Quote
Two days after he was sent home from a Dallas hospital, the man who is the first person to be diagnosed with Ebola in the United States was seen vomiting on the ground outside an apartment complex as he was bundled into an ambulance.

All those that didn't see that coming, raise your hand.

"Can't believe all this death was caused by one dude coming to the US from Africa and vomiting on the street prior to being taken to the hospital by unprotected EMTs."

Who really cares if the US gets infected?  You'll have 150,000,000 less people - a LOT easier to find work!   :)

Perry would love such a crisis. No matter how badly he spins it, he'll use it politically.

The Black Death wiped out half of Europe, the survivors inherited a lot of land & wealth, in a lot of areas there were no nobles to serve or the nobles were desperate for any labour that they would bid for labour and this prosperity is what led to the Renaissance in Europe.

Hypothetically if half the United States perished then nobody would be homeless, there would be a lot of free luxury cars to pick from, you work the land it's yours in Iowa, et cetera.

There would be a boom in the arts as the notion of a 40 hour work week would likely dissipate.  If you are no longer enslaved to afford shelter or the pursuit of consumer goods (they'll be on the shelf for anybody to pick them up), then you are stuck with a lot of free time.

First thing the survivors will do is change the name from IOWA to... [?]

I disagree.  I believe if given the chance, the people today who have no hope would step up to the plate!

Lose half the population, I still think the US would have a 40 hour work week and a strong economy.

After all, look at the stats between 2000 and today.  Many people in the US have given up hope.  Wouldn't matter if they live or die.

Well I think it's explained on there, isn't it?  Half the population is probably children, pensioners or stay at home mom (and maybe people in the underground economy) and some legitimate unemployed people.

No... the term "US Work Force" probably means those who can work for pay.  Less people today than 2000.

They also have a stat for "Not in Labor force" and that number has increased since 2000.

The US population keep growing, but so does the numbers of those on a free ride via social services.

(I'm not trying to be an ass here towards the US - I would love to see similar Canadian numbers.)

I'm not entirely sure.  I don't think losing half the population would destroy nations.  Most countries survived the Black Death... technically survived, Byzantine Empire only disappeared because it was a ghost town after the plague.

Maybe the US gets depopulated and US Empire is destroyed by Mexicans?  :o

I see, now it makes sense - yeah that's bad if almost half the working age population isn't counted as employed.  I wonder how much of it is blackmarket as people can't really indefinitely live off savings.

Stop being silly.   Ebola could NEVER spread in the USA.   EVERYONE in the USA always washes their hands thoroughly.   We will stop this in its tracks...

To be completely neutral and ignore my homeland I will say this...

The US probably has the best sterility practices and the most money to throw at this issue.  If it spreads uncontrolled in the US, the rest of the world is probably subject to the same.

Speak for yourself some of us actually take precautions. Corporate Soap brands cause skin cancer, hair loss, acne, lesions, etc.

Ebola wouldn't be a problem if they had left it in the virus storage center but containment was obviously never the goal...

Well, I may be prejudiced by still holding my canadian passport (just in case global warming is real and the great lakes become like Cali), but I think Canada would have more chance of this not spreading.    Been in too many bars/casinos/schools etc. in the USA where the men's room really does not need that paper towel nor those sinks and soap....

Ok, I should say the US has the best MEDICAL sterility practices.  You are right about population density - there are a lot less people in Canada to get infected.  :)

Wait a minute.   I think you are reason I changed my preferences to not show avatars....    Ewww.   It is still burned in my memory.

Well moving to Canada wouldn't do you much good if there isn't anywhere to go or any job to work at.   There was still an economy in the middle of the Black Death, after all the guy who was pulling the cart picking up dead bodies probably wasn't a volunteer but had a family to feed.

My Canada reference was toward global warming.    The weather there could be good when the pacific is in Nevada and Nebraska no longer has a winter.    Not that scared of the plague.

Yes, Bruno -- That "official" that is certain we can stop the virus got his confidence from reading my post.  I put the stake in the ground first.    Gotta go.   Gotta wash my hands again...

http://www.nbcnews.com/video/nbc-news/56167066/#56167066

Pastor Yhenpu McCauley said that ebola is contagious just like breast cancer. Lucky for us she's a doctor and knows her shit. Where her shit stems home, well, I'm not sure, but after listening to her, I now have a clue.

The video I linked above was sourced as the number one video to watch next on NBC after viewing the video about the ABC newsperson and crew being flown back to the US after contacting ebola probably after conducting an interview with a person who has breast cancer.

So much misinformation being spewed!

Dallas: Within 48 hours, it went from only one person having ebola and all is well, to ~100 and all is still well, in spite of the vomit that took who knows how long to clean up by somebody that wasn't properly protected.

I'm not sure where the closest FEMA camps are to Dallas, but I'm willing to bet that they're increasing their staff as we speak - just in case!
