Title: Official BitShares X support thread. [BTSX]
Post by: FriendsOfBitshares on July 23, 2014, 09:19:26 PM
If anyone here does not yet know, Bitshares X - Bank and Exchange (BTSX) is live and trading on bter.com and btc38.com.

The client needs a little bit of work and can be rough around the edges, but BTSX are tradeable.

If you are interested, the easiest way to get started is http://wiki.bitshares.org/index.php/Bitshares-x-how-to (http://wiki.bitshares.org/index.php/Bitshares-x-how-to)

For info on what BitShares X is visit http://wiki.bitshares.org/index.php/Bitshares_X (http://wiki.bitshares.org/index.php/Bitshares_X)

Currently bter is requiring a registered account to withdraw.  That means you will need to have BTSX to register an account before you can withdraw.  Since giveaways are not allowed, please visit https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=6106.0 (https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=6106.0) and someone will be happy to give a few BTSX.

Please be patient.  People are having varying results with the client but the transactions are secure.  The next release should be real soon and significantly improved.

Giveaway threads are not allowed here anymore, unfortunate in this case. What would be allowed is a link to bitsharestalk.org or somewhere else where the giveaway can happen.  ;)

Still buggy, but very impressive! I was able to load the client on my laptop, but not on my desktop - both Windows but different releases.

I was aware of the rule but it slipped my mind.  Thank you for not locking/deleting the thread.

Very good user experience with both my Mac and Windows. I did not have to deal with addresses any more, but account. This is the way a wallet client should be. Also, 10 sec block time is awesome. Feels like instant transfer.

Withdrawing btsx from bter.com took less than 2 minutes. There is still a 5000 btsx per day withdrawal limit, but that is supposed to be raised soon.

With lots of help, I have been able to create a web wallet with some funds built in for registration purposes.  If you are currently unable to open the wallet due to silly windows issues and just want to play, or need funds to register an account to withdraw from bter feel free to use it.  Theres about a dollars worth of BTSX on there.  Please only take what you need to register your account.  about .2BTSX.  Or replace what you take.

Maybe, they increased withdrawal limit, still low, 45k BTSX a day, but some people have not received them when they withdraw

I am going to give a withdraw a go right now for 50k from bter and will lessen it by 5k each time until I am able to withdraw, I will update with my results.

A test withdraw of 2 btsx was received in about 5 mins so I could not be happier with the transaction times. I believe a p2p transaction would be even faster........

Well it appeared that a 45k withdraw was the limit and that it was going to go through however the transaction was canceled by bter with a error msg of " cancelled:BTSX account is not registered or memo is too long".
I know the account is registered because they allowed me to withdraw 2 btsx to the same account earlier today. As far as the memo part goes I didn't add one so I am calling shenanigans on this one. I will have to get in touch with there support.......joy.

The only thing I've heard of that has worked for anyone has been disabling any virtual disc drives on the system.   I've even heard people have success after disabling their hardware disc drives.

I have a virtual drive on my OS (win7 ultimate 64bit) and the client works fine. It does crash when you go to close it but thats it.

The solution for most seems to be installing the openssl 1.0.1h binaries https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=6179.0

It may be fixed in the latest download in that same thread but I'm not sure.

It's best to register a name, however to register a name you need BTSX, someone will send you, or I think there is a faucet somewhere to get started. It is supposedly anonymous. Make sure you back up your wallet from the menu once registered.

Thank you, I got 0.2 BTSX now and can register. But is it possible to change the default path?

Is it possible to import protoshares keys (from Februrary) before registering a name?

I think there was circa 1.5 million BitShares-PTS mined at the time of the BTSX snapshot on 28 Feb.

Those 1.5 Million PTS were awarded 1 Billion of the 2 Billion BTSX total. (The other 1 Billion was awarded to people who donated to BitShares AGS.)

Therefore I think each PTS you held on 28th Feb gets you 1 Billion/1.5 million = 666.666 BTSX , um wow that's evil, um,

Lets instead say I 'think', 1 PTS got you 667 BTSX

If you hold BitShares PTS (formerly known as Protoshares) in your wallet 21th August

you will be given BitShares Vote (https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=6508) and BitShares DNS (https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=6509).

When BitShares Vote and BitShares DNS launch, you import your BitShares PTS wallet's private key to receive your stake in each (instructions will be given).

This means that you should retain control of the BitShares PTS wallet until Vote and DNS launches.
This means that only the amount of BitShares PTS you held in your wallet at 21th of August will matter to how much stake you get in Vote and DNS.

Also note that this means that BitShares PTS price will fall immediately after August 21th,
as everyone who bought BitShares PTS just to get a stake in Vote and DNS will be free to sell their PTS.

Also note that BTER and BTC38 will take snapshot of your PTS for you, to make it easier for users,

if you are interested for a good source for interesting stuff in bitshares you can follow @bitshareshub at twitter

for anyone
- the only exchanges i know to honour the 21 august snapshot are BTER and BTC38 so if you hold your PTS on any other exchange please transfer it back
or ask your exchange to honour the snapshot.

Probably because bitsaphire is taking over the forums. It's probably just temporary

Yeah I think so. You can still access it, just not much going on there today while main link is down.

There's a tweet with the link

Posted this in Come-from-Above's IPO thread, but:
Poloniex added an easy account register tool https://poloniex.com/btsxRegistration (found under balances > BTSX) so you can pay the .1BTSX  to register accounts Cheesy much easier than finding someone to send you .1

this should ease the process  ;D

I was able to get the small amount of BTSX to register my name by asking in this thread at the Bitshares forum... https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=6439.0. Registered my name and was able to immediately make the transfer to my wallet from bter.com.

All,

I have PTS and I donated PTS to acquire AGS. Looking at the AGS101 explorer, it indicates the number of shares that I donated and what I assume is, my share of BTSX as it relates solely to my AGS snapshot 2/28.

I have successfully imported my PTS wallet into the BTSX client and it is displaying my BTSX funds based upon my PTS snapshot 2/28. I'm really just seeking clarification on a small point:

Is the BTSX wallet automaticaly combining both my AngelShares attributable BTSX and my Protoshares BTSX allocations? Or is it only displaying only my PTS Allocations? If you don't know the answer, please do not speculate. I'd rather have no answer than musings. (Plenty of musings on the interwebs).

Lastly, does anyone have the final word on how the allocation ended up? Thanks!

BTSX / PTS ratio
BTSX / AGS ratio

Yes, it's combining.

Ratio https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=5722.msg77217#msg77217:
1 PTS give you 1 * ~1.28 * 500 BTSX
1 AGS give you 1 * ~3.33 * 500 BTSX

IPO was for 199 days from 1 Jan, until 28 Feb for BitSharesX, rest ~139 for coming DAC's like BitShares DNS and BitShares Vote, etc
Do you missing whole 199 days IPO?

IPO results you can see here: http://www1.agsexplorer.com

whats going on with the price?

Just a correction most likely. 0.4.9 was released last night and some people are having issues, it only applies to the .exe binary though, all other versions are fine. Nothing major.. I think people are having trouble connecting to peers.

There have been a lot of issues/bugs that have popped up since the bitUSD market went live. TITAN generates all addresses deterministically, so even if there are issues no funds will be lost as long as you back up the private keys. All issues will be fixed eventually.. They've been rolling out about an update a day since Monday.

Hey bitcoincal. Are you on 0.4.9-a (literally just released a minute or 2 ago)? It is supposed to fix the problems for Windows users.

BitsahresX has over 90M market cap 1-2 days ago. The drop down is quite fast (63M).

High fluctuation like this will drive many potential investors away.

I think quite differently, few days ago it's was panic buy, now it's correction to reasonable price.

On the contrary

Short term price doesn't mean much, there will be lots ups and downs in the prize short term, bitcoin price rose to 31$ and then fell to 3$ and here we are today!!

You either believe in the crypto you hold or you don't, most altcoin holders out there don't really believe in the crypto they hold, they are in it for a possible quick gain.

Bitshares holders on the other hand have done their homework and they know exactly WHY they hold bitshares pts, bitshares ags and bitsharesX.

There is a lot of work you have to do if you want to do your homework about bitshares and most people are lazy.

Im 50% Bitcoin 50% Bitshares, I believe that if there is any chance for any "coin" to get close to bitcoin's market cap that will be bitshares, nothing else has the potential of bitshares, there have been some valiant efforts by NxT but their initial coin distribution has done some serious damage to it.

In any case, everyone should do their homework.

I made this post over on the Bitshares forum to help people out & thought I would copy it here in case anyone needed it.

[windows-BTSX] Wallet Backup Methods & Troubleshooting Procedures

Suggested Back Up Practices:
  • Since BitsharesX and bitassets are still new, there seems to be a few bugs floating around. I think it is important everyone back their wallet up in multiple ways to avoid loss of funds.
  • It is technically only necessary to back up the private keys of your account, but just in case an error is made during that process I recommend doing it multiple ways just to be sure, especially if you are holding a large amount of funds or cannot afford to lose your money.
  • It is important to back up your wallet to another storage device such as online storage or a USB storage device in case of hardware failure, hard drive corruption, etcetra.

How TITAN Private Keys Work:
  • All keys that your wallet ever generates for use with the block chain are derived in a deterministic manner from the root wallet key.
  • You can regenerate all of these keys from an old back up if necessary and then scan the block chain to retrieve all past transactions.
  • In other words, if your funds have gone missing or the balance is not correct due to a bug, do not worry yourself to death that you have lost your money. It still exists and is retrievable as long as proper back up measures are taken.

Automatic Back Ups:
  • Every time you create a new account or update the client to a new version, your wallet is automatically backed up in the following folder: C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\BitShares X\wallets\.backups
  • Note: Replace UserName with your Windows user name in the above file path. Furthermore, the AppData folder is hidden by default so you need to either type it in manually into the file browser, or change the Windows settings that will allow you to view hidden files.
  • Even though your wallet automatically backs itself up manually when creating a new account or updating to a new version, it is recommended to back up the wallet folder if it has been a long time since you've done either of those things. Otherwise, you will need to download a large part of the block chain that you wouldn't of otherwise needed to download.

Three Methods Of Backing Up Your Wallet Manually:
Disclaimer: Even though I have tested everything I've outlined in this post, I am not responsible if something does not work, even if you follow the directions correctly. I have tried everything I am suggesting and it worked for me, but I cannot guarantee it will work for you. Proceed with caution and follow the steps exactly as I say. If you are extra paranoid, holding a large amount of funds, or cannot afford to lose your funds, doing all three back up methods is not a bad idea for redundancy.

1. The easiest back up method is located on the top left navigation bar of the client.
1a. Click on File -> Export Wallet
1b. Remember to write down your wallet password and store it in a safe location when backing up your wallet this way, as the wallet back up file is encrypted with this password. Furthermore, remember to store this file somewhere online or on a USB drive as well for redundancy.
1c. To restore your wallet from this back up file use the following procedures.
1d. Click on File -> Import Wallet
1e. Locate your back up file and click Open

2. Retrieving your accounts main private key is also a good way of backing up your account. All addresses & private keys TITAN generates for each specific account can be generated using this private key, so you only need to do this kind of a back up once.
2a. Go to the console tab on the left navigation bar of the client.
2b. Use the wallet_dump_private_key command with the following syntax for every account you have: wallet_dump_private_key <account name>
2c. Write down the private key on paper, print it out, or store it encrypted in a secure location. Remember if anyone gets this private key they can steal your funds, because it is not encrypted like it is in the 1st back up option so be very careful about where you put it. I suggest printing it out and storing it in a safe place, using encryption software to encrypt it using a secure password, or store it somewhere online that is password protected such as the password database storage website LastPass (remember to require a password to retrieve it.)
2d. To recover your account(s) in case of loss or hardware/software failure, use the following command in the console: wallet_import_private_key <private key copied from step 2c>
2e. Make sure the block chain is fully downloaded and then use the following command to scan the block chain. This will bring up all of your transactions and correct your balances. Go to the console tab on the left navigation bar and enter the following command: wallet_rescan_blockchain

3. The third method is backing up your wallet folder manually. This is automatically done when upgrading to a new client, or after you create a new account. This method is nice because when you use it to retrieve your account, you do not have to re-download the entire block chain as it will be saved up to the point when you made the back up. If it has been a while since you created a new account or updated the wallet client, then it is probably a good idea to do this back up periodically.
3a. Browse to the folder: C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\BitShares X\wallets
^ Note: Replace UserName with your Windows user name; AppData is a hidden folder so you need to type it in manually or turn on the viewing of hidden files and folders ^
3b. Copy the folder named 'default'
3c. Paste it anywhere you'd like as long as it's not in the same folder. I am using the My Documents but it doesn't matter. It is also a good idea to store it on a USB drive or somewhere online. It is encrypted, so you don't have to be as careful with the back up file as you did with back up method two as long as you have a secure password.
3d. Make sure to write down your wallet password, as this back up method is encrypted.
3e. If you need to recover your wallet, copy and paste the back up folder into the directory you originally copied it from in step 3a
3f. Windows will ask if you are sure you want to replace the existing folder & files, select yes.
3g. Open the BitsharesX client and your wallet should be restored. You will likely need to re-scan the block chain using the command 'wallet_rescan_blockchain' in the console tab. This will pick up any transactions you have made/received since the last time you backed up the wallet.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Troubleshooting Procedures

First make sure you are using the current version of the client, if you are then continue to the following troubleshooting procedures.

If you are missing funds, or your balance is zero when it should not be -> Go to Step 1
If you cannot connect to any peers, it says 'Not Connected' at the bottom, or if you can connect but can not sync -> Go to Step 2

1. If you made a transaction (or order in the market) and your funds are missing, first try to rescan the block chain using the following command: wallet_rescan_blockchain
1a. If that doesn't work continue to step 2

2. Backup your wallet using ALL of the 3 back up methods listed above and close the BitsharesX client.
2a. Browse to C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\BitShares X\wallets\.backups\
2b. Copy & paste the 'default' into the following directory: C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\BitShares X\wallets\
^ Note: replace UserName with your Windows user name; AppData is a hidden folder so you need to type it in manually or turn on the viewing of hidden files and folders ^
2c. Windows will ask if you are sure you want to replace the existing folder & files, select yes.
2d. Open the BitsharesX client and your wallet should be restored. You will likely need to re-scan the block chain using 'wallet_rescan_blockchain' to pick up any transactions you have made/received since the last time your wallet was automatically backed up.
2e. If that doesn't work, continue to step 3

3. Backup your wallet using ALL of the 3 methods listed above (if you already did this in step 2, then it is not necessary) and exit out of the BitsharesX client.
3a. Delete this folder: C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\BitShares X\wallets\default
^ Note: replace UserName with your Windows user name; AppData is a hidden folder so you need to type it in manually or turn on the viewing of hidden files and folders ^
3b. Open the BitsharesX client, create a new wallet password, and wait for the block chain to finish downloading. Instead of creating a new account, just go to console to do the following.
2c. Import your private key to your account(s) using the 'wallet_import_private_key' command in the console with the private key you copied from back up method 2 on step 2c using the following syntax: wallet_import_private_key <private key>
2d. Re-scan the block chain to retrieve all of your transactions and to show your proper balance using the following command in console: wallet_rescan_blockchain

If you are still missing funds or your balance is still zero, do not worry. Your private keys for all addresses generated with TITAN are determined in a deterministic way. As long as you have the private keys for them (backup method 2), then you will be able to retrieve your funds eventually. There are a lot of bugs being found and fixed as you read this, as the software and asset exchange is still brand new. Please be patient as bugs are fixed and do not worry about your funds as long as you have followed proper back up procedures. Even if you didn't you can likely retrieve your wallet from the automatic back up feature, so there is no need to stress about it.

Troubleshooting Procedures

First make sure you are using the current version of the client, if you are then continue to the following troubleshooting procedures.

1. Change how many nodes your client tries to connect to and the maximum it will try to connect to by typing the following command in the console:
network_set_advanced_node_parameters {"desired_number_of_connections":50, "maximum_number_of_connections":100}
1a. If that doesn't work, then try connecting to some nodes manually using the following commands:
network_add_node "107.170.211.129:1700" add
network_add_node "80.240.133.79:1776" add
network_add_node "188.226.195.137:60696" add
network_add_node "76.74.170.79:54200" add
network_add_node "176.9.234.166:1700" add
network_add_node "180.153.142.120:1777" add
network_add_node "162.243.220.142:1777" add
network_add_node "84.238.140.192:42577" add
network_add_node "5.101.106.138:1778" add
network_add_node "69.164.192.144:1700" add
network_add_node "192.168.0.14:1776" add
network_add_node "78.46.32.25:1776" add
network_add_node "192.168.0.12:44327" add
network_add_node "70.114.143.108:1776" add
network_add_node "106.187.91.24:38581" add
network_add_node "106.185.26.162:1981" add
network_add_node "188.138.107.159:1776" add
network_add_node "104.131.136.190:1776" add
network_add_node "95.85.33.16:8764" add
network_add_node "198.199.103.79:1776" add
network_add_node "104.131.234.136:8801" add
1b. If the steps above did not work, then try step 2

2. Try to rescan the block chain using the following command: wallet_rescan_blockchain
2a. This command can take a long time to finish, just be patient and let it do its thing.
2b. If that doesn't work continue to step 3

3. Backup your wallet using ALL of the 3 back up methods listed above and close the BitsharesX client.
3a. If you have previously backed up your wallet using the File -> Export Wallet feature at the top left of the client, then try importing that file by going to File -> Import Wallet and locating the file you saved when you backed up your wallet.
3b. If you had not backed up your wallet using this method prior to just now or this did not fix your problem, then continue to step 4.

4. Backup your wallet using ALL of the 3 methods listed above (if you already did this in step 3, then it is not necessary) and exit out of the BitsharesX client.
4a. Browse to C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\BitShares X\wallets\.backups\
4c. Windows will ask if you are sure you want to replace the existing folder & files, select yes.
4d. Open the BitsharesX client and your wallet should be restored. You will likely need to re-scan the block chain using 'wallet_rescan_blockchain' to pick up any transactions you have made/received since the last time your wallet was automatically backed up.
4e. If that doesn't work, continue to step 5

5. Backup your wallet using ALL of the 3 methods listed above (if you already did this in step 3 or 4, then it is not necessary) and exit out of the BitsharesX client.
5a. Delete this folder: C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\BitShares X\wallets\default
^ Note: replace UserName with your Windows user name; AppData is a hidden folder so you need to type it in manually or turn on the viewing of hidden files and folders ^
5b. Open the BitsharesX client, create a new wallet password, and wait for the block chain to finish downloading. Instead of creating a new account, just go to console to do the following.
5c. Import your private key to your account(s) using the 'wallet_import_private_key' command in the console with the private key you copied from back up method 2 (on step 2c) using the following syntax: wallet_import_private_key <private key>

You should send a ticket to Bter, I had the same problem quite a few times but they always solved it.

Here is a block explorer but TITAN makes it difficult to track transactions http://www.bitsharesblocks.com/blocks I think you have this info in your client's transaction info anyway.

its strange lad

do i have to put bterxxxxxxxxxxxxxx in the withdraw address with the btsx memo or shall i use the hash value for the transaction?

i used hash value and memo to withdraw and it seems 50 BTSX are lost now because i cant track them and i dont know where in space my 50 BTSX will be floating  ???

Use the hash or transaction ID.. whatever it's called. :)

Due to stealth addresses via TITAN using BTER's account name wouldn't bring it up.

Although, the client had a mandatory upgrade today (hard fork), and the block explorer posted earlier seems to be on a fork. Use this block explorer instead, then go to the transaction tab and use the search field using the hash. If you see it then your transaction went through properly and you should contact BTER. If you don't see it you should come to the Bitshares forums and ask for help. I wouldn't know what to do in that case, but I'm sure there are people that do.

This is the other block explorer: http://blockchain.bitsuperlab.com/

It's not that complicated, the software is just really new and there have been a lot of bugs to fix. Nxt has been around much longer and has had time to work out the kinks. It is finally getting to a somewhat usable state right now. In the early days the bugs were plentiful, but it is more stable now. Really the only back up method you need to do is to dump your main private key using wallet_dump_private_key and copy it to a secure place (password protected, off line, or encrypted.)

Yes, you can import private keys from wallet which you use to send BTC/PTS to AGS donation into the BitSharesX client:

Yeah, we usually stick to BitSharesTalk.org
 (https://bitsharestalk.org/)
There are some big plans for marketing, but not really aimed internally at the crypto community. Setting aside BitShares products like Vote, Music, DNS, and Play, the three main developments are these:

1. BitShares X wallet will both become more user friendly and have a market section that measures up to leading financial software.

2. It will soon be possible to exchange USD for bitUSD with credit cards, wire transfers, and even sms.

3. We have a referral program being planned that should help bitAssets go viral in a big way.

Yes, after you read about other coins which clones of BTC, LTC, etc. you can't expect something which more complex. But believe me, when you read and understand BitShares you will love it. Better way to start from http://wiki.bitshares.org and then ask questions at https://bitsharestalk.org if any.

Did you contact their technical support?  They are pretty fast to respond and it appears to be something caused by the name change on their end.

bts is great but I have to say the client is literally the worst nightmare I have ever seen. Slow to get the chain, slow to scan txes, eats all the memory, gets stuck, eats all the cpu, gets corrupted, crashes, can't start after a crash, constant disk activity, can't uses the system for anything else.

When you start bitshares for the first time it uses lot of system resources like the original bitcoin wallet did(bitshares use more resources), it is unwise to try to do anything else in your pc until bitshares fully synchronizes. This slow down can also happen if you start bitshares after a long period of time and it needs to synchronize with the network again. Transaction scanning can be slow if you have lots of accounts in your wallet. It was some hours ago that bitshares moved from 0.4.27.2 version to 0.5 so its still too early and things will keep improving drastically, also a light client will be out soon and a mobile version is in testing right now I think.
