Title: US DOLLAR HACKED!! eBay hacked, requests all users change passwords

eBay contacted CNET after this story was initially published, saying it discovered "recently" that it was a victim of "a cyber attack on our corporate information network, which compromised a database containing eBay user passwords." The company's spokesperson told CNET there is "no evidence that any financial information was accessed or compromised."

The statement follows an odd stream of events this morning when eBay-owned PayPal posted a blog entitled "eBay, Inc. to Ask All eBay users to Change Passwords." The blog post included nothing but the title, but quickly hit the Web after it was retweeted dozens of times. The blog post was then taken down from PayPal's site, causing even more confusion for users of the online auction house.

eBay has since posted information about the hack on it's official blog. The company will ask all users to change their passwords starting later on Wednesday.

The database, which eBay said was compromised in late February and early March, held eBay customer's names, encrypted passwords, email addresses, physical addresses, phone numbers, and dates of birth. However, the company says users' financial information was not accessed.

Financial information was not accessed but practically everything else was. I guess it's just another reminder to make sure you have quite a few different passwords, but remembering them all can become tricky.

Oh is trust gone now? hmm

It's still there. Check the profile, and Donators can change their own names.

Im sure tradefortress worked out something not to ban his account with the stolen bitcoins.  Why would he still be here all happy about?  why no one has gone after him for stealing?

It looks like you'd be recommended to change it, and also any other place you used the same password. Can't be too careful if coins are involved.

So one of the most important advantages of Ebay is no longer relevant (greater security). I just hope that the credit card data which we enter or making the purchases are not leaked.

Ebay should only store a one way hash of CC numbers and passwords.

Should only store the last 4 digits of CC as a number in the data base.

But then again, they might have fucked up?

US Dollar hacked? LOL!  Apparently it was only personal info that was leaked, not credit card or bank info, even though, I'd keep a close eye on my credit statements.  Hell, call your credit card company and get them to issue another card.  Little bit of hassle, but it beats the bigger hassle if they run up the card.

Change of password should be enough.  Sucks though.  Coming up with a unique password for EVERY site blows! Can't keep all of them to memory so now i have to write them down.
