Unbelievable! How did this piece of scum got his medical degree? Remember he is 65 years old with decades of medical practice. He might have assaulted thousands of patients over this period.

I imagine he got his degree the same way all other doctors get theirs. There's no way to really verify whether someone is a pervert or sexual deviant and is going to take advantage or his position, but deviancy / perversions can easily develop over time and they seem to have only happened in the last four years of his career according to the article. What I don't understand is he's only an anaesthetist, so where were the surgeons and nurses during his abuse?

I doubt that. Bad things does not happen to rich people when they go to jail. They can easily bribe the officers to get safe. On the other hand, such experiences are reserved for the less well-off.

Well it's not sometimes just about sex, but about the control, and obviously this was just how he got his kicks. Having regular consensual sex probably wouldn’t do anything for him. Most other rapists are the same and are all about the power and control they have over someone and get their kicks from that as opposed to just actual 'normal' sex which tends to not excite them much.

Why is it that some cyber criminals have gotten a century to life, and he only got a decade for sexual assault? Did he not 'assault' them good enough for the law's taste? If you do a petty crime, you can get up to ten years. Sexual assault isn't a petty crime.

I understand Dailymail fucks up a lot of stories, but this seems impossible to fuck up.

It's sad but there's always going to be people who abuse their power in care wether doctors teachers nurses carers police etc. I'm sure there's lots more who never get caught or face justice either.

How did an anaesthetist manage to be alone with the patients? No one ever puts a patient to sleep on their own! Where were the other members of staff? Where were the nurses?

I think it will be a good idea to make mental checkups mandatory for everyone working in the medical services. Otherwise, incidents such as these will continue unabated, eroding the patient confidence.

I concur.  Of course, we should probably start with mental checkups for TSA personnel.  And of course law enforcement.  And school teachers, of course.  No, I tell you what....let's start with...

There's not exactly a blood test you can take which determines if you're 'mentally ill' or not. There's no ammount of screening that will ever stop this sort of stuff, it's just something we have to deal with and trust somebody isn't going to do. It's actually rare that it happens and people usually get caught eventually, but you're never going to eradicate it.

Then have closed circuit cameras in the operation theaters. Incidents such as this one cannot be allowed to happen frequently. Something should be done against it. Punishing the culprit with just a few years in jail is not going to do any good.

Then you're going to have the person watching the operation in his little security room jacking off to his hearts content and putting the videos online when he gets home. Would you want yourself being filmed lying naked on an operating table? Incidents like this very rarely happen as there's usually multiple people in the room, but you're never going to eradicate it 100%. What would you suggest as an alternative punishment? I think jailtime and attenpted rehabilitation in there is all we really can do as a society.

May be the video could be pixellated before it is shown to the security officer? Also there are several ways to prevent the data from being copied. Still.. none of the measures are 100% risk-free.

Who pixilates it? Another pervert in another room?  ;D There are plenty of ways to prevent people from ripping dvds or pirating films from the cinema, but they're obviously not that effective.

I think security cameras to prevent this sort of behavior will be useful and as far as the perverts recording it and spreading it all over the internet question, It is already happening, a simple search will reveal tonnes of videos of ladies on gyno tables recorded by either the doctor secretly or the assistants.

And a big watermark on the security camera video might be useful for stopping that, a video which goes viral will have that watermark and the doctors and people handing that security camera can be questioned and arrested if something like that should happen.
