Title: Technobit Hex16a died this morning Post by: TrytoHex on March 31, 2014, 08:30:02 PM Apparently one of my Hex16a miners died this morning. Saw during the day that all miners from one of my tplink routers were down. Just got back from work and know enough when I opend the door, this distinct smell of burend electrical components...
I Guess it is beyond repair, several capacitator thingies blew straigt off and at least 10 others look burst. Took off the heatsink, backside off the board is black too. By the way, is it normal that there are pices of cardboard between the heatsink and the board? I changed the PSU on these miners yesterday, could it have to do something with that? I had 3 miners on an OCZ 550W before, but it droppend out from time to time, so i changed it for a Corsair RM850. Wow you pushed it too far? Default is 350/1200, too many Gigawatts! :o Might want to try adding a fan to the other side of the board if you're running them hot. The pieces of card are normal. I have them on my first Hex16B. I think they were there to stop some solder shorting on the heatsink. Did you remove the card before it blew up? I had them running like this for about 4 months now, never had a problem.
Tuned the rest down to 450/1390 now, don't want to burn up my house... When my Hex8 arrives in the next couple of days I Will throttle them down to default I guess... No, I didn't remove the card before, I normally don't disassemble my miners, I just wantend to see if it burned through the board or not, was quite sure the board was beyond repair right away. I Will get over it... ;) The Hex8 will cheer me up. ;D Another couple of weeks and the Hex16a1's Will be obsolete anyway. Title: Re: Technobit Hex16a died this morning Post by: TheRealSteve on March 31, 2014, 11:56:12 PM Looks like most of the damage is right at the power connector (flipped the image of the bottom of the board and overlaid it on a top down shot of a non-damaged board).. that really shouldn't be getting hot. Maybe the wires weren't securely fastened down? That could cause sparking (especially if there's vibration from e.g. fans) and eventually heat (not to mention voltage and current spikes that the rest of the board probably wouldn't be happy about). Might be misjudging the pictures, though.. you need to upgrade your potato :)
