I'm trying to see what items are best purchased with bitcoin given it's properties, ie, being irreversible. Mining gear seems like a big one, as Ebay supposedly sides with buyers who wish to return after 2 weeks. What other items could this apply to?

Digital goods mainly, but almost anything can be sold for BTC given the right infrastructure.

Sometimes it's not best to purchase using your bitcoins. If you can purchase your goods with fiat that would be ideal, I hate when I buy something one day and the next I over paid because the rate went up. Obviously this could work in your favor to but we know bitcoin doesn't drop often.   :)

For MERCHANTS everything

a. zero fees
b. no charge backs

For buyers

a. discounts are used often with btc by merchants
b. use of a digital currency that is anonymous not trace if done right
c. no currency exchanging if you are often in different countries

Negatives for buyers if you deal with a bad merchant you lose.

Negatives for everyone is hacking of wallets and accounts so proper understanding of the net is essential if you keep a lot of money in wallets.

Should you have all your money in wallets? Not right now, the market could disappear over night, not likely to, but who knows.

Well at this point you can buy almost everything with bitcoin, from bspend.com to dell.. the decision is yours.

Anything purchased at a coffee shop. This tends to be a favorite amount the bitcoineers that I know.

Definitely industries with high chargeback rates. Adult entertainment/porn, for instance, faces this issue, so I would think that these types of places would take to bitcoin.

I think this would apply more to merchants then to buyers. However it is a great idea to sell these things with bitcoin as it would likely allow merchants to charge less, and buyers to pay less.

For normal item, it is cheaper if you pay in cash or credit card.

That's true. Although, these are also the types of things you wouldn't want showing up on your credit card bill. With bitcoin, you can retain your anonymity and keep your CC info safe.

sometimes you wanna buy things "on the under".... i don't care to mention every such thing here, but the point is, the wife looks at the credit card bill/bank statements. but not the bitcoin wallet txs! ;D

buy goods best, not buy "IPO" never.

i would think anything where you want to shield off your identity a bit (anonymity withstanding). like adult entertainment stuff. or maybe shady-ish websites where you don't trust them with your CC info.

The only thing I spend my bitcoin on today is cloakcoin!

- Item that only can bought with BTC
- Item that have discount
- Item that useful

Anything that will generally produce income in terms of bitcoin should be paid for in bitcoin. If it will not produce bitcoin directly then it should be paid for in fiat.

I think at the moment bitcoin is used predominantly for virtual goods and services and trading. There are of course people who buy pizza with bitcoin, but I think it is mostly done for promoting the pizza shop and others like that.

Auctions for anything in person would be great. E.g house and car sales are usually fixed via a bank transfer that has a settlement period. Why not transact with BTC and drive away no more to pay!
