That's a lotta coins to move all at once, to one location.   Consider splitting them into 10's at the very largest, when you get them back.

Yes. They can't be lost due to an orphaned block.

Just don't lose the private keys.

Your coins aren't lost. The transaction will either get picked up later, or forgotten, in which case all you gotta do is remove that tx from the wallet via editor, and you get your coins back.

you can use multibit to load your wallet and reset it to an earlier point and respend the transaction with a higher fee in which case either it will be accepted with the higher fee or rejected if the first transaction is already too deep in the chain and gets a confirmation.

Exactly. The OP is just trolling because there have been so many orphaned blocks (for unknown reasons) recently. More likely then not the transaction will simply be confirmed on the next block that actually confirms

There was a problem on blockchain.info last night. Blockchain.info displayed recent blocks as orphaned although it wasn't true. Other block explorers and clients (including Bitcoinqt) worked fine (for me).

I had a transaction pending when the problem occured but when blockchain.info recovered at noon@GMT, everything was fine.

OP could be a troll, but it's possible that he just panicked.

I am going to give OP the benefit of the doubt that he just panicked. (Rather than a troll)

Although the original post didn't sound very panicky, if he really thought he lost his life savings  :-[

Unless its a bitpay type transaction that would require that amount to be sent, I would never send that amount at one time. Although many people do. I always do a test transmission, just to make sure, once the test amount gets there, then ill send the rest.. I do this with anything over 5btc,

He edited his post once it was clear that he had made a mistake.

I guess all you have to do is wait for sometime before it gets reverted back to the sender address. Do not loose your private key. And do not transfer such a big amount in one go. Split them if you may, also, do not send them to a single BTC address, generate multiple addresses so not all coins are in one location.

yeah, private key is damn important, don't lose it, you may tell someone you trust or put it somewhere only you can find, Don't put all coins in just one location.
