Title: Tips on Mining Hardware
Post by: atomicswan27 on May 14, 2012, 04:37:22 AM
I need some tips on hardware to choose.
First, what is the best mobo. I need something not to expensive that can support 4-5 gpu's.
Secondly, what is the best gpu for a price around $100; strictly ATI.
Any help would be great. Please give me more tips on hardware.
Thanks,

MSI GD70's are really common and can support 6 gpu's (5 x16, 1 x1)

In terms of gpus around 100$, there's 5850's and 5830's. You gotta buy these used because they are not in production anymore.Would suggest browsing the forums or checking out eBay.

For 4-5 gpu's you need a minimum of 1000w-1200w, even more with the setup I am mentioning.

RAM and CPU don't really matter, just draining your power.

Hope this helps,
Nick

If you use pci-e extenders/risers, I recommend you Gigabyte's GA-H61MA-D2V and D3V. The are dirt cheap, use very little electricity and are fully compatible with all kinds of linux mining distributions (specially BAMT). With a low end 1155 cpu (Intel G620) and some RAM you will not spend much more than 100$/€.

You can buy a normal mobo and use the PCIe x1 slots, that won't affect your perfomance on mining.
And check the Ati 5850 with over 800mhz clock or Ati 5870
