Title: Pointless top 10 list: Top 10 valued Cryptos per coin.
Post by: Rejinx on February 08, 2012, 06:13:28 PM
I know the value per coin doesn't really mean anything because the value of a currency depends on the number of coin outstanding.  But I figured it would be fun to see anyway.  I don't know the best way to decide the "correct" value, so I am going to go with highest bid (price you could sell 1 coin for)I can find on any exchange.  To the list:
As of 12PM CST 2/8/12:

1.  Bitcoin           USD: $5.5778       BTC: --                 (MtGox)

2.  Solidcoin        USD: $0.04574      BTC: 0.0082          (BTC-E and slc24.com)

3.  Namecoin       USD: $0.02733      BTC: 0.0049          (Bitparking)

4.  Litecoin         USD: $0.01422      BTC: 0.00255         (Vircurex)

5.  RuCoin           USD: $0.00503       BTC: 0.000901       (BTC-E)

6.  Tenebrix        USD: $0.00074       BTC: 0.000133       (BTC-E) (Soon to lose its only exchange)

7.  Liquidcoin       USD: $0.00067      BTC: 0.00012         (Vircurex)

8.  IXcoin           USD: $0.00040       BTC: 0.000073       (Vircurex)

9.  I0coin           USD: $0.00011       BTC: 0.000020      (Vircurex)

10. Geistgeld      USD: $0.00009       BTC: 0.000017      (Vircurex)

The only 2 other active coins I found is Devcoin and Fairbrix.  You could buy 30 Devcoins for one Geistgeld and Fairbrix current has no outstanding bids.

You should consider how many coins are generated in a hour. Solidcoins are more "valuable" because Coinhunter has decreased the block subsidy multiple times. At first it was 32SC per block, then it was dropped to 5SC per block, and now it's $1 in electricity costs per 1SC.

Too bad you don't have a Volume column, that indicates relative interest in the coin.

Many have very, very low volumes, but I just wanted to focus on one easy thing.  Like, if I had 1 of each coin, how much could I get for it?  Also, I did this on my lunch break.  The clock was ticking.

You're doing it wrong in my opinion; you want total number of coins in circulation * the present trading price --> market cap.

1. BTC: $46,301,166 USD
2. SC2: $900,000 (In ~15 million coins; 99.8% of which is held by CoinHunter and close friends through his 13 million coin premine, so the real market cap is more like $1,800 as far as I am concerned.  It's doubtful there's any liquidity close to the 1m$ amount.  This is really dangerous; all it takes is one big dump by one of CH's friends and the whole currency goes to shambles.)
3. LTC: $60,274 USD
4. NMC: $57,225 USD
5. RUC: ?  No idea what block they were on, but it's pre-mined like SC2 so it doesn't really matter.

Exactly.  While even total circulation value isn't the best stat it is far more useful than nominal price.  I would also quantify coin in circulation would exclude any "non-spendable" premines.  Cough cough Scamcoin.  The market is based on assets that are available not sealed off coins which aren't.

To the OP.  Imagine Satoshi had made block reward 1 instead of 50.  Everything being the same we would expect the price of BTC to be ~$50-$60 ea.  It wouldn't indicate any increased popularity just the fact that only 1/50th the coins are in circulation.

Also note that you couldn't find the info to complete the list.  Why would you assume I have access to info you do not? just sayin  ;D
http://bitcoinpie.com/ (http://bitcoinpie.com/) is the only place I know that has that info.

This is helpful, well done.  Would be nice to add the different blockchain difficulties in with them, thus making it a tool to gauge the profitability of each.

Interesting to look back on this thread years later. So much has changed.
