Title: Which of your banks is cool?
Post by: CryptoPanda on April 17, 2014, 04:42:30 AM
I'm looking for a bank with adequate fees, modern internet banking and everything and opening accounts to non-residents (but EU citizens)
Which are the cool kids in the Netherlands?

Preferably they have no monthly fee for just "keeping" my account, since that's stupid.

for consumers or businesses?

I recommend ING for businesses, they are very easy to open an account with.

I recommend ING as well.

All banks in The Netherlands have a 'monthly fee for just "keeping" your account'. However, ING is one of the cheapest.
They charge €1,45 per month. This includes a debit card, access to internet/mobile banking and within the entire eurozone free ATM withdraws, free paying with your debit card and free wire transfers.

I'm not sure if ING (and Dutch banks in general) allows non-residents to open an account. You can call ING's customer support at +31 20 22 888 88 and ask them.

That sounds pretty good!
You don't pay extra for the card or for enabling online banking?
Do you have to pay for some kind of digital signature or auth device for the online banking?

ING will send you a paper with 100 tan-codes on it, you can make 100 transactions after it you'll have to request a new paper. Note: ING also offers to send the tan-code by sms

ABN sends an auth device, free of charge.

ING or Rabobank for daily banking. If you want to buy stocks and such you really need to have a look at DeGiro.nl, cheapest fees in The Netherlands.

You can try contacting abn here.
https://www.abnamro.nl/en/personal/payments/open-an-account/index.html

It seems ING is a little less friendly for international-clients by not providing an english website for everything. But you could try contacting here:

The first one seems to be good fit for non-residents.
Are they big one in Holland?

Don't go with rabobank, they are hostile to bitcoin.

Ok that's good to know! I don't want to support such banks.
Is there any bank that openly supports bitcoin in the Netherlands already?
Kinda like Fidor bank in Germany? :)

No bank supports Bitcoin at the moment, but it seems that ING is quite open to it. Never had any problems with them. ;)

ASN Bank (or parent company SNS Bank) seems to be cool with Bitcoins too. Students and youngsters (25 years or younger) pay no fees for common use. (transactions, keeping account, identifier, PIN debit card) ING Bank is second best for consumers imho. However, the fees for business accounts of ING Bank are lower than those of ASN business accounts, and the ING Bank has a 'Starterpakket' for business accounts, using this offer, most business services are free during the first year.
Good luck!

I have transferred quite a bit between my account and local bitcoin companies in the past few months and have gotten no notification from them so far.
