The binary compiles to litecoind, and there is NO config directory set - all config files try to write to the home directory of the user running it.

addnode=54.194.99.126 addnode=54.187.37.110 The wallet syncs fine and I solo mined with my wallet lots of coins. Maybe the confussion is because the file coin.conf is located inside the same folder where you extracted the compressed file.
