Title: The Decentralized Union - New Crypto Foundation
Post by: cryptopaths on May 12, 2014, 05:02:11 PM
Of course one main goal of the Decentralized union will be to further Crypto.

Unlike the Bitcoin Foundation I strongly believe The Decentralized Union should focus on staying decentralized and giving no one person great/complete control over operations including myself.

Also the "donations" required to be in the Bitcoin foundation trouble me greatly. This is an obvious attempt to profit off of an organization that should be furthering crypto.

Donating shouldn't be the main/only way to get in a foundation.

The Decentralized Union will put a higher priority on those that have actually contributed something innovative to the crypto community such as new protocols, services, features etc.

So I'm asking you the Crypto community what you would like to see the Decentralized Union accomplish what should be some goals?

I hope something like this catches on eventually, because frankly this forum could be much better. Unfortunately up to now, nobody has pushed this. It takes some resources to get things done, because everyone who is good is busy making money on their own. I see this issue being connected with bitcointalk, and the thread structure it uses. The bulletin board is really old tech, and Bitcoiners are not interested in Alt-Coins. At same time most coins are boring and flood the forum with noise. What is noise of course is subjective. And the various communities build their own things. How the communities relate is going to be important. The various coin-communities will learn from each other and we already seeing a lot of this happening in a form of healthy open competition.

Minimal requirements for a better crypto foundation/forum:

* open source forum software (discourse, nodeBB, ...) with Bitcoin integration (escrow for IPO's)
* a list of coins with some ranking/voting/etc
* discussions cleanly separated
* good and trustworthy administration

The use of escrow requires an uncomfortable amount of trust in one 3rd party. Something like a more complex multi-sig would be much more in line with the decentralized nature.
