Title: Proposal for structured digital economy (UPDATED)
Post by: AntiVigilante on May 10, 2011, 04:14:44 PM
To all the fixers and tweakers and priests,

Get the hell out. Or realize that you are insane. And then get the hell out. By 'fixing' bitcoin you deny others the opportunity to use it as it is. What is it you people have against diversity? Free 'speech' software means you get to make your own. It does not mean you get to impose on others.

A list of bitcoin-like currencies: http://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=7500.0

For those that remain,

Fundamental to problem solving are reusable units. LEGO blocks are better than pieces with random shapes misfit together in some kind of new age orgy of imposed unity. The personal computer is better than myriad of incompatible systems of the 1950s. Eli Whitney and his interchangeable parts, remember him?

I propose a total of four levels of units.

The first is bitcoin:
Bitcoin - allows interchangeable standard which even an idiot can adapt to his own uses

No changes to the inherent limits.

The second level of fundamental units which can be pegged to bitcoin but do not require the 21 million limit because they are anchored to physical limitations:
Diskcoin - exchange storage space
Bandwidth - exchange transmission speed
Cyclecoin - exchange processing capability

None of the above will be allowed to be rented because they are fundamental units of the digital world.

The third level is a bridge between the second level and the fourth:
Servcoin - a basket currency that is a mix of whatever you choose to throw in from the fundamentals or the imitations.

These may be rented because they are fundamental to the interaction between the real world and the digital.

The fourth level is the crazy, hysterical, paranoid, experimental, and gonzo currencies a few people want to distort bitcoin into being:

the ones i like
timecoin
witcoin
namecoin
freicoin

the ones i don't like
everything else lol

Of course I'll link your proposals, that's what I made the list for. But I'd like to understand them first.
I don't understand the second and third levels.

Are they actual currencies or just defined units?
If they're currencies, how do they work?
Are they backed (with cpu, storage, bandwidth or a bascket of currencies) or something?

witcoin is not a web, isn't it?

I think that bitcoin shouldn't be changed too. It would be unfair for miners (and holders in general).

Yes they would be backed by a partial bitcoin reserve and actual availability.

Only servcoin can be rented. You can always rent the software / hardware. Bitcoin can be loaned of course.

it has various automatic features outside of bitcoin.

There's still physical myths imposed on the easily replicated digital world. While they ignore pseudo-physical attributes.

Insanity realy. Yes, I will raise a digital army if bitcoin is changed.

So when are you going to start developing these other softwares?
Do you want them? You can pledge for them or diy. Really that is what Free Software is about, not free dev.

I don't need the incentive as much as I need to cover the business of reality.

It took me some too long to realize (shame on me) but I think he's just joking about my post.
He likes bitcoin just as it is and thinks I'm crazy because I think interest is "bad".
The only thing that upsets me is that he lumps me together with Keynes and Bernanke.

Put out words which can be misunderstood and see which meanings win. The disputes expose inherent structure in an idea.

I'm not sure what you meant by "rented".  Could you explain, please?
