My machine is doing the whole generating thing with 0.3.21 at about 4500 khash/s. Where does that put me on the spectrum of mining rigs? Good, bad, indifferent? Check out https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Mining_hardware_comparison for a good list of what does what. I looked into it a week ago and found the ATI 5850 to be the best value for me. Power consumption is relatively very low, and if you look hard, you can purchase good ones under $160 shipped. CPU mining will generally award you a block every few years depending on your CPU. In a few years however, that block could be worth a few million. Title: Re: mining speed? The 5880 looks good to me as well now that I know what I am looking for. Maybe a dual 6990 setup :-). It looks like NONE of the inVidia cards are suitable for mining. So much for the quad SLI idea. That said, my 8800 is supposed to produce 16000khash/s. I guess that means I should be using a different application. Any suggestions? At this point, that is strictly to figure out the best configuration before buying something better. @gigabytecoin: There's more money in a better setup plus the lottery precisely because of the idea that the amount of fiat will vastly exceed BTC. ) wish I'd done this two years ago. Hopefully, there's still room for a miner. Need to buy a new machine anyway. |
