Title: Re: BTC NEAR ME Post by: deadlizard on May 03, 2011, 07:08:52 AM everyone is 9259.4 kilometers away ??? is this U.S only?
it would be nice to be able to check the order book without adding an email address ;) Title: Re: BTC NEAR ME Post by: FreeMoney on May 03, 2011, 07:45:27 AM everyone is 9259.4 kilometers away ??? is this U.S only? it would be nice to be able to check the order book without adding an email address ;) It would, but if people think "ah, no one, won't bother" then it won't get started, so I can see requiring an email and zip to look. Title: Re: BTC NEAR ME Post by: deadlizard on May 03, 2011, 08:09:36 AM everyone is 9259.4 kilometers away ??? is this U.S only? it would be nice to be able to check the order book without adding an email address ;) It would, but if people think "ah, no one, won't bother" then it won't get started, so I can see requiring an email and zip to look. Maybe there should be a faq explaining the nuances of the system because you can see the order book if you just enter a postcode. you are told "Email can't be blank" but it also opens the order book with that postcode .... Title: Re: BTC NEAR ME Post by: sandos on May 03, 2011, 09:13:14 AM This should be able to get your location from your browser like google maps etc can. I don't think my swedish zip-code will do much good.
Title: Re: BTC NEAR ME Post by: Alex Beckenham on May 03, 2011, 09:25:41 AM Why are all the Distances identical?
8892.7 kilometers Surely not everyone before me is in the same postcode. Yeah. It will be annoying if people put in valid zips and invalid emails. Title: Re: BTC NEAR ME Post by: marcus_of_augustus on May 03, 2011, 09:47:59 AM So this is like this one?

It currently uses post code + country (from IP) Title: Re: BTC NEAR ME Post by: Anonymous on May 03, 2011, 11:49:26 AM I am happy to introduce BTC NEAR ME: http://btcnearme.com/ It's a bit of a jalopy, but might be useful. Do you make a disclaimer every time you post about bitcoins that you own bitcoins ? Title: Re: BTC NEAR ME Post by: marcus_of_augustus on May 03, 2011, 10:57:27 PM No, bitcoin is the currency of denomination, disclaimers are not expected or necessary as far as I'm aware. Shareholdings are considered differently. Disclaimer: I own Bitcoins. (In fact i might put this in my signature.:)) Title: Re: BTC NEAR ME Post by: LightRider on May 03, 2011, 11:51:33 PM I think the defining feature of Ubitex will be the persistent rating system of the users. None of the other sites seem to provide this service, so it should definitely stand out due to that.

Title: Re: BTC NEAR ME Post by: graingert on May 04, 2011, 01:06:17 AM seems to be down, "Something went wrong"
it would be cool if you could use a long/lat (ie taken from google maps) Title: Open Sourced Post by: famulus on May 04, 2011, 03:55:17 AM Here is the code for BTC NEAR ME:

My 5-digit zip code has a leading zero (02144) and it showed up as "2144". Can't fix it for you, I'm not a Rails person. Perhaps you should clarify this on the frontpage… Cheers, Title: Re: BTC NEAR ME Post by: mewantsbitcoins on May 04, 2011, 01:10:05 PM famulus, great idea, but I was wondering. If I didn't want to buy or sell, just browse the list of nearby trades for future reference, is there a way to do that?
Title: Re: BTC NEAR ME Post by: famulus on May 04, 2011, 02:10:25 PM http://btcnearme.com/ This seems to be for people in the US, right? Perhaps you should clarify this on the frontpage… Cheers, It uses googles geo API. So it should work internationally. Just some debugging needed. Title: Re: BTC NEAR ME Post by: kseistrup on May 04, 2011, 02:27:45 PM It uses googles geo API. So it should work internationally. Hm, ok, it's just that it says “Near zip code / postal code” on the frontpage, and entering a Danish zip code doesn't do much good… Cheers, Title: Re: BTC NEAR ME Post by: famulus on May 14, 2011, 11:33:54 PM I have made several upgrades and tweeks:
http://btcnearme.com/ Better international support, faster, better layout. Title: Re: BTC NEAR ME Post by: bearbones on May 15, 2011, 12:09:50 AM I'm constantly amazed at how spread out bitcoin users are... I signed up when you first posted this, and I was the only one on the list. Just checked again: same result. I don't mean to disparage your site, though! I think it will become very useful soon, and I appreciate that you opened up the code. I've noticed the same trend with bitmunchies. I offer grocery pickup in Denver, but none of my customers are even from Colorado. We can't be that far from critical mass, though... $40M-$50M is definitely real money.
Title: Re: BTC NEAR ME Post by: famulus on May 30, 2011, 08:35:41 PM I've finally fixed a huge Geocoding bug that was causing failure every 4th request.

I'm a buyer if the terms are agreeable. I'm a seller if the terms are agreeable. However I can't submit 2 entries on this site. For now I guess I'll have to use 2 different email addresses. Title: Re: BTC NEAR ME Post by: Capitan on July 04, 2011, 06:31:37 AM I signed up a while ago, trying to sell some BTC (and I'm in one of the largest cities in the world). So far haven't been able to find a buyer.
I'd rather avoid exchanges if possible. I might have to start putting craigslist ads to sell my coins.
