I'm looking to replace the stock fan on my S1 for something hopefully a bit quieter, so I'm looking at getting a couple of corsair fans to do push/pull cooling,  mainly as they are easily available here in the UK on fleabay.

Question is would either the SP or AF models be the best, or what quiet fan is tried and tested?

leave the stock one in it really moves a lot of air.  but if it slows down to 1200 rpm it is not that loud.  just add a good  second fan.

I used pipe cleaners to attach the second one.  notice the spacers used to prevent fan blades from rubbing

Now I used  really fast and loud fans and got great numbers

Seriously though, if you're going to change it out I wouldn't suggest replacing it with anything less than what it's shipped with (>110CFM >3k RPM). Remember summer is coming.

Personally I found the fans shipped with most of my miners were either worn out or cheap/noisy. When replaced with good quality equivalents the noise generated was more of a high volume 'white noise' than a squeal, whine, or other aggravating resonance. I replaced the fans on several of my miners with NMB 4715KL and have been very happy with them.

Thanks for the advice, much appreciated, I'll keep the stock fan on and add an exhaust fan.

I really need to look at moving my miners to a cooler part of the house as they are in the conservatory atm, which was fine when it was cold, but now it's getting warmer things will get a tad toasty soon (well as toasty as it get in the UK).  :)

 a  pack of 25 for 1 dollar at Joannes craft shop .  I use really powerful loud  thick (38mm) fans since mine run in the garage.

my gear is very cool. even with my attached garage at 80 f.

i think u should put some heat sinks on those vrms ..

i am going to buy some those fans u mention for exhaust ..

i found that if i take two s1's and turn them sideways stacked they cool better as more airflow across the heat sinks ..

aztecminer the vrms are a bit bigger I may not have a decent heatsink for them.

My shelving won't let me stack them so I have 3 side by side.

I then use the psu on the shelf above.

I have a photo but it is late and I am tired.

Why would you cut up the fan connector and connect the cables into the power directly instead of using the fan header shown in your picture? since you have a 3 prong fan and not a 4 pin PWM fan, it should run at 100% just the same as what you did....
