Hiya all,

This is not a rant, This is purely my view, I am open to discussion, but not to abuse, If you cant hold a debate, This is not the place for you.

I have been around crypto coins a while now, I got into BTC a short time after release and I was in it for the idea of what it would represent, It was a dream of Satoshi to bring back power to the people, I do believe it will do this, But in the short term, We must educate the world and try and get as many people involved as possible, Right now, This is not easy, Many of my friends can load a game onto windows and play it, As soon as there is an error, They are stuffed, These are the type of people I have around me and talk to about BTC/LTC Etc.....

I don't know Linux, I do keep trying to learn, But I believe it is beyond me, I have read books and used you-tube tutorials, But when I do something, To copy the tutorial, I am allways presented with "unknown command" the video shoots off assuming all is well and I am left holding a bag ::) I do not have any linux friends  :-[

My point is, This (unfortunately) is most of the population of the world, We have moved so far with development of hardware, Why is the software side slow? Everything I can find has to be "built" or "unpacked" Recently I have tried to get scripta working on a r-pi (you will find this bit funny) I had to download the pi image to put on an SD card, i downloaded the .IMG file, And I just copied it to the disk, Where did it tell me I had to use more program's to extract the image?  ;D

I am not thick, I have a Mensa tested IQ of 125, I think logically, and take things in a literal sense, I have so much respect for those that can code, Alot of people work so hard on programs like cgminer/bfgminer/guiminer team/multiminer... the list goes on, But all of them I (and I would say around 69% of the world) cant use.

What are other peoples thoughts on this? Does Everyone have to learn linux to get anywhere? Are there plans for a click/install/mine gui? Why can an .IMG contain everything needed to mine? (i.e. you have to install the os then install the wui) Are people that game and have to use windows going to be left behind, I say that as a gamer, I have to have a windows system as 90% of games I like will not work on linux, And even the ones that do, need code to work (WINE)

I do have a linux system, I use it for cold storage, and holding the blockchain as it's just too risky having a wallet on a windows system, But that's all I use it for, Sort of a waste really.

EDIT - Should this be in  Alternate cryptocurrencies rather than mining? Mod please move however you see fit, Tis was about mining hence this is the place I put it.

Have you heard of zenMiner?
It is a web-based application which allows to easily set-up and control a miner plugged to a zenController, which is a Raspberry Pi that comes with the required software pre-installed.

With that, you just have to plug the miner into the pi and write the pool infos on the webpage.

Imho, that's a great step towards making mining accessible to everyone.

When internet began, it was only accessible to computer-litterate geeks, but when interest in it became more widespread, entrepreneurs were quick to make it easier to use. This most-likely is what will happen to cryptocurrencies, with initiatives such as zenMiner's.

Just spent some time reviewing this, Thanks for the info, It was interesting and this is a big step to make things a easier, They have worked out that getting started is something that needs to be addressed.

However from what I have read, They only seem to support gawminer, and very limited on other brands, Some report it works on gridseed and others cant get it to detect anything atall, I am not poo pooing this, I think this is great, I wish them success in further developing this idea.

Call me a little paranoid, But personally I don't want a cloud/web gui to be on my network, It just leaves too many doors open for my liking, I thing people should stick to running within their own personal space, With things like teamviewer for someone that really wants to access their home network.

That's true, it's still in early development and thus it doesn't support many different models of miners.
Still, it's a step in the right direction.

What makes you wary about the fact that it's web-based? If a hacker were to gain control of someone's machines, the person would take notice quite soon and would be able to take back control rapidly. Although I'm indeed a bit worried of the possibility that zenMiner's whole infrastructure could be accessed, allowing someone to take control of all their miners and attack a coin, I think the advantages of being able to control our miners when away from home to be worth that small risk.

Afraid thats where we differ, I do not like the idea of any risk when it comes to money, I dont even do online/phone banking IRL.

There is an accusation around the dragon miners installing spyware in there miners, If true it's an "evil genius" idea, The best way to find a computer with a wallet.dat is to somehow get onto a network with a user that mines, I am not saying this is true or false, That debate is on other threads, But it's the idea that I am scared of, I dont want anyone on my home network, This is why I make it hard to do so, And when they are on, They should not find anything, I hope to waste their time.

This guy has created an "all in one" image file and goes through the process of mining, To a standard that I understand and can follow, He has built this cgminer into the software of the pi, I am able to PuTTY in and get mining.

EDIT - This video is purely for g-blades, He does do others, But this is the idea that needs to be more available, I have been searching for ages when I accidentally came across this.
