Title: Bitcoin Feeding The Homeless Post by: jack107 on August 11, 2014, 10:35:30 AM From the 22nd - 25th of August two people from WorldAidCoin (WAC) are going around the Melbourne CBD handing out paper wallets to homeless people.
They have teamed up with a joint called Hero Subs who make sandwiches and the homeless person can go to an outlet and cash in their wallet for a sub and drink. Think this is a fantastic way for bitcoin to get some positive publicity and also just an easy way to help people. Great to see cryptos, even ALT coins being able to help people in need. Check out www.facebook.com/worldaidcoin who have made this project happen. Title: Re: Bitcoin Feeding The Homeless Post by: gondel on August 11, 2014, 10:52:03 AM Hello
Happy to hear that! Think the problem is that homeless people will not be able to buy again. They will use it just one time to buy food and think of it as somekind of vaucher for food. The good thi g is that they will do some charity BR Title: Re: Bitcoin Feeding The Homeless Post by: jack107 on August 11, 2014, 10:55:35 AM Hello Happy to hear that! Think the problem is that homeless people will not be able to buy again. They will use it just one time to buy food and think of it as somekind of vaucher for food. The good thi g is that they will do some charity BR Originally WAC wanted to direct them to a bitcoin ATM to get them familiarized with the system etc but they require loads of ID and a phone number which most homeless people wouldn't have. I'm pretty sure WAC will make a short video about what's going on and how WAC and BTC have fed homeless people and hopefully brings some positive attention to bitcoin and also World Aid Coin. Title: Re: Bitcoin Feeding The Homeless Post by: jack107 on August 11, 2014, 11:28:50 AM Where could they spend their btc? A place called Hero Subs http://herosubs.com.au/ This way they can get a meal and a drink with their wallet! I think it is a great thing to do if you guys really are legit (I just don't want people to get scammed, who try to do good things). If you like the idea, why not donate to Seans Outpost! He's also feeding the homeless, providing shelter and also bringing Bitcoin to the States, by doing this ultra marathon!!! No way anyone can really get scammed as WAC are meeting with Hero Subs before hand and sorting it all out to ensure it will all run smoothly. I'll also pass that on to WAC and see if they can get involved with helping him out. That sounds like a great cause too! Title: Re: Bitcoin Feeding The Homeless Post by: Rampton on August 11, 2014, 11:36:29 AM So are they handing out paper wallets in bitcoin or worldcoin, because otherwise this doesnt promote bitcoin much just a crappy alt.
Title: Re: Bitcoin Feeding The Homeless Post by: jack107 on August 11, 2014, 11:39:58 AM So are they handing out paper wallets in bitcoin or worldcoin, because otherwise this doesnt promote bitcoin much just a crappy alt. I wouldn't say crappy Alt when it's making things like this happen. The wallets will have bitcoin on them. Someone purchased a decent amount of WAC for Bitcoin so they are using that bitcoin to help people, which is the basis of the coin. Both bitcoin and WAC will obviously get publicity but Bitcoin always will stand out as many more people know about it. Title: Re: Bitcoin Feeding The Homeless Post by: Ron~Popeil on August 11, 2014, 01:19:19 PM Nice! Charitable activities for bit coin don't get the attention they should, but it helps people and spreads the word about bit coin and the generosity of the community. That is a win-win.
Title: Re: Bitcoin Feeding The Homeless Post by: oceans on August 11, 2014, 01:58:58 PM This is a brilliant thing to do and I have to admit it will bring some really great publicity knowing that bitcoin can help out in this way. With the number of homeless rising all the time this could be something that could work really well in the long run to helping those less fortunate.
Title: Re: Bitcoin Feeding The Homeless Post by: counter on August 11, 2014, 06:38:17 PM Awesome idea. I would love to see Bitcoin and places like soup kitchens and shelters accept Bitcoin. Donations would be coming form all over and if the did show how the coins were being used that would only incentive's more people to donate, I have no doubt.
Title: Re: Bitcoin Feeding The Homeless Post by: franky1 on August 11, 2014, 06:43:13 PM although treated as a voucher on the face of it. imagine the homeless lot, realising that after that day, where will they find food. and as such they would trade their spare bottle of cheap bear for the paper wallet. thus ensuring they get food for tomorrow aswell.
so all them drunks that want a beer more then a sandwich will trade them with the homeless that are truly hungry now notice the possibilities...(although it would just be a 2day atmost publicity event) Title: Re: Bitcoin Feeding The Homeless Post by: heybigboy1 on August 11, 2014, 09:30:32 PM This is a great thing that they're doing. Should be getting the word spread even more about BTC

I know World aid coin is actually running a soup kitchen later this month but yeah would be great to see them all accept bitcoin. Title: Re: Bitcoin Feeding The Homeless Post by: hopenotlate on August 11, 2014, 10:15:50 PM Find it is a great idea: it contributes to provide to bitcoin a good image, very different tfrom the one of the silk road/drugs/weapons equation.
this way people may be more interested in getting closer to the bitcoin world. Title: Re: Bitcoin Feeding The Homeless Post by: lihuajkl on August 11, 2014, 10:24:51 PM Increase the good reputation of BTC. let more people know BTC.
Title: Re: Bitcoin Feeding The Homeless Post by: Slark on August 11, 2014, 11:01:33 PM It sure are great for publicity and recognition of bitcoin everywhere. But giving homeless people money/bitcoin is not good ideal in general. They don't need our money they need a way to earn money, it is like giving man a fish when you can give him a fishing rod instead it is just marketing stun.

They don't need our money they need a way to earn money, it is like giving man a fish when you can give him a fishing rod instead it is just marketing stun. How do you suggest giving them a fishing rod, as you say? Are you saying they shouldn't give out paper wallets? I understand what you're saying but surely the homeless person would be happy to get a free meal for the night. Getting homeless people a regular income is an issue of much larger scale and one that many places all over the world face. Title: Re: Bitcoin Feeding The Homeless Post by: catlinhappy on August 12, 2014, 02:25:20 PM It good to provide for homeless but where will they spend Btcoins
Title: Re: Bitcoin Feeding The Homeless Post by: countryfree on August 12, 2014, 11:28:35 PM Sounds like a poor idea to me. We already have food stamps, but frankly cash is the best solution for the small shopping a homeless can afford. The blockchain wasn't created to record all the sodas, sandwiches and beer sales on the planet. I would never use BTC to pay for any of those items. Cash is just easier.
Title: Re: Bitcoin Feeding The Homeless Post by: Candystripes on August 13, 2014, 03:21:03 AM Yeah and what if they never claim it or something, or lose it.
If they gave out only $10K, and 1% lost the sheet. $100 gone. Just give out coupons... nothing to lose but paper. A lot of homeless people do not receive food stamps for any number of reasons. Likely mainly because of ignorance of the food stamp program, but also because they are not eligible because of prior convictions, or they quit their job. Title: Re: Bitcoin Feeding The Homeless Post by: newflesh on August 13, 2014, 02:30:33 PM Think this is great news, promotes the positives of btc and helps feed the homeless at the same time. Win - win situation :)
Title: Re: Bitcoin Feeding The Homeless Post by: Daniel91 on August 13, 2014, 02:40:02 PM It's great to use Bitcoin in this way, help people in need.
In this way, we can help homeless people and show the world the power of Bitcoin. |
