, not open source, even it is self-custodial. You can read reviews about Trust wallet there.

Your English is broken and words used not carefully, that makes your sentence is terrible in idea.

Hardware storage?

Laptop, desktop computer or mobile devices, are the different in your definition "Hardware storage"?
Your definition is wrong.

Phone is less secured than desktop computer or laptop so if you have PC or laptop, use it than your phone, to store your bitcoin.

Your device OS can help, like Windows is a paradise for fake apps, hackers but Linux is better, you will have less risk there. The bottom line is they are all can not save you if you use your device and Internet not carefully.

Trust wallet is not recommended for crypto investors who care about their investment security. As said before, Trust Wallet is a close source but the Dev team claimed it's open-source and any platform that lied about their services like that will technically have a shady thing going on.  Besides, a lot of Trust wallet users once had an issue where their transaction was sent to another recipient address which was later fixed after reporting the problem to the wallet dev. All this and more shows there's a back door created by the trust wallet team which they can use to move their user's fund.

The mobile phone wallet is always vulnerable to attack but I will advise you to get a hardware wallet instead.

A wallet installed in a laptop or smartphone doesn't really make any big difference as long as it is connected to the internet. Moreover, the Trust wallet is a closed source which others already pointed out.

You can try  Unstoppable wallet (https://unstoppable.money/) which is an open-sourced multi-crypto wallet that is way better than every multi-crypto wallet available at the moment.

Firstly, from the way you compose your statement you need to understand  the types of wallet and forms of storage, I beleive  many alot  of your curiosity  has been addressed from the replies above and I won't  want to go into it again but you should know this.

You can have a hot wallet with a cold storage depending  on your choice, although some wallets are completely inform of hot wallet  ( along with storage), this is common with exchange wallets so not all wallets  suports cold storage.

Trust wallet is partially open sourced  and not completely  open sourced so it's  still  a closed sorce to everyone.

Anyone passing such information out about wallet might actually not understand much about wallet. Be it on a laptop or on mobile, if a wallet isn't suitable for storing you digital assets, it is still going to be unsafe. Trust wallet have been reported several times here on the forum for its inability to secure funds and users funds are easily stolen or hacked through the trust wallet. Alot of newbies first wallets usually ends up being trust and I don't know why it's that famous everywhere. It's unsafe and not secured. So like I had said, it doesn't matter where you install trust wallet, it's just not secured.

Trust Wallet does not have a desktop version and the only version available is the desktop browser extension, which is considered less secure compared to the Android version, as you will be safe if you do not download random applications to your phone.
Trust Wallet is closed source and there is an open source alternative https://unstoppable.money/

Actually it is more recommended to have your wallet in laptop Or computer because nowadays most of the daily routine tasks are performed using mobile phones and the chance of the phone to get hacked by small hackers through different techniques is very high. That's why it's more recommended to use hardware like laptops and computers for trust wallets where you don't perform many tasks so they're safer than mobiles.

Actually what I would recommend is that you should buy a cheap device that will only be used for storage of assets. It will keep you Safe from many accidents believe me.

If by "cheap device" you mean a hardware wallet from a respectable manufacturer, then yes.  Using a hardware wallet from a good company is definitely the way to go for secure crypto storage.  But I wouldn't trust just any old cheap phone or laptop to keep my coins safe.  Who knows what kind of flaws or security holes those things might have!

I've been hearing about how trust wallet is a good recommendable Wallet for beginners but ....

OP I don't actually know who recommended trust wallet for you but with my experience with trust wallet in the past I can say that it is not a reliable wallet to entrust your coin and if you want to teleport your seed phrases you generated from other wallets to trust wallet you will be finding it difficult and another thing is this dust errors that always pops up when performing a transaction with trust wallet, instead electrum wallet is more preferable

Most people recommend trust wallet it is because the User Interface is good and keep bunch of asset but like the other said earlier that Trust Wallet is closed source so most of people don't recommended it. I personally use trustwallet on my mobile phone as my hot wallet hahah I don't my money there only few to explore the Defi universe and save the other token on mu different wallet with hardware wallet on it

It's even more risky to have a crypto wallet running on a PC.

You will be worried about viruses, malware, spyware, Trojans, bad links, and many more.

Trust wallet is a closed-source wallet and if you want to use it, they are safer on a mobile phone, keep your seed off the phone though, don't take a screenshot of your seed using the phone.

Spend @$100 on a hardware wallet, go with the open source airgapped ones and you should be fine, hardware wallets keep your assets away from online, which is the biggest threat to any crypto assets.

Both PC and phones aren't as safe as a hardware wallet.

Trust wallet was never a very highly recommendable wallet but I wonder how the wallet is so popular and even the most preferable wallet by newbies. Like myself, I am still using this trust wallet and metamask but am aware that they are not the safest wallet, I am not worried probably because I don't have too much amount of asset. If for example I have a large amount of asset in cryptocurrency, It will definitely move me to seek a better security wallet, like hardware wallet.

Desktop computers tend to stay put, so they're not as easy to lose or have stolen as mobile devices that we carry around.  And some folks think phones and tablets catch more malware trying to sneak into wallet apps and steal private keys.  PCs let you beef up security with antivirus software, firewalls, all that jazz.

But still, I think most of the security comes from the software wallet itself. So, it is better to choose the best possible solution. Something that is open source and thoroughly tested and validated by experts.

That's wrong, Trust Wallet is only available on smartphone, so how would you use it on laptop or onto a desktop computer? You would need to use an Android emulator for that, and that's not safe at all because it can be infected by malwares or it can have some backdoors and the owners of the software could steal your datas or see what you are typing there without you knowing it. So if you display your seed or type your seed into it they could catch it and easily drain your wallet. In my opinion, it's way safer to only use it through your smartphone. But as it has been said above it's not recommended to store large amounts into it, you should only use it as a hot wallet, and it's less convenient to use a hotwallet on a laptop or a desktop computer than onto a smartphone actually.

How can you store trust wallet? how did you ended up with this idea? Did you read somewhere said that trust wallet can be put in a hardware?

If you're talking about hardware as an actual device then sure it can be downloaded into a smartphone and that's your hardware. I think that it had became a popular one when Binance have acquired it.

And when there have been a lot of new projects in the BSC where it's like also endorsed, that's how it had gained popularity but I've never used it since this day.

Trustwallet has a browser extension which can be used on desktop computer.

If I understood OP correctly, by hardware, he means laptop or PC and he is asking about the difference between using trustwallet on desktop computer and mobile phone.

Because of the habit of people from the beginning using Trustwallet from the first TWT airdrop and in the end they are in the habit of using this wallet anyways they never learn how secure this wallet is and they will not know closed source or open source.

I also still use Trustwallet until now but never used it only installed on mobile but left there also no valuable assets except the remaining ETH and BSC for the purpose of sending tokens in the past.

But it is not recommended to store large assets especially bitcoin, it is better to choose Trezor hardware much safer than other hotwallets.

Every electronic device is a piece of hardware. I assume that by "storing" he actually meant "installing".

That's wrong, Trust Wallet is only available on smartphone, so how would you use it on laptop or onto a desktop computer?

In addition to smartphones, Trust Wallet can also be used on a laptop or desktop computer as an extension for Chrome, Brave, Opera, and Edge browsers.

Alright, and thanks for your answer on him that it's not safe at all whichever device he's going to install it, be in on handheld or desktop/laptop.

Yeah, that's probably what he meant and that's why I've came up with those questions. There's a misunderstanding but it's all clear and the main point here whether it's safe to use this kind of wallet or not.

And good thing he's got the answers already that he can consider for his decision making.

Trust is not the best wallet for beginners, beside they are open source wallet and that means how the wallet is built is hidden from the public and if there is any sort of bug or error within the code of the wallet, community cannot detect it and it's possible that hackers can have there way around it with public knowing what's happening behind scenes. Another reason why Trust wallet is popular is because of marketing and Binance backed. They have the exchange support and that's why the growth has been massive.

If anyone is looking for a better alternative wallet, open source that support erc20, BSC 20 many more EVM chian is to use Metamask, thee is a mobile version for everyone looking for best wallet for software wallets and it's also open. As for Bitcoin, you can make use electrum wallet which is also open source and free.

This is because your hardware wallet keeps your private keys safe offline from online risk and threats like hackers, but Trust wallet is more secured mobile crypto wallet .
It is still necessary to follow the wallet security to ensure proper fund security, therefore you have to write down your recovery phrase and attach your passcode to your wallet .

Trust wallet is the best alternative because it gives comprehensive support for different Blockchain and crypto asset .

The reason why hardware wallet is better than i mobile phone is that phones will often be stolen, hacked it can be in possession of anyone at any time.
An offline Trezor or Ledger cannot be hacked,it can only be stolen physically .

Offline wallets that is stored in a safe can't be accessed via the internet or WiFi, and that is the only way to hack mobile wallets.

The only fool-proof way of storing password keys is in the brain, which can only be hacked through drugs and hypnosis.
Memory is capable of making mistakes . Time, sickness, ageing, trauma and disease can erase even the best kept memories.
