Title: Spoiler Tags
Post by: caffeinewriter on April 25, 2014, 12:02:42 PM
A year and a half ago, I made a suggestion (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=119806.0) to include spoiler tags as a BBCode ([spoiler][/spoiler] or, a shorter version, [sp][/sp]).

It's a small inclusion that has the potentially to drastically improve the User Experience. It gives posters the option to hide large images and wall-of-text style posts in manageable blocks, or to hide disproportionately large images/a number of images inside of an expandable block. This also will give it the opportunity to hide actual spoilers.

Lazy loading could also be incorporated to help users on slower connections load the page before the content in spoiler tags, which could help speed up posts which use it. However, lazy loading is hardly a core feature, but may be something that could either be a plugin, or incorporated into core after a stable platform has been created.

Examples:

This sounds like a good idea. Luckily I'm working on the BBCode editor right now so I'll try and see if I can get this in there.

This is a feature of almost every other Forum I visit. Please, add this to the new software.

Yup. Think I made a thread in Meta requesting this a while back now. Definitely a good idea for various reasons.

It goes without saying that there is usefulness for such an option to be available to users. Of course, whether users choose to exercise this feature is another matter, but I for one would find it useful in Off-Topic in particular.
