Seasonic, Enermax, & Corsair are top shelf IMHO.  If I had to pick only one it would be SeaSonic.
XFX, Coolermaster, and Antec are decent.
I had bad luck w/ Thermaltake and I think PC Power & Cooling has gone downhill since OCZ bought them (OCZ packaging so-so units in a premium brand name).

Personally I would stay away from the junk and house brands.  Good clean power is just too important to save a couple bucks.

Likely you just started a thread war though because something I said will rub someone the wrong way. :)

Just going to echo what he said. A better PSU will cost you maybe $50-$100 more but it'll hold up at 100% load AND it'll resell quite nicely when you are done with it.

My preferred power supply is the Rosewill 1300 Lightning - single rail, 1300 continuous watts, 80 plus gold rated, 8 6+2 pci-e connectors.

I have it powering (4) 5970's (clocked 820/300) 380 mh/sec. I had lower hashrates when all 4 were in Windows7 on the same board, but splitting them among 2 motherboards and this power supply powering all of them has been very stable.

I think the PCP&C psu are still some of the top tier PSUs on the market. i have a 910w pushing MSI-GD70, 140, 2gb, 7200rpm, 4 5850s, 1 133cfm fan and 4 40cfrm fans without any problem. Maybe the lower watt psus have gone down a little but the higher ones 910, 950, 1200 i think are still top notch old school PCP&C quality. The best thing is that the 1200 and 910 are front rear cooling so with ref 5850s the air flow and pressure is 2 direction. front in and rear out. This helps a bunch with my stupid purchase of the antec 100 with no bottom facing exhaust for the PSU.

I buy most of my computer components from Dabs.com. The power supply for my first rig was an EZ-Cool 1050W 80+, partly modular, for £115. It's now discontinued. It's not one of the big guys mentioned here, but it's given me a solid service for a rig with two 5970s, and I expect to add a third 5970 soon.

For my second rig I've got a XFX 1250W Fully Modular Black Edition 80+ Gold Rated PSU (use their 'quicklinx code' 7T3C). That's £220  :o but it really is the dog's bollocks*. The rig's only got two 5970 cards at the moment, but the 5970 fairy will magic me two more hopefully soon. Needless to say it has all the PCIe 6/8 sockets it needs. Also it's 'single rail' which is apparently rather important for these things.

* US readers: this is a term of the highest approval.

For awhile I thought 'dog's bollocks' or 'bollocks' referred to arse, but now knowing the facts I'm a little disturbed with anything testicle related being a seal of approval :D

By the way.  I'm looking at the 80 Plus Golds.  Seasonic and XFX are very close in pricing.  Are there any cheap 80 Plus Platinums to be had?

Using OCZ 1000's and 1200's 80+ and no issues here, Single rail PSU's and easily available in the UK

I am using PC Power and Cooling, a 650 and a 950, Silencer MKII 80+ silver, and they are running great.  Still have the 7 year warranty as well, so not sure about the quality dropping.

If you need a primer on cockney, I'd suggest Guy Richie films, like Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.

Likely you just started a thread war though because something I said will rub someone the wrong way.
Is someone going to get beat to death by a big black rubber cock?

Single rail = good
Continuous rating = good
80+ = good

You can get a 1000w Rosewill for $100us ($90 on these forums).
