Title: PCI-e 1x to 16x Riser Issues
Post by: Scared on March 01, 2012, 04:10:15 AM
I thought I could use PCIe 1x to 16x (cablesaurus.com) Risers on every 7970 connected to my MOBO (MSI 890FXA-GD70) under Windows 7 using 12.2 Catalyst Drivers. It hasn't turned out to be as easy as I thought it would be.

It seems that unless I plug the card into the MOBO directly and get Windows 7 to recognize the hardware then reboot with the 7970 using the riser it wont work at all. Is there a way to configure Windows to recognize the 1x riser without first having to plug it directly into the MOBO.

Also it seems that the MOBO wont recognize the first 7970 unless it's directly plugged into the MOBO. Is there a way to get the MOBO to recognize the card using a 1x riser?

It seems my only option is to purchase PCIe 16x to 16x risers but I'd rather use the 1x risers if possible.

Any help much appreciated.
