Title: Coinding - A fun intro into the bitcoin world!
Post by: raaawr on April 14, 2014, 10:09:21 PM
Hi Everyone!

Our team just launched Coinding, a bitcoin mobile game to help spread awareness and use of the currency, and to help all the newbies dip their toes in the water without risk. We're currently in an open beta in 3 canadian cities: Montreal, Vancouver and Toronto.

Afterwards it will be rolled out in a series of interactive events for free in dozens of different major cities around the world, before eventually being released worldwide.
More features will be added like allowing you to vote in-game for shops nearby that you wish would accept bitcoins, and they'll get contacted automatically so that you can hopefully buy your goodies with btc from that place the next time you go!

The project is an initiative to spread awareness and use of the cryptocurrency in a cool way around the world.

Well, good idea to create bitcoin related games, but i can not see how you will be able to explain kids in range od 10-15 (which are targeted, at least based on the pictures) what bitcoin is and what economy is and so on. For me (almost master in finance) it was mind blowing to get it at first, i can not imagine the kids face when he/she will check video explaining that bitcoin is mined, and that network of miners are actualy the ones that are sustaining it and so on...

Hello, not very much activity here. I'm afraid bumping up this is necessary.

I have installed the app yesterday on a low-end android device. I am negatively impressed by the huge amount of memory required to install the app. Apparently, having 25MiB of free memory is a problem on low end and it required me to go through hoops to get it to install.

The instructions were not quite clear. The login screen might be ok for a native English user but something gets lost in translation I'm afraid: "sign in" and "sign up" doesn't make much difference to most here.
I guess this "energy" thing is required to avoid an user picking up everything in a single go. This sounds as a good idea in gameplay theory but it's just silly in practice. Besides I don't know how much time energy takes to regen, take notice people buying high-end will likely have more devices available (effectively multiplying N times). By contrast, in all my family (low-end users), we have 1 low-end device.

I am going to try it today going in a not-so-near city over here. I'm not expecting to turn a profit out of this but I seriously hope I'll be able to at least pay me an ice cream.

I am pretty worried the treasures seem to be measured in µBTC. If a treasure is 1000µBTC then at current price this is in the order of half an EUR. This cannot be possibly real. I can anticipate if the prize is that low, there will be bad, bad consequences in the perception of crypto here.
Mix this with the "energy" ruleset and the picture gets not very pretty.

I'll keep you posted.

Update: it failed to lock the GPS, so I couldn't even get an idea of how this is supposed to work.
I'm fairly disappointed. It seems like users also had a discussion about this on reddit.

This looks interesting.
To me at least, the name suggests something to do with lending/funding. Was quite surprised to learn that it is a game. If it doesn't catch on, I'm kinda sure that the domain can be sold for good money.

I wish you best of luck with Coinding! I'd try it out but I don't have an Android phone.

So this doesn't work on wifi-only devices despite the Google Play Store allowing specific devices to be app-blocked, including mine on many occasions? I stood right on top of the BTC icon and nothing happened (except a reboot when I tried to take a screenshot).
