Title: Best energy drink
Post by: bryant.coleman on April 07, 2014, 01:29:00 PM
I used to like Red Bull. But I have now shifted to Monster Energy, as I think Red Bull is way too expensive compared to the other brands. Monster is OK. Tastes good, and gives an energy kick which lasts 2-3 hours.

Chemicals are there even in Coca-cola. That doesn't prevent them being taken by billions of people, right?

All of these energy drinks are shits. Firstly, it`s caloric bomb so don`t be surprised when you get fat after drinking it regularly. Secondly they`re chemical and have bad influence for our body. And finally they have drastic influence for our heath, especially you can expect heart disease.

Cheers!

In my opinion -

If you want an energy without a lot of taurine:
I used to like Red Bull. But I have now shifted to Monster Energy, as I think Red Bull is way too expensive compared to the other brands. Monster is OK. Tastes good, and gives an energy kick which lasts 2-3 hours.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/e/ed/Monster_Energy_original_flavors_plus_Absolute_Zero.jpg/320px-Monster_Energy_original_flavors_plus_Absolute_Zero.jpg

And some of them taste really good :) some are not as good as those which are better ... :D

And if you want a really powerful shoot and you do not mind about your health too much.
Red Bull ... is the best! But .. I am not drinking that shit. This will change your liver into a donut ...

And 3rd option IMO - if you want a cheap energy drink :
(depends on a country but I suggest Tesco Energy Drink :) Or Sainsbury's Energy Drink, or some cheap market energy drinks :D
taurine is inside, just taste might be strange ... :P best serve cold. Very cold. As cold as possible.

Why you went out without sleep for 3 days? Don't blame energy drinks for the side-effects which were caused by the lack of sleep.

Maybe the real question should be not which energy drink is the best but which energy drink is less harmful than others... Because they all are full of chemistry and nothing else.

I disagree. I am yet to find any evidence to prove that energy drinks are more harmful to the human body than coffee or tea. They are not full of chemistry or physics... they contain herbal extracts, with vitamins.

Chewing coca leaves ... is not really good idea - but in some native tribes they are chewing them like a bubble gums :P
hehe :) Perhaps they suffer hypertension later but ... :) why to not chew when it is growing around you :P heheh..

I think there are safer way to gives your body an energy.

Sleep is probably the best, most definitely polyphasic sleep (sleeping in naps throughout the day).
But I'm assuming these are for bursts of energy or staying up late? Cold water (like cold as possible) does the job for me.

source burn hands down. not only did it taste amazing. like it wasn't a placebo joke like monster or redbull or full throttle, you could actually feel the effects, it was PACKED with absurd amounts of stimulants. it got bought out by coca cola though and became this

http://www.packagingdesignarchive.org/uploads/file/3866.jpeg

i haven't seen it around or tried it since then though so idk what they changed if anything. probably isnt the same drink at all anymore.

in my experience I'd have to say either Red Bull or Coffee.

Coffee isnt really an energy drink though

That is funny that you say that because I was under the impression that was exactly what is.  Not a modern energy drink but still an "energy drink" by definition in my opinion.

The definition of it being a beverage aka drink.  And it giving the person that consumes it energy via caffeine which commonly found in other "energy drinks"

Energy drinks have been out how long now 5-10 years? How long will it be before we start to see medical problems/symptoms Related to these drinks?   These can't be good for the body at all Especially the Kidneys Etc.

More like 20 years.

The first ever energy drink was Lucozade Energy, which started its production in 1929 (United Kingdom). Dr. Enuf was the first American energy drink (1949) and Lipovitan was the first in Japan (1962). Red Bull was first introduced in 1987.

I read somewhere that they put the same shit in every brand of energy drink. The only difference is they put 1% more taurine here and 2% caffeine  there. And manufacturing cost o 1 can of energy drink is like 5% of its final price.

Not much of a difference. But anyway... in a typical serving (16 fl oz or 473 ml), Monster gives us 160 mg of caffeine. That is almost 50% more than the same present in a serving of Drip Brewed Arabica Coffee.

Beer is a good beverage, and it acts as a relaxant. But a relaxant is exactly the opposite of an energy drink. It helps you to relax and calm down. It doesn't pump more energy to your body.

Energy drinks contain far less sugar, when compared to other carbonated beverages such as Pepsi and Coca Cola. A serving of monster energy contains about 25 grams of sugar. For comparison, a serving of smoothie normally contains about 35 to 40 grams of sugar. A 12 Oz can of Coke contains 39g of sugar.  ;D

You really drink half can if it says servings is half can?
So if coke put 10ml "serving" your going to drink 10ml coke every time you drink it?
And then coke would be super healthy because it have only 1,16g sugar? And "same" amount of Monster have a lot more!
Or you just trolling?

You mean that you prefer Red Bull Sugarfree? It has such a shitty taste. I had it once... and after tasting it I decided not to take it ever again.

And most importantly, it contains artificial sweeteners (Aspartame & Acesulfame K), which might be more harmful than the sugar itself.

Diet coke might prevent obesity and diabetes. But the Aspartame in it will increase the chances of cancer. I take carbonated drinks only 1-2 times a week. That too in small servings (250-300 ml). And I don't prefer the Diet variety.

Redbull Is the best "energy" drink.

Red Bull contains caffeine, taurine, glucuronolactone, B-group vitamins, sucrose, and glucose.[18] Red Bull Sugar Free is like Red Bull Energy Drink, but without sugar. The sugars sucrose and glucose have been replaced by the sweeteners acesulfame K and aspartame/sucralose.[19]

Please note that all these drinks aren't good for your health. Some ingredients might be harmfull.

However, I do sometimes drink energy drinks (when I've to skip a night for work and drive home afterwards, etcetera). Based on taste, I do like Red Bull more than (cheaper) alternatives, really. I'd prefer the lightblue Sugar Free type then.

That is why my only energy drink is beer, it's isotonic properties are the best after all.

So in your opinion which drink is safer? Almost all the drinks available in the market contains artificial flavors and preservatives. And in my opinion, a can of energy drink contains much less amount of synthetic chemicals, when compared those present in the same quantity of Coke.

Taste-wise Monster and Red Bull are almost equal. But since Red Bull is twice as expensive as Monster, I prefer the latter. Other factors (such as he content of Caffeine and Taurine) is almost same.

I think I will buy some when I'm in a supermarket again. I might leave a review then over here. Remind me otherwise!

I totally agree with you. But I don't think this energy drinks are useless; their caffeine is really usefull sometimes :). And that's what I use them for.

But I agree, you shouldn't just drink these drinks like you drink water, just for the thirst..

Experimented with caffeine binges a good bit. Started with energy drinks, moved to energy shots, then energy "squirts" (no, not diarrhea - name-brand, then generic caffeinated liquid "flavor enhancer).

In the end, gave all the goofy stuff up and went back to a pot of coffee per day. Easy to doctor, tame taste, no need to buy drinks at the store (though I'll admit to buying liquid creamer). Incidentally, creamer makes up, by leaps and bounds, most of my caloric intake (... when there's no fine cheese around, that is -- I'm a bit of a dairy freak). I haven't come up with a decent home-made alternative to it, yet... taking out the fat gives the coffee a "harsh" feeling going down the throat, like horribly sugary canned cake frosting (even if coffee has no sugar in it). Maybe should try lighter roasts.

Could be. Taste is subjective, eh? I wouldn't be surprised if Monster continually tried to make its formula similar to Red Bull's, as Red Bull was the first mover. This opinion was formed several years ago -- I wouldn't touch an energy drink now. :)

Here you can find a comparison between the most famous energy drinks with its caffeine contents:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_energy_drinks

"5 hours energy" has the most mg/L of caffeine, 3504, it's really alot...

On November 14, 2012, it was announced the federal government received reports of 13 deaths from the past four years that cited the possible involvement of 5-Hour Energy, according to Food and Drug Administration records.
The article explained that "The filing of an incident report with the F.D.A. does not mean that a product was responsible for a death or an injury or contributed in any way to it. Such reports can be fragmentary in nature and difficult to investigate.

To reach 3.5grams of caffeine, it'd take nearly 17x 5 hour energies. If you drank 17x monsters, you'd be in trouble as well.

I've consumed 2.5 grams of pure caffeine before, and didn't die. I did OD for sure, but I'm still alive.

I will not classify Gatorade as an energy drink. It is more of a mineral / fluid replenisher than an energy drink. It contains no added Caffeine or Taurine, unlike most of the energy drinks.

Sure, it is an energy drink. Not the same way that Red Bull or Monster are as they contain caffeine & Gatorade does not. But, Gatorade has a proper blend of sugar & salt (electrolytes) and water. This will hydrate your cells efficiently & therefore provide energy, just not the energy boost from caffeinated beverages.

You can consider it an energy, personally I don't consider it an energy drink. It has electrolytes (which does energize you), and a lot of carbohydrates. The carbohydrates also add energy, but they are mainly for your muscle development. It is a quick and low burst of energy to keep you alert and hydrated during high motion or calorie burning activities. If you drink it while not doing anything, it will make you hyper and it will cause an increase in weight because of all the carbohydrates.

Blue monster tastes like the food of the Gods. However, I was on a two Monster a day sip and savor for two straight years and my Thyroid tests went crazy.

Two monsters a day means close to 1,000 ml. That much Monster energy contains almost 320 mg of caffeine, in addition to other chemicals and enzymes. You are lucky that you didn't suffered any kidney failure even after taking so much caffeine.  >:(

May be... but the market share is definitely dropping.

I don't want to drink bull semen so i'd prefer to have energyshots with just caffeine, b-vitamin and some ingredient that helps body to absorb those. Amway sold those before and they were effective. I was driving my drunken friends from bar to home and if i felt tired i took just one shot and stood up for 4-5 hours needed to drive.

Now when Amway dropped that product from markets i have switched to Schokakola that is chocolate with caffeine. Just one piece equals to 2 cups of coffee. German soldiers used this product during WW2 when they wanted to travel long distances without sleeping much. Even when it has bit of soy hulls in it i think it's better than taurine.

There are better ways to extract and commercially produce Taurine nowadays.  ;D Anyway, one regular serving of Monster energy (8 fl oz or 236.5 ml) contain less than one gram of Taurine.  ;D

I used to like Red Bull. But I have now shifted to Monster Energy, as I think Red Bull is way too expensive compared to the other brands. Monster is OK. Tastes good, and gives an energy kick which lasts 2-3 hours.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/e/ed/Monster_Energy_original_flavors_plus_Absolute_Zero.jpg/320px-Monster_Energy_original_flavors_plus_Absolute_Zero.jpg

Well i tried monster couple of days ago, before that it was not available in Serbia.

I rly like it, its much better than redbull and alot cheeper. I love sweet energy drinks, like BURN, but monster is great.

Im still not sure about which one do i like most, green or red one. I think red one tastes bit better.

Yes. That is the advantage with Monster. The 16 fl oz (473 ml) can of Monster Energy is cheaper than the 8 fl oz (236 ml) can of Red Bull! Taste-wise and regarding the caffeine/taurine content, both drinks are similar.  ;D

Mostly just caffeine and sugar which gets you pumped up in the short term.

I just eat bananas when I need an instant boost.

Well I`m aware of fruits and stuff thats obvious lol. But I just figured if there was a healthy alternative energy drink, but I guess thats pretty impossible lol.

As for the water suggestion, I dont think that would be any good since they claim to recharge with a little bit of electrolytes in the water.

If I`m drinking energy drinks, I think 5hr drink would do for me.

Energy drinks 'can make children pile on pounds' because they're not active enough
By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Energy drinks have up to 14 times more caffeine than other soft drinks, study finds
Children given energy drinks could pile on the pounds because they are not active enough to burn off the extra calories, warn doctors.
They say energy drinks – which contain between 10 and 270 calories a serving – should never be given to children.
Instead they should be offered water to quench their thirst, and drink the recommended daily amount of fruit juice and low-fat milk with meals.
Caffeine loaded: Doctors are warning against giving children energy drinks which contain stimulants linked to diabetes, heart problems, behaviour problems and even early death   +1
Caffeine loaded: Doctors are warning against giving children energy drinks which contain stimulants linked to diabetes, heart problems, behaviour problems and even early death
A hidden problem with energy drinks is caffeine, which can reach toxic levels up to 14 times greater than in other soft drinks. The stimulant has been linked to seizures, diabetes, heart problems and behavioural disorders.
Children’s doctors are renewing warnings about energy drinks, and the potential harm from sports drinks, following an expert report by members of the American Academy of Pediatrics’ Committee on Nutrition.
Dr Holly Benjamin, a lead author of the report, and a doctor at the Comer Children’s Hospital, part of the University of Chicago, said: ‘For most children engaging in routine physical activity, plain water is best.’

Schoolboy, 10, who weighed 280lbs becomes the youngest person ever to have a gastric band op
She said most children’s activity levels are too low to burn off calorie-laden drinks that ‘children don’t need, and could contribute to obesity and tooth decay’. Dr Marcie Beth Schneider, joint lead author of the report who practises adolescent and paediatric medicine in Connecticut, said: ‘There is a lot of confusion about sports drinks and energy drinks and adolescents are often unaware of the differences.
‘Some kids are drinking energy drinks – containing large amounts of caffeine – when their goal is simply to rehydrate after exercise. This means they are ingesting large amounts of caffeine and other stimulants, which can be dangerous.
‘In many cases it can be hard to tell how much caffeine is in a product by looking at the label.
‘Some cans or bottles of energy drinks can have more than 500mg of caffeine, which is the equivalent of 14 cans of soda.’
'DANGER DRINKS'
The study published in the journal, Paediatrics, highlights these energy and sports drinks:
Red Bull
Monster
Rockstar
All Sport
Gatorade
Powerade
Among the energy brands highlighted in the report were Red Bull, Monster and Rockstar. Sports drinks included All Sport, Gatorade and Powerade.
In February, U.S. doctors warned of health risks from energy drinks and said they should be regulated ‘like alcohol and tobacco’.
Their report, published in the journal Pediatrics, also said: ‘Sports and energy drinks are being marketed to children and adolescents for a wide variety of inappropriate uses.
‘The caloric content of sports drinks is 10 to 70 calories per serving, and the caloric content of energy drinks ranges from 10 to 270 calories per serving.
‘In general, there is little need for carbohydrate-containing beverages other than the recommended daily intake of fruit juice and low-fat milk.
‘Routine ingestion of carbohydrate-containing sports drinks by children and adolescents should be avoided or restricted.
‘Intake can lead to excessive caloric consumption and an increased risk of obesity as well as dental erosion.’

We've got these in The Netherlands from quite a long time. It does contain a very very very small part of extract from hemp.  No, you won't experience any effects from this.

I think it's just a marketing plan for youngsters, who want to be "cool" with their energydrinks and think everything about Cannabis is "cool".   However, I've tried these too. The taste isn't bad, it's just one of the Red Bull alternatives..

Cannabis Energy Drink does not contain any THC or other psychoactive substances.
So I don't think it is illegal anywhere.

You can see from their faq:

IS CANNABIS ENERGY DRINK LEGAL?
Absolutely! Although in 2001 the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) announced a worldwide embargo on selling all foodstuffs based on hemp and oils, this decision was reversed in 2004 after a successful appeal to the ninth US Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco , CA. A product that contains a hemp seed extract must have a THC count of 10ppb (parts per billion) or less. This is such a small amount that it is considered non -measurable.

And

DOES CANNABIS ENERGY DRINK CONTAIN ANY ILLEGAL SUBSTANCES?

Absolutely not. If you were to translate ‘Cannabis Sativa’ from Latin you would learn that it loosely translates in something like "useful hemp." The confusion (and concern) can be attributed to the fact that hemp seeds / oil is derived from the Cannabis Sativa plant, which is linked to marihuana. Marihuana contains large amounts of THC. The amounts of THC in hemp seeds and oil are so small that they can be considered non- measurable.

It does contain "hemp extract" (I think that's the right word for it) according to the back of the can. I've got one in the fridge now, I might take a photo of it later on (as it's night over here and I'm not in the mood to leave my bedroom). Atleast, it Always has contained that.  But that's not THC indeed.

It's in Dutch, but I quote:
Quote
[Cannabis Energy Drink bevat voornamelijk natuurlijke ingrediënten zoals onder andere Hennep extract]

Translation: "Cannabis Energy Drink contains many natural ingredients like, for example, hemp extract.".  I don't think that's illegal. The Dutch website says that it's sold in United States, Netherlands, United Kingdom, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland and Bulgaria.

You might notice the difference between the different hemp plants; you've got hemp plants with really less THC where also ropes and clothes are made from (that's where I think this extract comes from), and cannabis like "Cannabis Indica" where you can get your weed (and hash) from.

I probably only drink 1 or 2 a year.  I try to avoid energy drinks as much as possible.  I used to drink Vodka Red Bulls back in the day, and they started to mess me up pretty bad.

Apparently I'm strange though, as my friends think it is the most disgusting energy drink out there, LOL!

Seriously, thats just messed up.  The police pretty much turn a blind eye to cannabis here.  As long as you're not being a dick about it and keep it on the down low, they don't care.  Anything under an ounce in Vancouver, and it's a simple ticket.

This energy drink looks great. Unfortunately this is not available in my place. What is the effect of this?

My current favorite right now is redbull.

Read my post(s) above yours. It doesn't bring any side effects because it contains a very small quantity of hemp extract (read: not cannabis, which contains THC). The effects are thus the same as all the other energy drinks. The taste is a bit different from Red Bull but not much. A bit like all the other Red Bull alternatives..

It has a serious promotion team though. For pictures check http://www.cannabisenergydrink.nl/fotos.  And oh, it's made (-> produced) in Austria.

Energy drinks with added hemp oil is the new trend!

Lol. I would love to try that one.
Red bull is not the best by my opinion, it only has best marketing.
Cannabis Energy Drink is nothing more than a caffeinated drink. The ingredient list is packed with common ingredient, which the company claims is common because the best ingredients are used over and over again by good companies.

They are selling  it at Colorado now.
They even have cannabis coffee at Colorado :P

But that drink we talked earlier is completely legal, everywhere.
As you can read from their faq.

I used to like Red Bull. But I have now shifted to Monster Energy, as I think Red Bull is way too expensive compared to the other brands. Monster is OK. Tastes good, and gives an energy kick which lasts 2-3 hours.

I don't know about Asian laws but I guess no. Or maybe if you get medical cannabis permission :D
You can always check silkroad or just wait till you go to Colorado or some other country where it is legal.

Is there a better healthy version for energy drinks?

I heard about some monavie energy drink but never tried it.

Yes, these natural energy boosts contain ingredients, such as green tea, have been used by different cultures around the world for thousands of years, while others have been put to use more recently, such as in the HNL’s Natural Green Energy Drink.

Well, to be honest according to my research ingredients to make one can of these popular energy drinks cost like  5/100 of final product price. Energy drinks are really cheap to produce and almost every one of them got the same components in them. I would say it is more expensive to have  cucumber, carrot or parsley than to make energy drink.

Of course it's cheap as hell to produce them. But as a customer you have to buy them at retail price. And I bet getting a cucumber, carrot and parsley is cheaper than one of those fancy shmancy expensive-as-ass energy drinks.

Your guess is 100% correct.
All energy drinks do is speed your heart rate up.
It a small version of a heart attack.

The other day i saw a boy around 10yrs of age with a Rockstar and his sister (who appeared to be around 8yrs old) with a Venti sized Starbucks coffee.
The Mom should have gotten a ticket for being an arse-hole

Wow, really? I mean that's nothing you let your kids have at that age. I don't think the coffee was decaf by any chance? But I guess it's the same when kids that age drink Coke all the time :-/

Haven't heard of that "Lucozade" drink yet. Is it a local drink in the country you live?

I drank quite a few Vodka Red Bull the lasts two weeks when I was on holiday. Too bad they cost about €7,- each time (for a small drink). However, this was in a great club.

I have tasted all, and red bull is by a little margin the best.

But it is too expensive for a person that drinks 24 a week (Like I do often). That is why I shifted to "clever energy drink" it is 0.29 € in austria shop "Billa"

What do you guys think of those "zero" and "sugar-free" energy drinks?

Sadly, they don't deliver the same taste and effect! :(

None they are gross.. i dumped out an unopened large Red-Bull today so i could get the 5 cents for the can.  :D

Those Energy drinks are fucking disgusting !

Besides you little kids should know the real answer.. Jolt Cola circa 1988
The tag line was.. All the sugar and twice the caffeine.

Anyway those herbal supplements ain't gonna do fuck all for ya.
And why pay high prices when a bottle of caffeine pills are cheap ?
Lemme guess that snazzy edgy flat brim hat wearing douchebag artwork is what it's about  :D

Vitamins is better than any energy drinks. With energy drinks you can get fast energy for 2 - 3 hours, with multi vitamins you can get energy for all day.  ;D

Those "energy drinks" are dangerous to your health.

The best energy drinks are coffee or Gatorad after you workout...

Get your blood flowing with exercise so you don't feel weak and sleepy all the time!

I've had a rock star some time ago. It was nice. I also had a few red bull's. They went down quite all right. Red Rain also did the magic it was meant to do. Haven't had a energy drink for some time now though. I'm trying natural energy drinks lately. A nice one I found is called Red Tea (Rooibos). Similar in health benefits to the herbal Green Tea but this one is Red instead. It's made from the plant called Aspalathus linearis and gives you a natural boost. You even get rooibos chai lattes. Good taste too.

All useful if you know when to stop. You just need to consciously use such drinks. Check out what they are made. There's all sorts of chemical additives. We need natural energy drink - coffee, guarana, ginseng.
