Only two trading strategies actually work consistently. 1) Buy and hold an index fund. 2) Be Warren Buffett. The rest is merely the human propensity to insist on finding patterns in noise. If you are investing in BTC you are long BTC but short everything else (ie dollars). If you invest in BTC-denominated asset (ie, invest in 'ABC BitCoin Co' WITH BitCoins) this is economically the same thing as swapping BTC for cash and then investing the cash in the 'ABC BitCoin Co'.
General Investing Strategy: Read "The Intelligent Investor" by Benjamin Graham (its dirt cheap and describes the Warren Buffet-style "Value Investing"). Read everything by Nassim Taleb so that you fully understand the following excerpt: """Many real life phenomena are not 50:50 bets like tossing a coin, but have various unusual and counter-intuitive distributions.
