Depends, you're going to have to be more specific than that.

By sheer statistics, it's of course humans. If we're looking at animals, then it is probably some kind of an insect like a mosquito because they spread disease and kill a lot of people that way. If we're only looking at large animals, then probably something like a shark. Really depends on what you mean.

Humans by far. We have created many very dangerous weapons that have the ability to wipe out life as we know it on earth.

We are animals! Sharks are hardly dangerous (we all have to eat)... most people who are attacked by sharks survive; we're too boney for their taste. Free Willy is a hell of lot more dangerous than Jaws. And don't think for one minute that Flipper is a saint!

But yes, no doubt we are.

We have created many dangerous weapons that have the ability to destroy the earth, not just the life on earth. We could also potentially wreck other planets, but it's completely unnecessary for all these nuclear weapons to exist. Once accidental malfunction, and we're all dead. Pointless.
We really should go back to beating people with sticks and clubs, they don't destroy or harm other animals.

Virus and bacteria. See the Ebola stuff, for example, and the Spanish flu. I think the more deadly are human made biological weapons .

With animals at least you have a chance to run or fight back, but nowhere to hide from microscopic beings.

Fungus can also be dangerous.

You know, we humans created these monsters by developing drugs to kill them, making them resistant to current drugs.

Yes we perfectly can. All we have to do is launch all of the nukes we have at all of the nuclear plants we have.
Done, earth destroyed easily. It's not destroyed, but nearly all life will be wiped out. Done.
Or we could create a microscopic black hole to swallow the earth. That works too. Or launch tonnes of antimatter at earth, but we haven't reached that point yet.

No, wrong.

Quote
Terraforming (literally, "Earth-shaping") of a planet, moon, or other body is the theoretical process of deliberately modifying its atmosphere, temperature, surface topography or ecology to be similar to the biosphere of Earth to make it habitable by Earth-like life.

The term "terraforming" is sometimes used more generally as a synonym for planetary engineering, although some consider this more general usage an error.

Wrong word there. What you want to say is Planetary Engineering, and not terraforming.

Planetary Engineering is not used by people in the field (certainly not here at JPL).  Carl mentioned it a few times after it was cited by Fred, but otherwise it is generally regarded as terraforming.  Earth was terraformed many times prior to life evolving and nuclear fallout onto the landmasses would terraform it again - just would take a few million years for the bacteria to clear the decay.

Please don't cite Wikipedia.  Those entries are not correct.  Anybody here at JPL would argue the same point.

A mosquito is an insect, not an animal. Malaria isn't a living organism at all, it's a sickness caused by a unicellular microorganism named Plasmodium Sporozoite.

Insects are a class of invertebrates within the arthropod phylum that have a chitinous exoskeleton, a three-part body (head, thorax and abdomen), three pairs of jointed legs, compound eyes and one pair of antennae. They are among the most diverse groups of animals on the planet...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Insect

Insects are animals belonging to Kingdom Animalia.

Oh. Alright, I didn't know that. Learnt something new.
Anyway, it's like the black death, it's the rats/fleas that bite people, but they do that anyway, it's because they are carrying a microorganism that causes the disease.

Is virus and bacteria even consider a creature?

Title: Re: The most dangerous creature of our planet

Is virus and bacteria even consider a creature?

They are considered as microbes, along with fungi. They are microscopic, meaning that you can't see them with the naked eye, but they are still "alive", with the exception of viruses, since we still don't know if they are alive or not. There are other things that are considered microbes too, but they're not dangerous or deadly.

So, as an answer to your question, it would depend what your definition of "creature" is.

Virus and bacteria is the most dangerous

In that,
knob heads who try to create every-time new viruses are much more dangerous

Nobody's trying to create new viruses?

They can create new strains by themselves because of their fast evolution.

The most deadly in terms of toxin would be Clostridium botulinum.
I would agree. Just imagine that few kilograms of toxin produced by Clostridium botulinum will be enough to kill all mammals on the Earth.

The most ridiculous thing to me is that people willfully inject it, its called Botox...

Oh that swan video cracked me up.  I wonder how many of the people voting human are a little narcissistic.  When was the last time you relieved yourself in your bathroom sink or on the faucet?  The majority of animals and all other lifeforms have to no problem leaving waste to contaminate their food/water supply - some of us humans actually care about that.

Well, next to humans, the answer is obviously mosquitoes. They spread all sorts of diseases and parasites and considering the number of people that die of Malaria due to mosquito bites, they win out by a mile.

Is there anything more dangerous than us humans? I mean we can destroy most of other creature and ourself, no other visible sized creature can match our number, for our activity lives we live quite long (the creatures that outlive us, are slow paced, like turtles or whales are quite slow moving, or trees that don't move) and potentially we could destroy the planet and render it lifeless being it by accident (global warming turning Earth into a second Venus) or on purpose (nuclear warfare ....)

Maybe they'll put little methane collecting gas bags on them like they do with cows. Then we can save the wetlands and the planet from global warming at the same time.

As most of the posts, I would vote for our kind, humans. And the best part is, we can make other species dangerous too (as in getting species to new enviroments where they don't have any natural enemis).

It's termite, and because they produce pretty awesome amount of gas called methane :)

Well I think this question should be specific. But humans are the worst of creatures. But if were talking non-humans the most dangerous can vary depending on the location like a shark could be the most dangerous water and snake for desert. etc.
