This whole idea of a reputation system where people anonymously click on a +1 or a -1 button is just silly.

What is really disturbing is that you don't know why you have a minus or a plus.

I think that anonymous ranking might be good (because it avoid the "friend factor") but, at least, you should know what messages were appreciated and what weren't.

Let's hate on the rating system instead of each other.

if you want good rating, just say what people want to hear  :D

The forum has a setting to allow only "+" ratings not "-". That would remove a lot of the objections to the rating system.

I'm just going to ignore it. Look at how peoples scores do not match their actual reputations.

I also have -1 for some reason, I didn't even know. I'm guessing there's some bot on here that does it for teh lulz...

I think that you're on to something. Instead of showing + and - it should just show the net rating which is really what matters*.

*not that it actually matters

That seems to be par for the course in online communities, especially at the beginning (I remember when it seemed like at least a quarter of all Slashdot comments were bitching about either comments being rated ("5, Informative?  The mods are on the good shit, I see.") or about the karma system).

+1 ... well, not quite, I'm plainly ignoring that "feature", so I won't be pressing that "+" sign anyway, sorry. But still, you get my +1 plus reasons, it's much better.

Neither do I, however I do like to know why someone disagrees or agrees with me, it's an issue of being rational.

Due to the nature of this forum I would appreciate it within the Marketplace, outside it may look odd... so a newcomer may be lead to believe someone with +something is "honest" when indeed that "+something" just express mostly his philosophical and political views and has nothing to do with his honesty.

It would seem someone just went on a -1'ing spree. With only 8 posts and I already have one? Come on! If I'm going to be smitten, I want to at least feel I deserved it.  ;D
