Title: New Mt Gox Info from the Itty-bitty Bitcoin Insight Committee (IBBIC) Post by: Phinnaeus Gage on June 11, 2014, 10:43:09 AM On March 05, 2011, 07:23:19 PM (CST), Jed McCaleb passed the reins of Mt Gox (below) to a suicidal Frenchman whose claim-to-fame consisted of baking apple pies and naming his company, Tibanne, after his cat thanks, in part, to his grandmother. Mark Karpeles also has some IT skill sets, one aspect in which we're going to explore.
Hello Everyone I created mtgox on a lark after reading about bitcoins last summer. It has been interesting and fun to do. I’m still very confident that bitcoins have a bright future. But to really make mtgox what it has the potential to be would require more time than I have right now. So I’ve decided to pass the torch to someone better able to take the site to the next level. MagicalTux has already contributed a lot to the bitcoin community and in many ways he will be better at running the site than I was. He has much more experience with web programming, system administration and integrating with banks and other payment processors than I do. Everything will still work the same as always for the time being. But expect a lot of positive changes after he takes over including: Automatic (and free) funding from Euro accounts. Automatic ACH deposit and withdrawal. Margin trading. Interface redesign. Lifting the $1000 a day withdrawal limit. Thanks to everyone that has supported mtgox so far. Can’t wait to see BTC hit $10! I can still be reached on the forum as "jed" or through fivegrinder.com On November 10, 2010, 08:03:10 AM (CST), Mark Karpeles penned his 7th post using his MagicalTux user name on this here forum. Within you'll read that he owns SMSZ.net. Hi, I'm testing a service I put together quickly: for 0.50 BTC you can send a SMS anywhere in the world. I implemented a small "wallet" where you can load & unload bitcoins easily (without any fee, of course) and a really limited interface (you'll soon see how bad I am at design). NB: Loading coins to the wallet will wait for 3 confirmations (~30 min). URL: http://smsz.net/ Missing features:
Anyway before spending more time on that, some feedback would be welcome. Remember to enter numbers in international format (+<country_code>.<phone_number>)!! Even if you make a mistake in the number, the SMS will be sent to the gateway and you'll be billed anyway. Oh and if you are interested in sending large amount of SMS I can put together an API too :) http://who.godaddy.com/whoisstd.aspx?domain=smsz.net&prog_id=GoDaddy&k=CbcIfiOkM7uMU4TguR6M7byld9kiZ262FeICBIvE7CI3M5XBwW9Qyg%3d%3d Quote Domain Name: SMSZ.NET Registry Domain ID: Registrar WHOIS Server: whois.1api.net Registrar URL: http://www.1api.net Updated Date: 2014-05-26T06:17:51Z Creation Date: 2007-12-14T15:45:58Z Registrar Registration Expiration Date: 2014-12-14T15:45:58Z Registrar: 1api GmbH Registrar IANA ID: 1387 Registrar Abuse Contact Email: abuse@1api.net Registrar Abuse Contact Phone: +49.68416984x200 Reseller: KalyHost http://www.kalyhost.com/ Domain Status: clientTransferProhibited Registry Registrant ID: Registrant Name: Mark Karpel????s Registrant Organization: TIBANNE Co.,Ltd. Also, note that on May 26, 2014, Mark Karpeles updated the filing, obfuscating the spelling of his GOOD name AND the street name, of all things. Perhaps, it's the Fukushima radiation spraying down on Tokyo causing people to lose their fuckin' minds. On December 16, 2010, an IRC dev ;og/chat was archived of which Mark Karpeles held court: http://bitcoinstats.com/irc/bitcoin-dev/logs/2010/12/16. The moniker that Mark Karpeles was using was MT`AwAy. Note the MT and French accent parts Mark Karpeles opted to use close to three months prior to Jed McCaleb sold(?) Mt Gox to him. Also, search for fivegrinder on that linked page and see if you can make heads-or-tails outta what you'll find. I have also received many inquiries from various sources (customers, blog subscribers, etc.) asking for recommendations on how to stay protected against this “new threat”. Being a Bitcoin “technology” fan myself and watching its evolution since inception, I’m eager to delve into the Dark Wallet application and Bitcoin technology in general. First things first, Dark Wallet is not a new kind of a virus, and you are not going to get infected by this type of application. If you haven’t heard about Bitcoin and digital currencies before, this article. Before discussing Dark Wallet in more detail, here’s some background information about the problems in the Bitcoin technology.
