Title: Changing username
Post by: PRC_May on September 14, 2014, 08:44:34 PM
Is it possible to change ones username with the help of a mod?

Starting a new one sucks with history, trust etc. connected.

Only theymos can do that and he rarely does, though I've seen it happen before so you might get lucky. PM him with your desired new name, but don't expect a response.

I believe that donators/VIPs are able to change their usernames (I am not sure if this is automatic or not). I have noticed that the TF account has changed usernames a number of times.

Pretty sure it is automatic for VIPs/Donators. Otherwise, the ability to change a username wouldn't be an extra perk. This is especially considering that theymos would have probably been more willing  to change someone's username back when people were buying VIP and Donator memberships.

Theymos changed my username around two years ago.  But the forum was a lot less busy back then.

May be you should start thinking about a "suitable" new username. :)

Adding or removing text to/from a username is particularly likely to be accepted because it doesn't make it significantly easier for someone to scam. Your identity isn't really changed. I tend to ignore requests for complete username changes except from veteran members. (Even then, it's one of the lowest-priority requests I receive, so it can be forgotten. I have kind of a "leaky queue" for forum work -- if I don't get to a request in a couple of days, I usually drop it.)

It'd just be removing the site affiliation if ever, so no big change.
Didn't think I'd use the account for other stuff when I made it. Usually just a reader.
