Maybe it helps it run more smoothly. Otherwise I like it. I don't see it as a major improvement, besides the in-client encryption. However, if someone wanted to steal your coins, couldn't they bypass the encryption and go straight for the wallet.dat?

The network syncs are slow because the client has to verify every block and its transactions. This is not a Mac-only thing.However, if someone wanted to steal your coins, couldn't they bypass the encryption and go straight for the wallet.dat? The wallet itself is encrypted.
