I guess you live in a state which hasn't reformed yet?  Move!  It's no fun being processed through the system for a non-violent drug offense.  Unless your state has started to decriminalize and it is just a ticket.  We lock up more people than any other country because of our silly laws.

In the UK there has been several attempts to decriminalize cannabis. Unfortunately the fear mongering press always responds with the mother of a dead kid on it front page. Its hard to argue with a dead kids mother and it is then criminalized again. Even if the link between the dead kid and cannabis is a tenuous one.

California.  Times are good here.  Right now all I see in the news (alternative news) is that we are fighting a bill again zero tolerance DWI using cannabis metabolite testing.  The problem with the test is that the metabolites are in your system for weeks, not just right when you medicate.  It would effectively outlaw driving for all medical cannabis users due to epic science FAIL.  There is no way it's gonna pass.  Actually, now that I think about it, times recently got rough here for most dispensaries.  All the shady ones got raided and shut down.  They were in the wrong zone for the business or they were taking profits, or something.  I'm kind of glad that happened because it cleaned things up and left the good ones.  All those shops went delivery only, though.

I dont do the hard stuff, that was in my youth, although LSD was fun, and relatively harmless in my eyes if you didnt over do it..
And MDMA is just a quick way to find out if your heart has no defects, so..  not very safe in my eyes..

Want to get your state to legalize weed? Cut them in on the profits. As poor a reason as it is, the tax revenue is why states like CA are allowing it.
Loudmouths with no understanding will try arguing that it is for health reasons. If that were the case then why the hell would tobacco and alcohol be legal? Others will say that it is because of an association with crime. Nice circular reasoning there. Make something illegal then say only criminals use it.
The "drug war" started when I was in high school. Since then it has only hurt a lot of people. It has not stopped anyone from using, or even raised the price much. What a total boondoggle! The real question is not why legalize it, rather why is it illegal in the first place?

I have seen deer clean up harvested peyote buttons. I regret I didn't see them afterwards.
