Title: 5850 Not Up To Speed
Post by: watwugy on May 08, 2011, 11:04:43 PM
My 5850 is only generating about 220 mhash/s. I've seen many getting around 300/s. Does anyone know what could be causing this? I have no graphically intense processes running, and my drivers are all up to date, so why isn't my card performing like it should?

OS?
Miner?
Drivers?
ATi Stream Version?
5850 Model Numbers?

I get 400Mhash/s using;
OS: Windows XP x86
Miner: Phoenix 0.3 or 0.4
CCC: 10.12
Sapphire 5850 Toxic 1Gb

Clocks;
core: 1050
memory: 1200 effective (300)
volt: 1.25

Convery, how did you manage to be able to adjust the voltage?

some cards, namely reference ones, can adjust voltage. :p

I have same issue.  I have a Sapphire 5850 Xtreme:

OS: Windows 7
Miner: POCLBM GUI (any flags will cause the miner to crash)
Drivers: Latest
ATI Stream: 10.4
5850 Model number: Sapphire 5850 Xtreme Edition 1GB

Mine rate: 220 Mh/s @ stock clock, 240 Mh/s @ 775 Mhz, 262 Mh/s @ 850 Mhz

My card is not stable at 900Mhz so I have not tried it yet, I will probably need to adjust the voltage.

Weird.  I get 270MH/s with the same card (Sapphire 5850 Xtreme) at stock speeds.

Not familiar with stream 10.4... do you mean the CCC version?  I use 10.11.

I get ~320MH/s @ 850/1000 with the same card at stock voltage.

I use latest drivers and poclbm gui with flags -v -w128 -f0.

You can adjust the voltage of this card with the latest Sapphire Trixx.

I bought 3 Sapphire 5850 Xtreme last week, and 2 of them i can get about 330Mh/s at 880/340 at stock volt stable, if i push the voltage to 1.25 i can get them to about 980 core and about ~400 Mh/s
The other one is stable at 930/340 at stock volt (1.088) giving about 360 Mh/s and is able to give me almost 415 Mh/s when overvolted.
The problem is that if i set the vcore to 1.25 it generates way too much heat and also the (electric) cost of running them supersedes the gain.

I'm looking for a stock 5850 reference cooler. Anyone have a dead reference 5850 card with a working fan/cooler that would be willing to sell me? I'm in USA. I can give up to 15 BTC depending on how fast I can get it.

Well, Sapphires forums and reviews said that you couldn't increase the voltage but I just opened Trixx (Sapphires overclocking tool) and adjusted it. Only bad part is that my 7 year old PSU exploded =P

But with my new PSU the maximum stable (and what I use) is 402Mhash, you can go up to 430Mhash but then you bluescreen after a few hours and my computer is being a bitch when it comes to rebooting.. Also the card never goes above 65C and is placed without a chassis right next to my bed so needless to say it's quiet enough :3
