How did you all guys get into bitcoin? I got into bitcoin when i was Googling about how to buy a memory card?

i got into bitcoin through online poker. when online poker got shut down for the united states and sites got shut down. i found seals with clubs and bitcoins and thats how i got into bitcoin through the poker community

Would like to give credit to precious metals.. Was involved in it, then came to know about the bitcoins. But was not quite a beliver at that time. So was little bit late in joining the wagon.

First heard about it through the Time magazine's article about the deep web and the Silk Road bust; became really interested when a bitcoin became $600 a piece.  FYI:  we are still very early in the bitcoin game so don't worry about having missed out on anything; we are still ahead of the curve.

I read about it on Digg during 2013. Got interested, did a lot of Googling then, got involved and signed up on this forum too :)

Friends in the valley who adopted early and swore by it

I heard about them really early in 2012  I think. But got into it last year november. Just kick myself of not getting earlier.

I read a very early article about it, and looked into mining. I am not sure if the GPU miners had been written at that point, but the CPU I had was supposed to take 180 days to solo a block and they were worth cents. I filed it away as "interesting, gotta check back on that when I get more powerful hardware"... so months/years scooted by and I was rejigging and rebuilding machines in late 2012 and Jan 2013 and suddenly reminded myself, "Oh, gotta look into bitcoin again" and holy crap WTFBBQ things were taking off, so I threw a crappy GPU rig together and ordered BFL singles.

In mid 2013, when bitcoin was becoming more noticeable. When will it reach half of the populace on the net?

End 2013 i learned an article.

Honestly, I don't really know. I guess I forgot it.

But to make an educated guess, I think I read an article about it somewhere on the internet. And started mining (altcoins) as soon as I bought a new desktop with a HD7950 GPU, which earned me enough money to cover the costs of the buy :).

Friend told me ... about month ago :D

I felt like the latest person in the world who does not know.
But when I see all the newbies, new(bi)er than me  ;D .. that makes me feel better.

The brother of a friend told me about people that earn money with their pc's. I checked it out and was told its too late to mine. Its not worth it. That was 2011. At the end i bought some bitcoins and shortly after MtGox was hacked. Bitcoins crashed and i lost interest for another year...

I heard it from one of my best friends a few months ago. :)

I got to know about Bitcoins through a forum  ;)

I don't exactly remember. I think it was 2010 - 2011 when I heard about it.

I remember it being under $1 >.<

I remember realizing there was no limit to the potential value of Bitcoin.

In case you haven't hear it before; we could one day be saying "I remember when bitcoins were under $1,000".

Heard about them very early, like early 2010. FML.

Through a friend who is a grey hat. He explained it to me and then I looked into it on my own. I am a trader and I read up on economics (fiat currency debasement, Austrian school, etc.) so bitcoin has that appeal in addition to the technological aspect.

Yep.   playing game, on a few servers, found a few friends, (one an admin on a server)  that server shut down, kept in contact, talkeda bout starting up a server etc...

That admin friend was already into bitcoin a bit, (friend of his gave him coins to start)

after him mentioning things, i got interested, and started checking things out myself.

Mine seems to be more mainstream, when I remember some cnn report on bitcoin on rising then crashing also a friend mentioned it once to buy with weed.

My friend asked if I had bitcoin for weed, thats about it, then the rest was history.

I first heard about the BTC in 2011, but never took it seriously. Got my first BTCs only in 2013 January, after my friend compelled me to collect some.

I first heard Bitcoin last year and I am regretting that I ignored it then.

I saw someone mentioning bitcoin in another forum last year, and so I did a google search and ended up here. :)

Read something in Time magazine in late 2012. Bought a $100 graphics card. Never got it set up, worst decision ever. Heard about it in late 2013 when the price was booming, then got interested again.

Guessing that a $100 card would have been something like a HD5770,  ~200Mh set up right, mining from 1st November 2012 to 1st October 2013 would have got you about 6 bitcoins :D

I was actually probably going to mine LTC, probably would've mined more than 50 BTC worth of LTC

I heard about bitcoin in another forum related to internet marketing. that time the bitcoin price is only $5. Due to many negative commends from other members i did not join the bitcoin bandwagon. I am regret it now.

My friend introduced me in to bitcoin world. Initially it is very hard for me to understand the bitcoin concept.

I simply browse in the net and heard a lot of success and rumors that BTC has a very high value in which I first started is it is around $700+ however it keeps on droping nowadays. LOL .. But still I am not loosing any hope to gain some and have some nice profit from it though..hehhehe

No my account works perfect. It was in october when i read an article about the price of bitcoin that went up and a person (i think it was in norwegian or denmark or so) who sold his bitcoins he bought by the start of bitcoin. He had enough to buy an appartment. It was a student i think.

I just heard about it through the media. I've watched it grow from one or two tiny mentions every once in a while to getting more and more coverage weekly.

Heard about it in the media and was hooked instantly because of the IT background I have. (software developer)

The Newsweek article about the alleged Bitcoin creator hit rather close to home, so to say.

I think all it really needs is more publicity...less of the bad kind of course, but it helps either way.

I got into bitcoins when I was checking some antivirus product called Malwarebytes. And then I saw the possibility to buy it with bitcoins. I learned about it and thought it was cool.

My friend introduced me around nov last year r....and i had similar response as the masses(scam, not real, ponzi, <insert BS>)..until i read and learned about it from lurking these forums ;) ;) and hands on experience..now i have been enlightened  ;D ;D ;D i believe bitcoin is not only a good investment for greedy reasons but that it is also an innovative technology(blockchain) thats going to take the world by storm!!

Ugh, didn't realize there are 2 of these threads going at the moment, confusing.

My buddy showed me the potential of crypto currency, and showed me how to begin mining. Depending on what coin you start mining really can determine the path you go in terms of hardware and longevity, if and when you start to mine. I really enjoy it.  ;D

I first encountered Bitcoin through a favorite site of mine.

I really enjoy that site and wanted to help by donating. Then, I bumped into Bitcoin. The site accepts Bitcoin and since I don't know how to send them some BTC, I got curious and then started to learn how do Bitcoins work.

Thats pretty cool. I think thats pretty awesome to see that of being a payment adoption.

 Found out about Silk Road. Too scared to actually use it. Subsequently, bitcoim was experiences it's biggest run up at the same time 4/13. Bought my first BTC at $350

I'd heard about it in chatrooms/channels of games years ago. Most people thought it was a joke that would never last by nerds who didn't understand currency, so I didn't have enough faith to spend time learning how to mine at the time. Wish I had, I'd be a millionaire. I got back into cryptocurrencies again now that I have money to invest and kept seeing dogecoin on the front page of Reddit.

Welcome on these forums ;). I bet many people over here have the same experience, we all wished that we jumped onboard earlier ;). 

However, I don't think you're too late. We still have a long way ahead of us ;).

I knew bitcoin a year ago, then i created a blockchain wallet. I used to had 0.3 BTC in inputs.io , luckily i withdraw before it hacked :D

And how did i get into it ? seriously i'm really curious too, i've asked myself and try to recall my memory. But still i can't remember it -_- funny -_-

I started paying attention to Bitcoin after watching the Keiser Report on RT's youtube channel (http://www.youtube.com/user/RussiaToday/feed).  Kind of wish I'd bought when I first heard about it, but left it a little late and bought in November during that massive up spike.  Pity that his "maxcoin" launch was such a shambles, though.

I began as just a speculator, but having done a fair amount of research, I'm now a big proponent of the ethos behind cryptocurrency.  A decentralised, debt-free economy with no crooked bankers taking a cut.

At first time I found out  about Bitcoins from my friend  who told me all the advantages disadvantages of cryptocurrency. But I decided to take a chance and here I am!

First time I heard about Bitcoin from Euronews

At first I heard of it in 2008 in some magazine, but did not pay much attention. And a couple of months ago my friend started asking me about cryptocurrency, how it is safe to mine and what possible risks are. Now we got a couple of PC with ATI 7970.

According to the bitcoin wiki, the bitcoin white paper was published on Oct 31, 2008 and the genesis block was found on Jan 3 2009.
I don't think you can see a story of bitcoin in magazine in 2008...

I got into bitcoin through MMORPG, when a guy was selling games gold for bitcoins.

I bought weed off my dealer, and then he asked to be paid by bitcoin.

Looks like there are not a few tech savvy drug dealer around... ;)
