I've got 10 BTC in my blockchain.info wallet.

I just signed in to check the price & I now have 10.00000003 BTC.

I clicked recent transactions & it's a normal long number/letter BTC address but says (BitGirl - Sexy Bitcoins) at the end.

There are 3 transactions by this address, 2/3 have been confirmed.

Is this something I need to worry about?

Nope, no need to worry.

They are likely trying to advertise a website or service.

You'll see people doing this with famous addresses such as the seized SR coins.

Since i am still new to this world. would that fill the wallet with dust?

One of the tips i got its to avoid receiving small amount of coins at your wallet to avoid dust.

They are just spamming . It is nothing to worry about.

You might want to work on your math a bit.

If one day 1 BTC is worth 1 million USD, that 0.00000003 BTC will be worth:

1 000 000 X 0.00000003 =  0.03 USD

Not many people would say that $0.03 is "worth something".

Depending on how far in the future you are talking about, inflation could make that $0.03 worth even less than it is today.  Assume that inflation causes USD prices to double every 7 years or so, and $0.03 fourteen years from now will be able to buy about the same amount as $0.0075 can buy today.

They have tagged their web link with their address so it's just a cheap way of advertising.

I've had 2 transactions from Luxo & 3 from Bitgirl or some kind of porn thing.

If you click on the transaction they've sent the same quantity to dozens of addresses.

No need to worry. It is nothing but just another method of advertising. Someone is trying to promote his site.

As the standard transaction fee is calculated per KB (rounding up), your transaction fee would be the same for having just 1 input or 6 inputs. So unless you receive a lot of dusts, it shouldn't be a problem. :)

Even then, it would be worth exactly 3 cents, i.e., enough to buy you about a spoonful of rice or flour perhaps.

On the other hand, a "spam" transaction of 5460 satoshis (i.e., the lower limit for a transaction to not be classified as non-standard) would definitely be worth a nice amount in the event of a 1 million USD Bitcoin. It would be worth $54.60, i.e., enough to pay for a bunch of pizzas or a night in a cheap hotel room.

Companies that wish to use transactions as a means of advertising should send 5,000-10,000 satoshis at a time. The extra expense would be almost negligible but at least then the people who receive these transactions might appreciate it more and maybe check the site out since they would have something nice to look forward to in the event that Bitcoin goes huge.

Someone is spamming obsecene messages, this is getting out of control. Imagine you have kids or you have a business and you are trying to have a profesional and serious image, then your address is spammed all over the place with obscene shit... this is definitely not nice. There should be a way to control this. Didn't Satoshi foresee something like this happening?

The "messages" you are talking about, is just a feature on blockchain.info.
Those messages do not exist in the blockchain ledger.

Monitor their computer use.  There isn't any reason for them to be on the blockchain.info site.


If you create a new address for EVERY transaction, then your customers won't see any spam on your address when you send it to them.


Satoshi recommended that you use a new address for EVERY transaction that you receive.  Addresses are not supposed to identify a person, they are only supposed to identify a single transaction received to your wallet.  If you choose not to use bitcoin the way that it was designed and intended, then you suffer the consequences of that mis-use.

Advertisements. I'm always amazed how people see those transactions and immediately open up a thread, it really shows how successful those transactions really are! It's more effective than any other form of advertisement here, it seems!

Yes they are. The transaction spammers are paying the standard 0.0001 btc / KB fee.
Take 0e086c09d4be8641ff301a2e61fc69392d92d96aa248c1f41015542cfe8f09eb as an example, the sender paid 0.0003 btc for the 2571-byte transaction.

I added my address to signature, maybe someday I will also get anything for free... if that indeed ever happens :)

Just choose "Custom" in "Send Money" section on blockchain.info.
If you want to attach a public note to your transaction on blockchain.info, your transaction outputs need to be at least 0.0001 BTC.

Whats the point of this? Advertisement? or just trying to fuck with us or the system? Sometimes they spam with messages that are websites so they are trying to promote them, but sometimes is straight retarded senseless stuff so.. whats the deal there.

Absolutely I would.  To do anything less would be to sacrifice my ethics and morals and become a thief.

This is just someone advertising some bs. Just make sure that you don't spend all that 3 satoshis in one place though! It can be very rewarding for people to send out advertisement spam like that, 1 satoshi is only worth $0.0000035. So if they use 10 dollars worth of btc and send that out, they can send out that to 2,857,142 people. Pretty effective use of advertising if I don't say so myself.

Fees might change those numbers though. I think it's possible to pay multiple addresses at once in a single transaction and pay only a single fee. Not sure if it would be possible to send 1 satoshi to millions of people in this way however.

Since bitcoin fee is calculated per transaction size (in unit of KB) rather than per transaction, fitting a huge amount of outputs in one single transaction wouldn't help much.

Also, according to the formula found on http://bitcoin.stackexchange.com/questions/1195/how-to-calculate-transaction-size-before-sending, a transaction with 1 million outputs will have a size of over 34 MB which is way over the current block size limit 1MB.

Size of the transaction (bytes) = 148 * number_of_inputs + 34 * number_of_outputs + 10

Not sure if such 100-btc mistake/refund happened before, but I have read a few cases of people making mistakes in raw transactions, paying huge tx fee (a few btc), and getting refund from the mining pools.

You don't need to worry about the safety your bitcoin. The spamming tx has nothing to do with stealing your bitcoin.
You should never re-use your addresses for better privacy whether there are spamming tx or not.

Sexy Spam using Bitcoin  :-*... don't worry because transactions are public and so your address can be visible to everyone, but don't worry because it's very difficult to associate an address to a person.

Indeed I actually did pay (at the time) the biggest transaction fee (around 110 BTC from memory) due to doing a raw transaction after days of working 15+ hours (so a stupid mistake) and was luckily refunded at least 100 BTC of it (I forget the exact figure but it's recorded on this forum somewhere).
