Direct Dice  is a Provably Fair block-chain based dice betting game where your goal is to predict the roll of the dice.

What Provably Fair means is that there is no way we can cheat you by picking numbers to make you lose. The roll of the dice is completely random.

To achieve a Provably Fair Direct Dice the following technique is used :

When you order a Direct Dice  bet we generate a random secret that is used to generate the dice roll. Obviously we can not reveal the secret before the dice is rolled because this will allow you to know in advance the outcome of the roll. Therefore, we scramble the secret in a special technique called hashing using SHA256 cryptographic algorithm and present the hashed secret in the Bet Status page. The only way to reproduce the hashed secret is by hashing the original secret. Later on, after the game is over, we will reveal the original secret used, and you will be able to hash it yourself and verify that the result is identical to the hashed secret presented to you before the roll of the dice. This will prove that we did indeed used the secret that was designated to your bet.

To ensure that we don't know in advance the outcome of the dice roll, we add another random value which is not in our control, and that is the transaction ID of your bet transfer, as it appears in the block chain.

The Direct Dice  is then rolled as follows :

We create a string that includes your bet transfer transaction ID followed by the number of the bet in the transaction followed by the original secret. If your bet transfer transaction includes a single bet, the number of the bet is 1, otherwise if you send multiple bets in the same transaction the bet number is the index number of the bet output in the transaction where the first bet gets the number 1 and all non bets outputs are not counted. We hash the string result using SHA512 cryptographic algorithm. We then take the first 5 characters of the result, which are 5 Hexadecimal Digits, and convert them into a decimal number. Finally, we multiply that number by 101 and divide it by 1048575. All digits after the decimal points are discarded and the result is The Lucky Number which is a number between 0 and 101.

The probability to roll any number between 0 and 100 is identical to all numbers and is equal to approx. once every 101 rolls. The probability to roll 101 is approx. once every 1 million rolls.

If the Lucky Number is 0 the bet will always lose. This is the house edge which is equal to 0.99%.

If the Lucky Number is 101 the bet will always win. If the bet stake is at least 0.01 BTC, 1 LTC, 2 DRK or 20,000 DOGE and is not part of a losing Toto ~ Parlay slip, the bet will also be eligible for the current Jackpot, as advertised on our website. To claim the Jackpot prize you will need to post here your winning bet slip.

If the Lucky Number is between 1 and 100, the outcome of the bet will be determined based on your selection.

Your bet will confirm as soon as the bet transfer is received and the dice will be rolled as soon as there is 1 confirmation in the block chain for your bet transfer.

In case of a win we will deduct from the payout amount a fee to cover the charges made by the network to transfer your winnings. The fee amount is 0.0001 BTC, 0.001 LTC, 0.001 DRK or 1 DOGE, depends on the coin used for betting. Note that this fee is not charged for any of our sport bets, it is only applicable to Direct Dice bets. If you combine a dice bet with a sport bet in a Toto ~ Parlay, no fee will be charged.

Could you please specify in your rules that the secret is hashed using SHA-256? I placed this bet (a winner  ;D) http://directbet.eu/BetStatus.cshtml?BetID=1EkjYMCu4XELUdnr9hNQG1Rx6x3DyHuGnr and was provided the secret hash, and then after 4 confirmations the secret was revealed.

I still don't get the 'no house edge' part.
If I bet 10 BTC, I will get 0.05 BTC in return. This is 0.5%
The house edge under 10BTC is 0.99%. This leaves a 0.49% house edge.

Direct Dice built-in house edge is 0.99%. Once you factor in the Jackpots the house edge is essentially 0.9%. Now if you reach 10,000 loyalty points during the month, you get 0.5% back, so the house edge is 0.4%. If you reach 100,000 loyalty points during the month, you get 0.8% back for a total house edge of 0.1%. Finally, if you reach any of the higher VIP Reward milestones, you actually have a small edge on the house.

To summary, the house edge depends on how much you bet during the month and for a limited time the most frequent bettors enjoy a small edge over the house.

The only way to get 101, is to get "FFFFF" in the first 5 characters of the sha512 result, and the chance for that is 1 in 2^20.

Lots of people on the PrimeDice thread are upset with Stunna because they bet "too much" to build up their faucet payments, with a view to using the increased faucet payments to recover their losses. Now he's cutting the faucet payments and people feel like they've been deceived.

Thanks for your questions. Please allow me to clarify :

Direct Dice built-in house edge is 0.99%, however, frequent bettors receive a rebate of up to 1% of their bets stake through our VIP Rewards Program so if you reach the highest VIP level, you will actually have 0.01% edge on the house. In addition, you will be freerolling on the Jackpot because the 0.99% built-in house edge does not factor in the Jackpot.

Currently Direct Dice is +EV for the most frequent bettors and even if you reach just the second VIP level, you will still enjoy a very low 0.2% house edge, and that's before factoring the Jackpot.

Obviously, in the long run, we can not keep the small edge that players can currently have on the Direct Dice. What we will do in the future is reduce the amount of loyalty points that you will earn for each Direct Dice bet so that players will not have an edge.

We will probably keep the no house edge for the most frequent bettors, but will eliminate the small edge that players can currently gain over the house.

I can not tell at this point when this will happen, however, we will give out an advanced notice, and the change will get into effect on the following month so this will not affect players who are in the process of earning VIP rewards as they are awarded on a monthly basis.

The Bet ID is the Bitcoin address where you have to send your bet to.

Once you send in your bet, it gets a secondary ID, which is the block-chain transaction ID of your bet transfer.

If you send multiple bet transfers to the same bet, they will all be listed together on the same Bet Status page under the Bet ID, and each transfer will be identified by its transaction ID.

The bet ID identifies the bet that you ordered (event, selection, betting option, secret, etc.) while each bet transfer is identified by its block-chain transaction ID.

Thanks for answering all my questions. That all seems very reasonable.

I have a couple of other concerns:

1) When you give me the address to send coins to, you state that the bet may be cancelled under certain rare circumstances, but don't explain what those would be. Why might you cancel my bet? It would suck if you accepted 99 losing bets then cancelled the one 100x winning one.

2) You state the max bet (for "even number") is 7.7 BTC. Does that change often? What if it changes between you telling me it's 7.7 BTC and my bet transaction getting a confirmation, such that by the time the 7.7 BTC is confirmed it is then over the max bet?

3) Do you do any kind of "proof of solvency"? I don't know what kind of a bankroll you need to spread a 7.7 BTC bet at evens with 0% house edge and not risk going bankrupt, but I imagine it's considerable. If someone gets very lucky, can you afford to pay them out? If so, are you willing to prove it by signing a message with the address of your cold wallet?

If what they do is similar to the sportsbook, then you should worry. Be careful of loop holes. You lose on ties in the sportsbook in basketball and UFC. Bets also get held up for 20 minutes or more before knowing if you have a bet. While they say it's rare, it happens all the time. Their definition of rare is very loose.

At what point is the secret revealed?

I read somewhere that you allow "instant verification", which I guess means you reveal the secret as soon as the deposit transaction confirms. If that's the case, can I really use the same address for multiple bets? Or is that a relic from sports betting?

What if I send multiple bets to the same address in a single transaction. Would those be settled as separate bets, with different rolls? Or how would you handle that? SatoshiDice incorporates the output number into the hashing as well as the txid, so they can process multiple bets per transaction.


If you are really offering a +EV game, you can expect to attract lots of attention, and lose a lot of coins. I'm curious to know how many coins you have available to lose, and whether you are willing to offer cryptographic proof of your ownership of them.

People come out of the woodwork for +ev casino games. You know what you are talking about. Back in the day guys were raping the fiat books using big bonuses for +ev games. I don't know much about casinos but 9/5 jacks or better with a bonus is still nice.

There's no way that could happen using old-fashioned on-chain betting. Especially if you wait for a confirmation on each bet. Those 5 bets would have taken roughly an hour to run on your site, whereas I got the whole tedious process over within just 14 seconds.

You can use Direct Dice to place multiple bets simultaneously, you don't have to wait for the payout before rolling the dice again.

Alternatively, for faster payouts Direct Dice can be played with Dogecoins.

Once you transfer your Dogecoin Direct Dice bet, you will have your winnings back in your wallet in about a minute.

That's a subjective matter but I believe most people will prefer to wait a minute for payouts rather than lose money.

That's incorrect and can be proven mathematically.

Suppose for example that you have 10 BTC and you place 2,000 dice bets of 0.5 BTC each in a dice game with 1% edge.

So you place a total of 1000 BTC bets and since the house edge is 1% you are expected to lose 10 BTC therefore your EV is -100%.

You are expected to lose it all.

Now take this example and apply it to Direct Dice. Convert the 10 BTC to Dogecoin and play with Direct Dice.

Since Direct Dice features no house edge, your EV is neutral and you can have fun and enjoy the game as much as you like. In the long run you are not expected to either win or lose and maybe you will get lucky in the process and hit the Jackpot.

Now even if you believe that holding Dogecoin is a minus EV proposition, the EV for holding it is never -100%. For holding Dogecoin to be -100% EV you need to be certain that it will die while you hold it (i.e. play with Direct Dice), which can not be the case since you can never be so certain.

Even if the Dogecoin will lose some of its value while you play with Direct Dice you will still be better off because as in the first example you are expected to lose your entire 10 BTC anyhow by playing at another dice game.

Therefore, converting your Bitcoin to Dogecoin to play with no house edge at Direct Dice is much better than playing with another dice game that has 1% edge.

There's probably a name for that kind of logical fallacy.

You started with "Suppose for example that you have 10 BTC", then used that supposition to draw the conclusion that "therefore your EV is -100%", and then somehow drew the conclusion that the EV is -100% for all 1% edge dice games, even when playing with DOGE.

But what if I have 100 billion DOGE and play 2,000 dice bets of 0.5 DOGE each in a dice game with 1% edge?

I place a total of 1000 DOGE, expect to lose 10 DOGE which is about 0.000% of my 100 billion. Therefore my EV is about 0.000%.

So using the same logic as you used I just proved that 1% games have the same EV as 0% games.

So a Parlay is where the winnings from each bet become the stake for the next bet, and a Toto is a special kind of Parlay which acts just a regular kind? Neither seems to be allowing me to split my bet into smaller independent bets though.

We're specifically talking here about your concern that if you convert BTC to DOGE to play at Direct Dice you will lose from DOGE decrease in value.

I showed that even if DOGE value does indeed decrease while you're playing, you would still be better off playing with Direct Dice thanks to the no house edge because with other dice games you are destined to eventually lose it all anyhow.

Your subject line is misleading.  There is not a 0% house edge. 

Even in your "perfect" no house edge scenario, if someone bets 1000 BTC they get 10 BTC back but they have to wager the 10 BTC, thereby providing you with another house edge.  If you just gave the person 10 BTC with no strings attached then fine it would make more sense but right now it's totally incorrect DirectBet.

Direct Dice built-in house edge is 0.99%. If someone bets 1000 BTC, they are expected to lose 9.9 BTC and in the process they are getting back 10 BTC in free bets for a net profit of 0.1 BTC.

Now lets say the 10 BTC free bet is spent on Direct Dice without a reward for it (that's not really the case because you do get loyalty points for all the free bets except the last one), so you're expected to lose 0.099 BTC from the free bets, which is offset from the 0.1 BTC profit that you already have.

So the bottom line is that Direct Dice does indeed features 0% house edge for frequent bettors. And remember that this is before factoring in the Jackpot.

Site sucks. Trying to find a way to prove the dice is rigged cause my friend played the dice and literally lost in ways the odds couldn't support being just luck...

Is there any way that the first rolls could have rigged server seeds? The server seeds aren't generated until you make your selection of what you want to bet. For example if you want to bet 1-50 is the roll outcome at 2x, IT THEN generates a server seed. Is there any way they create a seed that more often then not produces losing rolls since they know what it is I'm going to bet?

I don't think so. Even though the site knows what you are going to bet, the bet result depends on your Tx ID which is solely controlled by the player.

Not any longer. Loyalty points are now tracked separately for each payout address.

I just did the re-tweet with my twitter @twisterswirl and sending you a PM of the bet I placed.

I actually created 2 bets but the first one is on a sporting event but I realized later that any kind of sporting bet needs to be placed 7 hours prior to the start of the event, so kindly cancel that and allow the second one.

Edit: Went ahead and placed the sports bet from my own money and won :D Lost the free twitter share bet though. Great site, received my earnings instantly after the result.
