Title: Would you sponsor an athlete with your Bitcoin?
Post by: jeromanomic on July 10, 2014, 01:44:39 AM
I was watching UFC, and saw that a fighter is raising funds directly from the Bitcoin community.  He has a big QR Code on his shorts, and a blockchain link.

As a fan of the UFC, I would be wiling to send a few dollars to fighers.  I'd do it after they had fought so it would be like saying 'thanks for the exciting show'.

I'd only send a small amount, but if enough people send in some change, it would make a difference.  It's an interesting use of Bitcoin, and it really takes advantage of the fact that Bitcoin is a global currency.  I live in Australia, so there is no other way I could support an athlete in the US so easilly, and have the funds actually go to him.

What do you guys think?  Would you support an athlete?  Have you seen Bitcoin pop up in any similar uses?

I used to watch UFC and that is pretty cool :)
I'm not big into donating, but I would if an athlete advertised it some how, especially if its on clothing as you say.
I shall check out your link.

Wierd though.. thought most UFC peoples were already covered with certain sponsors ?
this guy a very new person ??

It'd be cool to sponsor Floyd "Money" Mayweather via Bitcoin (not that he needs it) just so that we could call him Floyd "Bitcoin" Mayweather

I would sponsor Guillermo Ochoa (Mexico's Goalie). FIFA

Pro-athletes, no they are all overpaid. Non-pro-atheletes maybe depends on them and the sport.

The fighters are responsible for their own sponsorship deals.  I think the UFC directly sponsors a couple (Jon Jones was the first).

I was watching Camozzi's fight live (on TV). At no point was the QR code scannable, wearing a QR code on clothing that shifts around and will never be camera-focused isn't a good match.
Athletes also make big money for being talented. I don't think they need a couple dozen five-cent tips

I'm not really into UFC but I think it's a cool idea and it gets bitcoin's name out there and people talking about it which is great.
