Title: Re: New HD7970 Radeon on sale at NewEgg Post by: ssateneth on January 09, 2012, 08:19:01 AM I hope a miner picked them up so we can see what they -really- do with proper dedicated miner settings (reduced memory speed, worksize/vectors, etc)
Title: Re: New HD7970 Radeon on sale at NewEgg Post by: goxed on January 09, 2012, 08:57:17 AM miner Already at it https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=56630.0 Title: Re: New HD7970 Radeon on sale at NewEgg Post by: tonto on January 09, 2012, 08:05:22 PM 3 cards avl. here http://www.erwincomp.com/radeon-hd7970-3gb-gddr5-xfx-fx-797a-tnfc.html it's said 3 remaining for like the past 5 hours, and my friend just ordered one and still says 3 available. Something ain't right. Title: Re: New HD7970 Radeon on sale at NewEgg Post by: jjiimm_64 on January 09, 2012, 08:09:01 PM I thought about getting one,, but at that price I can get 2 5970's (almost)
2x5970 gets 1400 Mh at about 500 watts. IF 7970 gets 700Mhash at 250watts that would make them equal mh/j but not equal mh/$ edit: rough estimates of course.. Title: Re: New HD7970 Radeon on sale at NewEgg Post by: film2240 on January 09, 2012, 08:17:18 PM The price of HD7970s is really high in the UK at the moment.Starting off from £416 and above (from a reputable site.Poor sites quote a really low price but then don't have the product to back it up or you get scammed out of money for something that doesn't exist on those sites.)
What kind of performance and power use can I expect from this card for mining? What about overclockability and other mods (overvolting,e.t.c)? Is there a more optimised version of GUIMiner now that I can use on my PC? My HD6950 uses about 220W more (measured from wall) when mining at just over 400MHashs (403MHashs to be exact) with unlocked shaders. Is that good for a HD6950? ... 800Mh from a 5970? In my experience the average 5970 gets about 820-840MHz core at stock V -> about 365-380Mh/s/core. With one 80+ gold and one 80+ bronze 1kW PSU, my quad rigs were ~1240W at the plug, with 2 80+ gold units a hair under 1200W. At 1125mV core and again clocked to max stable... slightly north of 810Mh/card average, while hash/J went from 2.57 to 2.32 and primary GPU VDDC slaves got uncomfortably hot. Imo if you got the space, 5850 stays king. High hash/$, decent hash/J, low enough power density to make cooling a relatively minor issue. That said, I'll be getting a 7970 anyways. Why? SHINY! ;D Title: Re: New HD7970 Radeon on sale at NewEgg Post by: fred0 on January 09, 2012, 11:45:12 PM Hurry up, more in stock!
Title: Re: New HD7970 Radeon on sale at NewEgg Post by: DeathAndTaxes on January 09, 2012, 11:52:17 PM 2x5970s will hit closer to 1600-1700 MH/s. Not stable 24/7 on air cooling without some serious overvolting and then your MH/W goes all to shit. 825 to 830 Mhz is pushing 5970 pretty far on stock voltage and that nets you about 730 to 750 MH/s depending on miner and settings. I've found mine to be stable 24/7 on air (81C on core #2). That's at 890/200 MHz @ 1139mV -- I don't remember what stock voltage is. Each core puts down around 406 MH/s and on my single-5970 mining/gaming box, and with a 6-core Phenom II it draws about 460W at the plug. I can usually knock that down to about 430-440W by disabling some cores, but I'm too lazy since I switch between mining and gaming so often :P Title: Re: New HD7970 Radeon on sale at NewEgg Post by: DeathAndTaxes on January 10, 2012, 05:42:54 PM Not stable 24/7 on air cooling without some serious overvolting and then your MH/W goes all to shit. 825 to 830 Mhz is pushing 5970 pretty far on stock voltage and that nets you about 730 to 750 MH/s depending on miner and settings. Stock is 1.05V You are running an 8.4% overvolt. You are getting about 9% increase in hashing for a roughly 28% increase in power consumption. Most wouldn't consider that a good trade. 2250 MH on 870W vs 406MH on 430W (used your optimistic value) Title: Re: New HD7970 Radeon on sale at NewEgg Post by: Mousepotato on January 11, 2012, 01:20:03 AM Exactly. I'm still getting about 367-368 MH/s per core too. Edit: I disabled 5 of my 6 cores and bumped it up to 810MHz now I'm down to 335-340W @ 370 MH/s per core. That's down from about 470W @ 406-410 MH/s per core! |
