Title: @theymos-Update on the new forum?
Post by: cryptopaths on August 13, 2014, 12:01:33 AM
Can we get some sort of Update on what's going on with the new forum?

Wangbus made this statement in June.
We are shooting for Alpha in August. Thanks for your patience.

It's already halfway through august so what's going on?

It's a competing forum that was created because of how long it is taking for the new forum to be released.

Forget about the new forum software. Slickage Studios were supposed to make a new ad auction system for the current forum software ages ago.

It was the first thing they were supposed to make, yet theymos is still using threads to auction forum ads.

Where's the ad auction system?

I believe that is going to be tested live very soon. See one of his latest auctions as it states in there.

Honestly, ipboard has pretty much all the features that are needed.

IPBoard is a commercial closed source project. Thats not suitable for our needs. Theymos needs something that can easily be modified and audited.

A lot of people underestimate how difficult of a forum BitcoinTalk is to run in comparison to others of similar size. No other forum of this size has so many scammers, spammers, FUDsters and hackers. Look at the sheer number of accounts hacked everyday - there is NO other forum that has a hacking problem of that scale. We really do need our own custom software to meet our needs, everything else out there just doesn't work for us.

Also I like how this thread was buried. It was fine in the main meta section, nobody will see it here now.

I'm very glad that people are looking forward to the new forum. The Alpha-Preview should be up by the end of the month as planned. Our team is working very hard. Development is happening everyday on Github.

Aha, I had forgotten about that github page.

Great to hear that you guys are on schedule.

Alpha-Preview will be done by end of August. Not the whole forum.

Being that it's an Alpha release, don't expect much other than a working forum. None of the bells and whistles should be expected.

Who will be able to test it? Everyone?

Hopefully I'll get a look in to see how smushed my guides will get. Although any improvement from BBcode tables will be welcomed. Fuck you BBcode so hard, seriously.

Since the github pages for the new forum are public, anyone can install and run it but don't expect any support yet. It is still in alpha. So feel free to browse the code and if you're brave enough, install it. (It really just one command to install anyway)

We won't have a public staging server up. So if you guys don't have node installed or aren't comfortable setting that up, please wait till a later release. But feel free to keep watching our github repos. Those are all public.

If I get a chance I'll set it up on a public server so people can try it out without installing.
