You know what would be nice... Seeing the dev pop in and say hi from time to time... I hope he's just busy putting the final touches on the coin but he could also be out spending his 2% premine.   We'll see what happens over the next couple days.

Title: Re: MGC Magneticoin SHA256 START 13.04.14
Post by: jc12345 on April 13, 2014, 12:43:01 PM
OP, you have to give out the wallet in advance but encrypted with a password eg. password protected ZIP file. This gives everyone the opportunity to download the wallet in advance. You then update OP with the password to open at 21:00. If you only post the wallet at 21:00, there will be many people trying to download at once and this will cause the server to be flooded and the wallet will take 40min to 1 hour to download with many unhappy miners. If you are serious about this coin and its launch, upload the encrypted wallet file several hours before the time.

Yes but to download takes a long time for some people and due to higher demand on the server can cause delays. It is not fair. You need to release an encrypted wallet beforehand and only release the password at 21:00. Unless of course you will allow an hour for people with slow connections to download the wallet before you turn the coin on.

Yes you can always mine with a GPU, keep in mind this is an SHA-256 coin not Scrypt, so in your miner like cgminer .bat file you'll not add --scrypt to the .bat file. If you're using an existing .bat file for a template, be sure to delete the --scrypt to make it run in sha256. Other miners like bfg or something will need you to add -ALGO=sha256d or --a sha256d to the file. I would strognly reccommend putting the GPUs in a pool rather than trying to solo though, because the asics will be going solo at first and putting the difficulty too high for a GPU to be effective solo mining :)

I must be missing something...

Mining with Asus R9 290, running it in cgminer 3.7.2...

It's telling me I'm mining at 713 MH/s...and yet, when I check the pool... It says zero.

Here's my cgminer conf

===================

setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100
setx GPU_OBJECTS_SYNC 1

cgminer -o stratum+tcp://mgc-pool.crypto-coinz.com:3333 -u xxxxxx -p xxxx -g 1 -w 256 --lookup-gap 2 --thread-concurrency 32765 -I 16 --temp-target 77 --auto-fan --gpu-engine 1000 --gpu-memclock 1500 --shaders 2560

===================

Anyone?

How do you solo with a bfl asic miner?

Solo is almost not worth it as there are many many orphan blocks. So many get solved but disappear out of the wallet ie. they dont make it from immature to balance.

Just put conf file in the roaming directory and restart the wallet. Just put your setup details in the conf file with your own network's IP addresses.

solomining sha256 coins really requires a local stratum server running and the daemon to be launched with a blocknotify script

How do one set that up? My solo is working but only just. I am getting blocks and about 20% accepted and 80% orphaned. Otherwise its OK.

I can't tell if its the wallets, network in general, or the pool backends, but I'm still getting massive rejects everywhere. I think it might be the wallets and / or the source code. I put the wallet on several machines to solo, and I'm getting just nonstop scrolling "not providing work fast enough", "caught up to new block", and "issuing work for old block" problems. I did hit an orphan block here or there, so I know the workers are working. Got some payout from a couple pools so I know that's working... So I dunno, gotta be some screwey wallets. Its probably why the pools are having problems too

That sounds like Win XP. Go to the C: drive, with any folder open, look up in the Tools menu, go to Folder Options, select "Show Hidden Files and Folders"

Then Go to C: >  Documents and Settings > Administrator > Application Data > Magneticoin

and the .conf goes in there :)

You can try https://mgc.hardcoreminers.com.
We still need some miners over here to even out the hashrate amongst pools, we're finding block though.

This pool is doing really good. I found some more blocks  ;D

For anyone having problems writing a conf file here is what I used. I know most here know how to write it but I am sure there is someone here that does not. It took me a couple of minutes to figure out. Most wallets are configured. Here it is:

I had a bad start with them on BonusCoin and made a mean accusation but this is my 3rd coin mining at launch with them and they may not be the first up or the first to fix a bug but a couple hours after launch they consistently produce more coin then any other pool for me.

Good job HCM!!! Keep up the good work.

This is all good, but can you tell us more about your plans? What is your vision for the coin? What work will the pre-mine be used for and how far are you with the work? I am a little bit uneasy that you want to rush to get to Mintpal while you have not given the community anything about the coin's plans or what it is about. So far we only know it is SHA256 algorithm, the specs of the coin and the name.

I can not understand why the GPU miners complain, the algo is SHA256 and you knew that.

Yes, difficulty quickly went up out of reach of GPUs.

Buy an USB ASIC miner with 1.6G hashrate each, it is cheap and save power.

Seriously... GPU miners have a new scrypt coin that comes out every other day.  Why mine a SHA coin?

Instead of asking to vote for the exchanges can you please answer the questions regarding the vision of the coin? People might just think that you are just interested to get on the exchange to dump the pre-mine you kept.

Had a ticket yesterday with a user asking why he can't spend his coins yet.

I noticed the block time is quite long, so please remember, we currently require 3 confirmations before your balance will be spendable on www.cryptoaltex.com

I could possibly move this to 2 confirmations but please be patient while your coins confirm.

Yet again, after several messages, several posts in the thread with no reply, please give us more information on the fundamentals of the coin and the future plans, what pre-mine will be used for and preferably the pre-mine public address so that we can see what you do with the pre-mine coins. These things will give much more value to the coin and instil confidence.  Typing replies to the information required will take much less time than to create a fancy Quicktime video of the MGC logo on a website, which adds no value at all. Fancy websites do not add value to coins.

The price is ridiculous, I have checked the pool, 1T hashrate can mine 40,000 coins one day, but the price is 10 sat.

How can the DEV let this happen? No buying support, who is mining it? This coin will be dead.

It's not the dev job to control the price. Not that this dev would even be able to do something even easier.

But do the words :free market" ring a bell? The coin is worth how much people are willing to spend on acquiring it.

Yes, but this is your coin, you need to help it growing up. Just sit there and see people coming to mine and buy? No way. A lot of people know how to make a coin now. Copy and paste, a new coin is borned.

I'm cleaning out the hard drive, and thought I would just post this here.  It is a link to the MGC blockchain through block 22491, just for historical purposes. :)

https://mega.co.nz/#!4QQDlRQb!___endG9BJdM4j5lbMij59mWQQWzVn3Kmv42oX_DMQE (https://mega.co.nz/#!4QQDlRQb!___endG9BJdM4j5lbMij59mWQQWzVn3Kmv42oX_DMQE)

This coin got stuck at on a high difficulty block, above 1 million. Without KGW or block difficulty adjustments, it was too much work for miners to hash through it.

I was surprised that my MGC client found at peer today at 67.231.63.40.
