Title: Sapphire PURE Black AMD 990FX ? Post by: Olly_K on April 21, 2012, 06:40:23 PM anyone had any experience with this board ?
Looking to get 5 pci-e 16x extenders for it and have a couple of questions.... Does it support more than 4 GPUs? If I connect up the onboard molex connector, I shouldn't need powered risers, right ? Thanks !! Title: Re: Sapphire PURE Black AMD 990FX ? Post by: scifimike12 on April 22, 2012, 02:10:43 AM Why don't you get a 990FXA-GD65. It may not have six x16 PCIe slots but it does have six PCIe (x1 and x16) slots. Also has PCIe auxiliary power instead of Molex which is a little better.

Instead, go for max amount of PCI-E slots, or 4 max if you intend on using dual GPU cards such as 5970/6990/7990, and using 1x > 1x pci-e ribbon cables since 16x > 16x dont bend very well and can break. I had 4 16x > 16x and they all eventually broke (places where the pins solder on broke). Now I use 1x > 1x and my cards are happily mining away. I had to short presence pins on all slots that I had 1x > 1x ribbon cables in but it's fine with me.
Right now there is a 6-slot board on newegg for $110. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130565R BTW if you DO decide to use 1x > 1x cables, you'll very likely need to file off the end of the slot to allow plugging in a 16x. Had an extra 1x > 1x lying around still in the bag to show a before/after. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9768004/risermod.png Title: Re: Sapphire PURE Black AMD 990FX ? Didn't really want to be messing around with cutting risers and stuff, just want to plug and play so maybe some 1-16x risers are on the agenda. |
