[Idea] Decentralized Press based on Bitcoin's Protocol

It just dawned on me, between bitcoin's protocol allowing messages to be embedded in it's blockchain and social video websites making an opening for an open unrestricted press, why don't we have a decentralized press similar in design to bitcoin's protocol?

Imagine peer to peer secure information sharing specifically of news and current events. This, I think would be the next step in spirit of freedom of speech.

Thoughts anyone?

I for one would love to see something like this, but how would it be made possible?

What is decentralized press and how does it benefit in searching for useful/relevant information?

Something like this could work, I had the same idea in using it as a "library" in sort of ways. But, putting data other than text in it would explode the blockchain size and make it nearly impossible to be stored in a p2p fashion. So, media is outta the question =/

The blockchain's purpose is to really serve as a historical set of records that are the truth and cannot be changed or duplicated. All done w/o a central authority. So, anything else other than a currency this could be advantageous to in the digital world ... would be the next step of the blockchain. Kinda like the digital asset proof scheme being worked on next.  Is there any other type of data that could benefit from this type of system? hrm... I dont know...
