Title: Bitcoin jobs
Post by: Cred on May 28, 2014, 06:25:32 PM
Does anyone have any source of interest in jobs involving Bitcoin?

I have mentioned developing with bitcoin APIs on my CV/resume and uploaded it to jobs websites just to glean whether there is any interesting development going on in private companies, maybe even banks.

So far, after a month, I've not had any calls or emails mentioning it. It's not much of a signal but it's not a particularly good sign. A single enquiry would make me much more positive about the prospects for wider adoption.

Has anyone tried the same and had any interest?

banks themselves wont touch bitcoin. they are contracted to deal with fiat.

you will maybe if lucky get some head hunting company linked to private investment companies that may come across your CV. but if you lack forex experience they will not really have you at the top of the list.

your best bet is to make a couple websites to 'show off' your skills and then send an email to businesses just getting into bitcoin that may want coders. after all an API is simple to achieve even high school students do these as part of their IT grade. so its not really a big thing on a C.V

so try to be more impressive then an average teenager that can copy and paste code already available. make some services to show off your skills.

remember that right now the jobs market has limited jobs but alot of unemployment. so private companies will receive many many C.V's. i know of a few in a small town that gets 500 applications per role advertised. so there is most of the time, no need for companies to seek out potential employee's on CV websites. when its the potential employee's that seek out companies.

so dont be lazy and hope someone will find you. instead show yorself off and get in companies faces, really show them they need you. EG look on some exchange websites and see a feature they are missing and make a clone of the site with the feature included.

I do have some FX experience working for banks but I'm not really looking to work with bitcoin myself TBH. I just wondered how much activity there is and if I'd pop up in any database search from head hunters and get included in one of their automated emails. A bit like scouring patent applications for clues as to whether to buys shares in Apple/Google.

I dont understand your approach.  If a bank or whoever, wants BTC skills, they will go to market and advertise it.  You taylor your CV to the position you're applying for.

BTC apis are just REST / Json, which nearly every developer has experience with.

...A single enquiry would make me much more positive about the prospects for wider adoption....

There was recently a Bitcoin job fair (http://www.coindesk.com/employment-networking-opportunities-abound-at-bitcoin-job-fair) with "more than 400 attendees and 34 startups".
That strong of a showing sounds like a healthy reason to be positive about wider adoption.

I haven't seen a job posted in my area for Bitcoins, unfortunately.

I have not seen 1 employment offer in my area available for BTC either.   I haven't had to look for work in awhile though.   We could call bitcoin jobs... BJs...haha

Bitcoin needs to upgrade it's image, but we also should be free to have fun.
I prefer jobs that don't blow.  :D

Is that a warm up for calling the Bitcoin Foundation a bunch of BF'ers?  :o

That's cool since I didn't know that there were job fairs now in Bitcoin
I would personally thing a Bitcoin job board would help to increase interest in Bitcoin related industries
Beyond the forums thread.
That said I think at this stage most jobs are either freelance coding or writing articles and transcribing than in sales and marketing
(For now)
Since we are seeing a lot of new startups and established companies like circle as the article pointed out developing the Bitcoin infrastructure.

not really a job, but selling your signature can make some good money on the side, especially if you are a forum regular anyway

I think this is a market where you can make your own company and create these jobs presently.
Although perhaps we should say Bitcoin Careers beats a BJ :)

Now onto a sort of tangent since its relating to the above posts
Thinking about it whatever the name of the organization it probably has a fun pseudonym just because bitcoin starts with a B
Bitcoin Society = BS
Bitcoin Foundation (Ltd)= BF (L)
Bitcoin Jobs = BJ's

___
I guess the good ones would end with an A
BA
Bullet/Gun Society for Bitcoin
BB
Bitcoin Church of Satoshi
BC

Etc.
___

Finding a job with a monthly wage paid in bitcoin would be pretty hard, I think.
But there are enough people here earning a good living doing freelance work for Bitcoin.

So if that's an option for you, I would certainly look into it.
You will have to promote yourself and your skills of course.
