Thought it would cool to get peoples experiences with different bitcoin ATMs.

So far I have used the Robocoin ATM in Vancouver and found it to be a quick process but a few misleading aspects about it.

1. They claim a limit of $3K in the ATM but it is actually $500
- They do bigger transactions in the office located in the same coffee shop,but I am sure it involves grabbing a crap load of information about you.
2. The fees are higher than 1% and they hide that in the price of the bitcoin.
So I think you could find cheaper rates through localbitcoin if you have the time.

Over all it was fast to use and easy to access. Will try the other 2(think there is 2 more) next week.

I have seen some American ones are pretty hard to use and want so much information.

A lot of people have been getting scammed at localbitcoin (thankfully not me) and the sellers there add their fees just like the ATMs. I personally haven't had the oportunity to use a BTC ATM but when they spring up around here i'll give better input.

Yes, i think the fees are nothing to worry about, if you can get bitcoins fast and 100 percent secure without the risk of being scammed, i would pay any fees and also atms is the best wat to adquire bitcoins for newbies

Wait... is Robocoin the one that needs your government ID or something, your hand print, and your face? ;D
If so, haha no I have never used that one, and never will until they change the requirements for trading there :-/

Use Lamassu a few times before.
Based on my experiences:
1) It is user friendly
2) It takes a very short time
3) It is only one way(Buying only), I think a 2 way(Buy and sell) version is coming soon.
4) The interface is quite interesting.

Was this machine you used in the US?

or acts like an ATM bitcoin service.

I heard there is also a lamassu site in Vancouver that I will check out as well,being able to withdraw would be a plus.

I think that is only in the USA that they are set up that way,do not hold me to that. This ATM had no hand scan and no Id being exchanged. Unless it took a photo I was unaware of it really did not show any signs of tracking.
Which also confuses me as to how they know that I have hit my $500 limit. If I created a few accounts they would show up as different people taking money out. I also do not know if the atm gives me money when I sell or I have to step into the office.

I really do not want the government knowing anything about my transactions due to having run ins with them before over stupid petty stuff and them going rambo on me about it. People really walk with blinders till the government starts sniffing around,my eyes are open to that now. >:(

End of the day I like to be able to withdraw with out any of this know your client b.s and I have not talked to the guys that run this robocoin enough to know how tight they are with these rules. Hopefully they are not so tight.

Honestly these seem to be popping up left and right and think competition will get stiff and only help us customers.
The ones that have been in the game early have not really done anything to make them stand out in my head.

Would think it all depends on the State,think I read robocoin opened up one in Vegas recently.

Damn, but vegas is so far away from me.. just to get bitcoin lol.

I guess I`ll just have to wait like everyone else.

I like the thought of going with the cash and getting btc right on the spot though.. :P

But it looks like they have high fees (5%?) that would keep me from buying there.

I have a question regarding ATMs. When you buy them do you have to load them up with the bitcoins yourself or are they being bought from some exchange directly or something?

Well as it is for Skyhook for example you have to configure your own account to send/sell bitcoins.
You can configure limits for transactions too.

And as a price you can choose to automate a price with an exchange price.

Some of these atms are pretty cheap. I might actually buy one in the future just for the novelty.

Never seen a bitcoin AtM. You guys are so lucky.

So which one is best for someone in california?

This question is a little harder to answer simply because there are so many ATM machines to choose from. Such as Class 1 Armored ATM machines, Indoor ATM machines like the line from Tranax ATM, Triton ATM, and Hyosung ATM.
