Title: Any decentralized alternatives to CMC?
Post by: Abiky on April 21, 2025, 01:12:52 PM
Is there a decentralized app or website which serves as an alternative to CoinMarketCap? In case the popular crypto market indexing site goes down, it would be wise to have an alternative hosted on a decentralized CDN or infrastructure. Has any developer thought about this? Imagine being able to track the prices of not only CEXs, but also DEXs in a completely decentralized and censorship-resistant manner. I'm thinking of an alternative hosted on ZeroNet, SAFE Network, or even IPFS.

Is something like this available? If not, do you think developers will make it happen? Or is there no need for such a thing?

Your input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. :)

I doubt that this may exist one day or another. I mean this will be technically sophisticated compared to the possible revenue later.
To be honest, i didn't think about such an alternative before reading this topic, and as i see no interaction, i think that this maybe not a realistic plan currently.

Overall, the idea is good with a unique concept. It's possible that the idea hasn't occurred to anyone yet, so I consider your opinion a good initiative that could be implemented after further study. I suggest you republish it in the Project Development board, where your initiative could receive more interaction.

Most developers don't care about decentralization these days, so odds of seeing a decentralized alternative to CoinMarketCap are pretty slim these days. Of course it will be difficult to implement such an idea. Especially if we're talking about using alternative protocols, networks, and/or domain name systems. Even if successfully implemented, developers would have to make things easier for people to get on-board (mainstream adoption). I guess that's why websites hosted on ZeroNet didn't take off. We'll be stuck with centralized crypto market price indexing services forever. I'm talking about CMC competitors such as CoinCap (https://www.coincap.io), and WorldCoinIndex (https://worldcoinindex.com). At least, it's better something than nothing.

Thanks for your suggestion, btw. I'll see what I can do. :)
