Title: Bitcoin Monopolies - Exchanges, News Services, Mining Pools, Dir List Sites, ...
Post by: BitcoinPorn on January 16, 2012, 09:14:12 PM
Is there a listing of people or groups of people that have investments in Bitcoin in multiple fields.   We are an unregulated decentralized entity here, so I know there is no regulation for such thing, and there is definitely nothing wrong with a person wanting to invest fully in Bitcoin, so then of course investing in many aspects of it only seems natural for overall growth of just Bitcoin itself.  However, I still would like to know if there is a list out there of this.  For example, off the top of my head,

the founder (Flexcoin) https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=21002 runs with Flexcoin, the Bitcoin Bank http://www.flexcoin.com/
also runs with http://www.tribbleagency.com/

genjix https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1931 runs with Intersango, https://intersango.com/
He also runs with https://bitcoinmedia.com

I already forget what Mt Gox has bought, I remember MtGoxLive of course, there was Bitomat, but I thought there were others too.

I always kind of noticed the exchanges stuff, but I was just wondering if there is anyone from the Mining Pools that is involved in other facets of Bitcoin?   Same with directory listing sites?   If you own a Bitcoin store, are you also involved in something else completely?

MtGox (Tibanne) also runs the wiki.

MtGox (Tibanne) also runs the wiki.

and hosts bitcointalk.

Speaking of bitcointalk, theymos administers the forum, the subreddit and blockexplorer.com

EDIT: maybe not very related, but Tibanne also owns KalyHost and AutoVPS , which are VPS services that accept bitcoin as a payment option

genjix and phantomcircuit are both from https://bitcoinconsultancy.com/ (Which is a development house)

Projects from that group:
https://intersango.com/
http://bitcoinmedia.com/
http://bitgroups.org/ (European Bitcoin Conference)
http://vibanko.com/
libbitcoin: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=30646.0
subvertx: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=50721.0
GLBSE client: https://gitorious.org/+bitcoin-consultancy-dev/black-market/black-market-client

We as a group do lots of experimental projects. There are some failed experiments which aren't public. The successful ones make it to an incubator and turn public (Intersango, ViBanko). We also do various projects for clients (doing an alternate chain now for a person) and then use that money to fund more people to work on bitcoin projects. At the moment we are a fulltime team of 5 self-employed via Bitcoin Consultancy: finance person, lawyer and developers.

Some older projects:
- Wrote most of the bitcoin wiki
- Freecoin: http://gitorious.org/freecoin
- Spesmilo: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Spesmilo
- Britcoin (old UK exchange. Source: http://gitorious.org/intersango )
- PostEconomy, which was a site for putting bounties and funding developers to work on bitcoin (in some ways the precursor to our group :))

Hi,
I run Ozcoin Pooled Mining Pty Ltd, we have a Bitcoin mining pool and a Litecoin mining pool. I am supported in this by a team of 6 coders.

I am also a director of WeExchange Australia Pty Ltd, a new Bitcoin exchange currently in live testing. Currently we have a US LLC run by our other director and the Australian Pty Ltd overseen by me. We are supported by a small team of part time coders currently.

Couple of other projects I am exploring - I mean why wouldn't you ;)

In this crazy Bitcoin "world", dominated by people operating behind anonymous nicks and throw away email I think threads like this are essential.

Good work :)

Glad to see the replies, definitely a few things I didn't know and will be checking out.

One big one I forgot, the great Vladimir (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=3380) who started the Bitcoin Forums (https://bitcoin.org.uk/forums/), also runs with Vladimir's Bitcoin Information Security Consulting Service (https://bitcoin.org.uk/forums/topic/304-getting-started-or-what-do-to-before-you-get-your-bitcoin-website-online/).  I want to say there is a mining pool as well, but I am not sure if that is still up.

Another big one, the great Matthew N Write https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=24749 of Bittalk.Tv http://BitTalk.TV , tune into it daily ;) also runs with DialCoin https://dialcoin.com/, Bitcoins in 30 seconds, worldwide.  I just wanted to give a quick shoutout to Matt for having two taglines that are not necessarily catchy, but way memorable, as I remembered both those lines right after thinking of the sites they are part of without having to look it up.

DialCoin is https://dialcoin.com/images/bitcoinica.pngand features https://dialcoin.com/images/vladimir_secure_small.png seal.

Couple of other projects I am exploring - I mean why wouldn't you ;)

I know I did get into multiple things when I had the time, hard not to love and want to make better so many facets of Bitcoin, if I had more time I think I would double genjix' list lol
