Braintree is obviously Paypals first dip into Bitcoin. Whatever the result of this experiment will be for them will have far reaching consequences for the future of Bitcoin. Best case scenario is that it gets adopted into ebay an then other big sites follow suit.

I propose that we pledge an amount of BTC to spend at Braintree sites in Bitcoin. That could be 5% of your holdings on Airbnb, 1% on Uber etc (https://www.braintreepayments.com/clients).

Will probably spend Bitcoin on AirBNB at some point in the near future. May even be more than 5% depending on how things go. I just hope Braintree does a better job of integrating Bitcoin than the White House has done rolling out that Obamacare website. (Won't be hard to do it better though :P.) Any word on exactly when the rollout is going to be?

I need to see some discounts. Why should I spend my BTC?

Braintree clients each needs to actively create an account with Coinbase to enable Bitcoin payments. Were there any reports on Airbnb planning to do so?

CEO of Braintree said that Airbnb is interested at Techcrunch disrupt.

LOL ... now even Bitcoiners need an incentive to use Bitcoin.   Not just the *entire* consumer public :)

How can you already pledge to spend a certain amount without even knowing their structure or fees yet? If they rape you with 15% premium fee, are you still going to pledge 5% of your holdings?

Without knowing exactly what fee's I may be charged or how things will work yet I am unwilling to pledge anything until I know for sure I am not going to end up spending way more than I expect. I understand why people would want to do this as it's a big step for bitcoin however high fee's if that ends up being the case are not something I am willing to pay.

Because if many people spend BTC at Braintree sites, Bitcoin price will go down a bit and you can rebuy Bitcoin cheaper - here is your discount

If Uber starts accepting Bitcoin I will spend 1 BTC on Uber Rides. Never used their services in the past but will consider it now if they do.

I don't think it is so much a good idea to spend money that you would not otherwise spend at a site just because they accept bitcoin. It is a better idea to take the fact that a site accepts bitcoin into consideration when determining where to buy from and to give priority to sites that do accept bitcoin.

Right. It's too bad Braintree itself isn't processing the Bitcoin payments. The whole point of Braintree is supposed to be that they take end to end responsibility for the transaction. You don't have to have a merchant account at a bank to accept payments with Braintree.

But to accept Bitcoins, you have to have a Coinbase account. Now you have two parties to argue with if (when) a payment is screwed up.
