Title: If 40+ TH, solo mining...
Post by: HiSoC8Y on September 08, 2014, 06:18:24 PM
Ok, i'm just dreaming of 40 TH solo mining, trying to plug #s and see if it's possible.

How lucky to find blocks solo mining? Is it worth solo mining, or join a pool even with a 40+ TH?

Join a pool. You'd make a bitcoin a day I think.

You would make under 0.8BTC per day on average on a pool. Since a block is 25BTC currently, you have 0.8/25 or roughly a 3% chance to find a block.  In 11 day difficulty you have about 1 in 3 chance before difficulty goes up, then chances drop to about 1 in 40.

Stick to pool mining.

ok, but how often do normal small miners find blocks themselves solo mining?  If i ask you, going through the blocks, can you tell me the last time a solo small miner found a block?

The formula for calculating expected time to block is:
Code:
Difficulty * 2^32 / hash rate / 86400 = number of days to find a block
So, with 40TH/s right now, you would expect to find a block every 34 days or so.  Of course, that will change in about 5 days when the difficulty changes.

Listen to the good doctor.  That 40TH/s will expect to earn you about 0.73BTC a day in a pool.

To take a quote from Hillary, "What does it matter?"  ;)

Each miner can easily calculate their chances by dividing their hash by the network guess of about 200PH, and multiplying by 140.

There is no way to confirm it but statisically barring some sort of trickery the distribution should be based on how much of the network is owned by small miners.  If every home miner combined makes less than 1/5 of the network, the less than 1/5 of all solves go to small miners.

Bitfury, KNC, AM and Bitmain combined are over 50% of the network.
