If Facebook or someone else buyout bitcoin, it would not be bitcoin anymore, it would be just another private payment system and most likely the hard core bitcoin users will shift to litecoin.

Facebook would be stupid if they bought bitcoins. There is no benefit to the company. Beyond the fact that they can buy lots of bitcoins, the author provides no reason other than this:

I think that many people confuse the idea of buying bitcoins with the goal of furthering development and adoption of Bitcoin.

It would be pointless to buy out all of the bitcoin (even though it's not possible), it would get rid of its value. It would be logical for Facebook to accept bitcoins as a payment system, although buying out bitcoin would be pointless.

They're more than welcome to add massive demand to the market and I might even let them have my stash for the right price. Of course, we'd have to add a few 0s onto the current number to even start negotiations. ;)
